Hi, I am not sure if this is the correct place to post this, but I am wondering how to package a set of vehicle trims together that I made in Automation. I was reading through the wiki, and it doesn't seem to show how to make various configs of your own mod, only how to make them for pre-existing vehicles, but I am not sure if it applies to vehicles built in Automation. This is my first attempt at trying anything remotely related to modding/messing with files, so help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Each export from Automation is a complete vehicle, they can't share parts currently. To put multiple automation vehicles into one zip, please take a look at this thread: https://www.beamng.com/threads/automation-car-pack-packed-correctly.56358/
Please rephrase your question, I am not sure that I understand it. It sounds like you may be unsure about the structure presented by the menu though. The structure is [Vehicles -> Configs] where configs are *.pc files describing different configurations of parts and settings. Take a look at official content to better understand this. Steam\SteamApps\common\BeamNG.drive\content\vehicles Once you make an initial vehicle selection from the vehicles menu the only thing you'll get after that is configs.
I looked through the official vehicles before, and noticed the configurations and how they work. What I am meaning is to have the different vehicles in the pack be able to be selected in a way that is similar to the configuration menu. --- Post updated --- For reasons of less clutter/space saving in the vehicle selector.
you could take a couple models from automation and smash em together and make a normal car mod out of it.
For reasons of less clutter/space saving in the vehicle Unfortunately I am not good at modding to make my creations into full mods. If I had the time, the attention span, and motivation, then I might try that.
You won't achieve much in this arena without time, attention, and motivation. This is not a shallow pool, so you've got to decide whether you're willing to wade in deep! As far as what you asked about above: no, it can't be done. The config selector is ONLY for configs. Vehicles go in the vehicle selector, configs in the config selector. Maybe a feature suggestion would be in order? https://www.beamng.com/forums/ideas-and-suggestions.4/ I think there's some value in a feature like that for folks like you (you're not the first to ask about it after all!). On the other hand grouping multiple vehicles (which can't trade parts) into what are essentially directories will end up confusing players who install your mod. It will either run counter to their expectations based on existing official & mod vehicles... or it will setup negative expectations. Basically they'll assume that they can use the parts selector but won't be able to. It's probably worth starting the discussion (in the ideas and suggestions forum, not here). If you choose to make a thread over there please 'mention' FluffyOreoCX and I in order to bring our attention to the thread. You can do that by saying something like @torsion.
Sounds good. I guess I should have suggested that you mention all stakeholders. There are plenty of people who'll probably have something to say on the topic... I'm sure you can find other people who've discussed Automation parts, making vehicle packs, combining vehicles, etc over in the Development Screens thread as well as the Content Creation subforum: https://www.beamng.com/threads/deve...contains-a-picture-or-contributing-post.1575/ https://www.beamng.com/forums/content-creation.29/
There is tutorial about making configs, here is tutorials index you can find it from there: https://www.beamng.com/threads/tutorials-index-list-of-useful-guides.51454/
