I guess there could be a map where it is possible to jump from planet to planet like in super mario galaxy, however it would need some weird physics, saying that, how do planets work when placed near each other?

Way cool. Watching the vid gets trippier the longer I watch. I can't help but to imagine realtime deforming starships straining against
stellar mass black holes. This could also make for interesting terrestrial map making. Thanks for sharing!

    So I gotta know,
What happens when you put a drag-spec car on the planet? Or perhaps one of the hillclimbers?

This reminds me of a video that I remember seeing of a patch someone made way back in the day for RoR. In that video he had a bit bigger of a planet, and that meant that, hilariously, he could actually get going fast enough to reach orbital velocity and have the vehicle just lift off the surface and start to orbit the mini planet. You guys should give that a try... at the very least it would make a cool video.

If the game could survive that. But more likely it will detect instability.

Technically same as on current gridmap, it is a planet after all, so gravity just pulls car towards center of planet (yes, this explanation is very simplified of how gravity really works).

Having small radius sphere to drive on, is like if you would drive top of pipe object on gridmap, or top of those crazy curvy roads.

Up and down are not what you see being up or down on video frame, so it is just a small radius surface you are driving on, there is no uphill or downhill on those planets you see on video, for a car it is flat ground, more or less.

Super massive asteroid flyby, destructible buildings, all sort of possibilities, like that one Donald Duck story where they got ripped to other planet as it did come too close by, just think about what crazy possibilities for scenarios such is opening, jumps where gravity is not only towards ground etc :p

I think DuneWulff meant whether the cars would go into orbit.

Anything goes to orbit if it can reach terminal velocity I guess.

Also if two planets are static and close to each other, I would guess that nothing happens, if you place vehicle there, then direction and strength of gravity affecting vehicle would be average of gravities, probably it would not get teared apart by two gravities, but tbh I have no idea, just a guess.

So if the gravity is high enough....if you spawn a car in the middle of the planet will it crunch up into a ball?

A pancake rather, not a ball

No, it will float ridiculously at center of the planet, move it closer to surface of the planet though and you might get some crumpling :p

Note how they mentioned gravity being zero at center of the planet.

I faintly remember the same thing too.

It depends on the radius of the planet, or from a different view, the density of the planet. If the radius is big enough (density normal/low), gravity in the center will be close to 0. If the radius is small (a few cm, so density is huge), then it'll essentially act like a black whole and crunch the car causing a physics instability.

Yes, because the Earth is flat. Proof is here folks.

So, I have to ask most important question, did you test to make gravity gun yet? Tube, several high gravity objects which are activated in sequence :)

Node accelerator in theme of particle accelerator, which leads to BeamNG.Collider :p

Oh the world of destruction that turning gravities on and off will allow to us :D

I haven't tried this new feature myself yet, but I did build a sort of cheap prototype using wind to fake 3d gravity a couple of years ago (search 'Occam's Bargain Bin'). Drag cars always tended to just go nose up, and would catch their tires on the surface every now and then, but not much else. In orbit, but only ever just over the surface. To truly leave a planet's surface, you either need thrust, or a ramp.

Since my method used wind, hillclimb cars were always shattered on spawn, but I'd imagine you'd be able to drive exceeding escape velocity using one. More to hold you on to the planet even at higher speeds.

    Are roses included? ;)

Anyway, could you get into orbit by going fast and jumping a ramp? Would be a cool demonstration of this mechanic...
