We're always looking for ways to update and improve the existing vehicles, and as the game engine becomes more optimized (and us artists become more experienced!) we're able to improve the look of old assets. The veterans here may recall that the Gavril V8 has already been remodeled once, but for an engine used in so many of our vehicles it's important that it be maintained to the highest standard. Here's a quick preview of the overhauled Gavril V8 meshes that will be included in the next update:
    v8_render1.jpg exploded.jpg
The first step is a high-poly model. This isn't quite as daunting as it sounds though, because polygon flow and density don't really matter here. The high-poly components can be "exploded" and then baked onto a set of low-poly components suitable for in-game assets.

These components are unwrapped and the normal map textures baked before running them through Substance Painter for subtle dirt and weathering effects.
    unwrap.jpg supercharged.jpg
These low-poly components can then be reassembled into an engine configuration, such as the supercharged engine above. The pulleys are separated into props that are rotated based on the engine rpm.
    police.jpg diesel.jpg
Also included are a set of components for turbo diesel v8 configs in the future, although we're still working on physics and audio to support this. In the mean time, we can enjoy vastly improved engine visuals for the Grand Marshal, D-series, H-series and Roamer.

Nice! This game and it’s crew never ceases to surprise me by the measures they take to make this stuff look nice and realistic.

The new engine looks nice. And the fact that diesels are now being added officially to the Gavrils, is going to, I think, help make the D-Series in particular a whole lot better. How do you have an American pickup without diesel configurations?

My questions are, when to expect it? Since tdev made that announcement about the following update. And I wonder if this will apply to the Bluebuck when its time to shine finally arrives?

I doubt so, since that would probably contain an older Gavril V8 engine.

Awesome work. Does this mean that some other engines (*cough bolide *cough) are planned for the future?

Well, if they go that route, it would be possible to make it a predecessor to this engine.

We'll know for sure later on.

Well, since that is supposed to be an Beamverse Impala, I have no doubt this will get an V8 engine predecessor.

We might get a Inline 6 engine, but the V8 is very likely to happen.

Wow it actually looks like a 4.6L mod-motor now. I love the way it looks in the Grand Marshal!

    looking spicy
We needed a diesel in a consumer car, and now were are getting them!
    One question-
Will there be the options for turbos on normal petrol V8's?

Hey, I would like to know more technical details of the modern Gavril V8. Production years? Max family displacement? Valvetrain type? Official name? Anything else? I love the content, but don't neglect the lore!

Also, super psyched for diesels. I already have plans for a D45 config that'll have the T75 shaking in its boots!

if you're asking about this engine, it's just a re-mesh of the current in-game 4.5 and 5.5 engines. looks to be pushrod.

I'm seeing one map just for the engine, if game engine improvements are allowing more maps to be used, without bringing CPU to it's knees, in a future, that is also cool.

I must say your turbo setup looks bit odd.

Doing it like this would be more OEM look, you can see wastegate in that shot too:
    upload_2018-10-20_7-11-53.png
    upload_2018-10-20_7-14-34.png

That is of course OEM, aftermarket is always different, but usually exhaust has flange, not just pipe coming to it and L/R combining usually is made to Y-shape, then square flange thing that connects to turbo:
    upload_2018-10-20_7-18-30.png

    upload_2018-10-20_7-33-22.png

So to look bit less odd, I would think something relatively small would improve it a lot, joining pipes like Y and putting a flange there, that exhaust manifold is mostly what holds thing in place, it does not hang from pipes then:
    upload_2018-10-20_7-39-2.png

Also, always mind the oil lines, feed and return, return needs straight to oil pan route without steep turns and especially no going up, always down :p

This is really phenomenal work! This is such a vital vehicle component to Beaming as we know it ... I couldn't think of a part more deserving of such a through revamp.

Are we open to the possibility of celebrating by introducing some official engine swaps? I can only imagine what a Barstow or Burnside might be capable of with a crate motor... and the 200BX had been considered a candidate for the Gavril V8 swap a long time ago...

But I digress. Really, the thing I'm most excited about is the planning of the diesel V8. Will there be any visual differences between the gasoline engine block and the diesel block?

    I love it!
    What about other engines?
I think current gavril v8 modeling is not so bad.
But Bruckell, civetta, gavril i6 engines are very, very low-poly modelings.
Is there any chance of new models for them?

Way I did read first message was that they are working on all the content, here was shown Gavril V8 as an example and it is first getting updates as it is used in so many configs.

It would make sense that they will bring all old content to level of new content so that game looks refined, but all can't be done at once, so i6 will have to wait it's turn for a while.

Ibishu i4 is used on few cars and is not the most high definition model either, so I guess that might be before Gavril i6, but probably they work on all of their content to achieve refined content throughout the game.

Problem with this approach is that they risk going around in circles. By the time they are done improving old stuff, stuff that looks new and current now will probably need work instead.
