I have not worked on it in a long time, and have been intereseted in other projects for BeamNG and other games lately. I do plan to do a large update on the BTR at some point but I really dont know when or if it will be soon or not. I've been lucky that it still works mostly fine in the new versions of Beam, but I do still want to get it updated and add featutres etc. I just have to find the time and inspiration, and finish my other project first as well.

Dude, take your time, we should all be waiting here for the update, especially since this mod is...very much loved, and one of the only tanks released on the forums. Thanks for the update, and your welcome for the support...

Unless you want to try to go into the code and make the clutch stronger, I don't think there's much that can be done. This was released a pretty long time ago and isn't set up for the latest drivetrain system

This is a known problem, since this mod was made long before the new drivetrain as opkraut said.
Will fix this and many other problems with the next update but I don't know when that will be.

I made some stupid mod for the BTR-80 a long time ago, but I am now much better at modding.
I'd like to help you with updating the mod for version 0.12. I think I have enough experience to make the engine and drivetrain, and maybe other things as well.

Tip:
---If you are having difficulties climbing steep hills, it may be helpful to switch the transmission to manual mode with "Q" and then keep it in first gear while climbing the hill.

Huge update v2.0 for the BTR-80, now fully functional in BeamNG 0.7+
All parts have been edited and revised starting from the base and working up through all of the components.

Important changes:

Jbeam updates with new tweaked beam settings for strength, deform, etc.

New more realistic diesel engine. Better low end torque (especially in 1st gear) for climbing. New transmission, is now 5 speed like the real BTR. Still has extra power and speed for more fun

Added working exhaust!

New high quality custom engine sounds

Fixed suspension to prevent wheels flipping inside out frequently. Suspension much more durable now. Suspension components can now snap in hard crashes. Tweaked suspension behavior.

Added suspension sounds

Tires stronger, should be a little more resistant to blowing

Completely new lua scripting for moving parts based on the modern BeamNG lua files

-Rotate turret with F and H, raise and lower gun with T and G. Open/close window covers with O

Water flotation fixed.

-Hold E key for water thrusters, steer with regular steering

Skin system implemented for the different colors. Added one new skin.

Updated materials file, added new custom made normal map textures

Many other minor improvements/changes and fixes for the new version of BeamNG

Instructions for installation:

1) Download .zip file from bottom of this post, do not unzip

2) Place file in Documents\BeamNG.drive\mods\vehicles

3) remove any old versions of the BTR80

4) Start BeamNG.drive, off-road, crush cars, and enjoy

Notes:

-While it is quite capable off-road, this thing is not a rock crawler and only has so much front ground clearance

-This is an armored vehicle, it is not meant to be crashed itself, but to crush other vehicles or go off-road

-It floats correctly in most water, however is does not float in the stream in East Coast, and may not float on other maps if the water density is not set the same (problem with the maps, not the BTR)

-As with any BeamNG vehicle, parts of other vehicles may get stuck in it or its tires causing binding. This is just how BeamNG is...

Hi everyone, this is my fist conversion to BeamNG. Jbeam made completely from scratch by hand in notepad! (the node and beam editor wouldn't cooperate). My first time making a Jbeam. Original 3d model author unknown - downloaded the model for GTA years ago. Model edited slightly by me for the conversion (retextured lights, double-sided some things, etc.). Entire project done in less than 5 days!

Features:
-Mainly made for ramming, climbing over, and crushing things!
-also very good off-road (8x8)
-fully custom jbeam
-tuned to be extremely strong and solid (it's an armored vehicle) although you can dent it in extreme crashes
-excellent collision (other vehicles usually don't get stuck in it)
-drives fairly realistically (though tuned to my taste for fun driving)
-has custom sounds
-close to realistic weight - a little over 30,000 pounds
-scaled to correct size
-fully working lights
-movable parts:

-"F" and "H" rotate the turret
-"T" and "G" raise and lower the gun
-tap "E" to lower window covers
-"Y" resets all to original position
-it floats!
-press and hold "E" for water propulsion and maneuver with the regular steering
-the antenna moves around (based on AR162b's antenna design on the moonhawk mods)
-it's not too bad on fps - I can drive it with another vehicle decently on my 8 year old computer with a 2.93GHz Intel duel core processor and 2GB of ram

Issues:
-not the most efficient use of beams (probably more than necessary)
-very fast crashes with the wheels into hard objects can crash and glitch the physics
-some extreme crashes can flip some of the wheels inside the vehicle

Each version is in its own file and can be downloaded and spawned independently. The different colors can be spawned side by side without the textures clashing.
