The policy isn't new, it existed for years. It now is stronger enforced however. I am surprised that the Brake Glow Mod managed to stay under radar from this for this long tbh

This will now affect many mods, as it has already affected the T-Series Expansion Pack, which will require you to access the site itself to download updates.

Why is it being enforced just now? Did something controversial happen? A lot of mods i liked were about making all cars, even stock, have extra features added.

Devs have been working on tools to better moderate mods and to allow modders to debug their mods better. I assume this combined with the existence of mods that overwrite lots of stuff lead to stricter enforcement of it

We posted a bit about it here, but the TLDR is: we are humans and sometimes make mistakes, having allowed a non-compliant mod reach the repo. At some point we realized it, or we are made aware of the mistakes, and we try to rectify them when our workload allows.

So for example, if we are notified of a non-compliant mod, we do our best to fix the situation: if possible, by teaching and guiding modders on how to rework the mods (since we'd prefer them to stay in the repo). Or by moving the mod out of the repo and into the mod forum (where the rules don't need to be so harsh). Or even by removing the mod (when we have no other choice).

About the existence of rules: their goal is not to make your and our own lifes more difficult, but the opposite, to improve the overall experience for everyone here in the community. For example, some rules make mods much less likely to break the game after updates. This is both a big inconvenience to tons of players, and a constant timesink for us, devs. Other rules reduce the chances that our company gets into legal trouble. For example, we'd rather remove 1 potentially problematic mod, than risk being forced to take down the entire repo. Etc etc.

We know this is not friction-free, and on top of that we do make unintentional mistakes here and there, but we're always trying to improve, so please bear with us :). Thanks everyone for the feedback on these matters, really, they are all valuable and we (silently) take it all into consideration.

Regardless of how popular or unpopular or accepted that decision might have been...... I cant stress enough how much im thankful that you linked the post to the thread where the issue was specifically talked about and described, instead of other events in other sites where they just say "due to a certain/specific/well known event..." and leave any newcomer in the dark about the specifics. Im now much more well informed in why you made the decision you took.

I think i have allowed it for a mod which had a „Paid beta“ tag on the Beam Forum discord but I don’t think I allowed it for a 20€ paid „high quality“ mod

The mods folder, like every other mod. There is a tutorial linked behind the „how to install mods“ banner on the repository page

So if you update a file in the OP post it doesn't show up as edited?
