I think it's an accomplishment that those two can even read the title with 1.5 braincell.

And then they can even write posts!

Is this entire discussion really because of my lack of punctuation?..

No one uses Derby Arena’s because it’s just a random collection of stuff. I did not say the map should be placed in ECUSA.

Months ago I suggested that ECUSA gets an abandoned race track. It would be nice to make use of some of the large empty spaces and make sense considering how many small drag strips and dirt/tarmac oval tracks have been adandoned in some real East Coast towns.

Here is an interesting short article about a movie made about our auto racing situation:

That actually would be pretty cool, but what engine would it use? Like would it use the 378 Cu In 6.2L from the Moonhawk, 292 4.8L, 354 Cu In 5.8L, 421 6.9L from the Barstow, 275 Cu In 4.5L from the Grand Marshal, or the 336 Cu In 5.5L from the D-Series/Roamer?

Plus LS Swaps, it's more of a modern custom thing.

I use derby arena all the time, between the demo-derby mod and for vehicle testing (the different terrain types) i quite like it, except I hate that theres no cut-through so u can drive freely in/out of the grassy and muddy pit...I understand its to keep the derby contained, so not really a complaint, more of an annoyance (if only we had a front loader and moveable concrete barriers....hmmmm)

It's a collection of various derby arenas to run derbies in. People do find it useful for demo derbies. What's next, dissing The Grid for being just a massive empty space?
There's no need to shove as much into one map as possible. "Large empty spaces" are actually very realistic and great-looking wilderness areas I would be sad to see go, and a small dedicated racetrack map will always have better FPS.

I’m not saying shove something into every space; the fact is that ECUSA is an early map and the devs have got much better and layouts and things could be improved. The map shows its age in pretty much every way. Using space well isn’t the same as “shoving as much as possible into the map”. I’m not even saying add a functional full race track, I would be happy with just an abandoned ticket booth. It would certainly add character to those wilderness areas instead of having it be two layers thick of trees.

And when was the last time you’ve seen derby arenas used in a community content anything? Gridmap has useful stuff and has been updated repeatedly, derby arena’s just is a limited map that the majority of users don’t touch.

There's 686 pages of content here, so direct me if this has already been mentioned, but I'm kinda scared for Italy....I mean West Coast USA is 4X4 Square Meters - and I cannot run it without having lag issues, so weather Italy will be the same, I'm not sure....

On a seperate note, I saw a screenshot with a puddle and mud....could we possibly get water physics?!

Just because community screenshots isn't flooded with pics of it doesn't mean it's never used. By your logic, the most popular and loved mods are clickbait meshslaps.
And why do you speak on the behalf of a "majority" so boldly?

By what metric is it a popular map? I’ve seen it used in a YouTube video once or twice. In what world does it hold up to the current standards? How can anyone say that a map like that has a place in the game next to any of the recent maps? I really don’t see how anyone can argue that it’s a good map with a place in the game. It’s a remnant of a different era of the game. It had its place years ago but needs a lot of attention. Even industrial area has gotten more attention lately.

Also, by definition of popular, if the mods most shown in a community thread is a meshslap, it’s at least a contender for most popular.

I reckon that Derby Arenas will likely be used in Career Mode, likely for some demo derby missions/events. IMO, it should stay separate, because it is compact and streamlined, thus allowing for a higher number of vehicles in a derby compared to if, let's say the arena was on a higher intensity map.

A low recourse intensity map would definitely be useful for career mode, but I don’t think it needs to be as barren as it currently is. I personally would be happiest with a full on replacement how DRI-JRI was handled, but I’ll accept just bringing the current map up to a higher standard like some maps were teased in today’s devblog post.

Oh, so if your favorite youtuber featured it only twice, it's not popular? Type "beamng demolition derby" into yt search bar and you'll see dozens, if not hundreds, of videos with that map.
This map perfectly fits all requirements for a derby map. It has plenty of various derby arenas and nice FPS due to small size. It also features some warehouses that are suitable as a setting for a repair shop/garage/junkyard for photo shoots, roleplay or just messing around.
What else do you want it to have?

I'm very glad the map improvements are finally happening. I have been supporting and fighting for them since early 2017, and now it looks like that will be a reality. I'm not sure which maps are up for a rework though, obviously Port, Derby Arenas, Small Island USA, Industrial Site, East Coast USA, and Hirochi Raceway. Might JRI be in the bin too?

I would be surprised if JRI gets anything other than minor changes. There isn’t really much spare room to change stuff and it’s noticably better quality than the original maps. Plus if I was a dev the last thing I would want to do is re-do a map that already got fully reworked a couple years ago.
    --- Post updated ---
Yeah, and DRI perfectly fit the requirements for what it was meant to do. And Port, ECUSA, Small Island, Indistrial area, and the original grid map that got removed. Does it work? Yes. Is it up to par? no.

Gridmap got a major rework awhile back even though it worked fine. Big enough that the original was put on the repository as a mod. Small island as well. DRI got completely replaced. Port/Industrial area got split up. Most, of not all of the maps are getting reworked to at least some extend according to today’s dev blog. They all worked fine in their original state. Yet a lot of us have been asking for map reworks to bring them up to par and it seems the devs agree. What’s with the hate to the fact that Derby Arena is showing its age and is a remnant from another era? If you like the map so much then shouldn’t you be excited by the idea of it getting brought to the current standards?

could use some proper infrastructure like ticket booths and a parking lot and maybe an actual garage and sponsor signs, could be cool to have a fake junkyard too

I think Derby arena could use a massive face lift. Make it feel more like a real location rather then a game-play zone. Also a better figure 8 race track too.

I actually agree with Fera on this part. A collection of tracks/arenas will be useful for career mode and there’s just no way of making a sensible full map out of that; there also isn’t a need with WCUSA, Hirochi Raceway, and Automation test track.

I just wish it felt like the collection of tracks had a purpose, whereas now it feels like a 5 year old random collection of tracks and assets tossed together. Which is honestly what it is right now.

I'm ecstatic that my least-favorite corner is getting redone. Hopefully the frustration of sinking to the axles (even in areas that appear to be dry dirt) will be eased.

Colour me impressed by the new textures at the Derby Arenas. I'm hoping that developers take note of repeated community requests for a larger figure-8 track on the map. I think I came up with a pretty good location for one.

The Port is looking nothing short of amazing in these photos. There is one thing I'd like to beg @DoullPepper for though:

    screenshot_2018-11-28_13-56-00.png screenshot_2018-11-28_15-06-48.png screenshot_2018-11-28_15-17-10.png

The map predates the introduction of the T-series, let alone trailers, so it's surprisingly impossible to actually get a truck onto the dock itself, under the cranes designed to offload them. There's always either too tight of a turn to make, or overhead clearance issues.

    screenshot_2018-11-28_15-23-21.png

The removal or replacement of this one specific instance of this building; sandwiched between two others not far from one of the outermost ramps; would provide a clean shot to get cargo right to the dock. As it is, not only does the walkway prevent large traffic from coming through, but the structure is also clipping into other buildings.

I wouldn't be surprised if Derby Arenas went through the same process that DRI went through to become JRI. It fells like the official map that is too empty to be an official map and a bit of new content as said before to fix it. It's probably going to happen sometime before the full release or it might get removed all together.
