After finding out that the Cherrier Picnic was a paid mod, I would like to know are there any other paid vehicle mods that one would consider as good out of curiosity.

there aren't many, LucasBE also previously made a set of roofrack props,
and Aljowen's Raven R20 has some extra configs which are paid.

i'm not aware of any other good ones, most paid mods consist of a D-series meshslap being sold for something like $30 per month.

    Man.
What if you get a job, and the company doesn't pay you? You're working for free. Spending precious time of you're life and putting effort, without getting paid..
Exactly the same feeling some modders get when they make mods for free.

And when they do make some mods paid, into which they put a lot of time, passion, and effort, they deserve to get paid.
And, well, if you want that mod, which they put a ton of effort into, you're gonna have to pay for it. It isn't free. (Most of the time)

You're not entitled to anything, the world isn't free.
Don't want to buy the mod? Ok move on, find another mod.

Paid mods often means high quality, and some of us are actually willing to pay for that.

it is no different to buying a car pack for forza but in this case you get an hand crafted, highly detailed destructible model that you can do whatever you want with and will get updates to improve the car

It's people like you who ruin the community, it seems that you are just trying to start a drama about paid mods at every possible opportunity, or that you constantly feel the need to spread your opinion about paid mods despite the fact that everyone else is against you and you know it. What are you trying to gain from this? Best case scenario you will just annoy everyone, and worst you will get banned.

Paid mods is just one of the list of things horrifically wrong with the BeamNG modding community

To everyone saying stuff like 'get a job' or 'its their choice' its also mine and other peoples choice to either disagree or agree with that practice. As it is the choice of any mod creator to make their mod paid, but once they decide that their mod is worthy of being behind a Patreon paywall, it better exceed the developer quality mods, crap like the raven, that looks like something a bored kid carved out of soap using a Bowie knife should under no circumstance be behind a paywall. Mesh slaps from Forza should never be hind a paywall, and modders who abandon mods because of reasons such as 'outdated quality' and 'lack of passion' should certainly NEVER put mods behind a paywall, because the second it is behind a paywall, it is not your passion project or your weekend hobby, it is your business, and the people playing the game are your customers, and you must serve them what they paid for.

And as for those saying 'get a job, its not that hard to pay for it' if your subbing to only 3 of these 5 dollar a month Patreon mods that are everywhere, your paying 15 dollars a month, or 180 dollars anually for mods created by individuals. The game itself costs what? a one time payment of under 30 dollars? you advocate spending 6 ties as much as you spent paying for the game over the course of the year to get vehicles made by freelancers because its their right? Go for it, but you better hope they also have 6 times the effort and time and resources as the BeamNG developers, because there is no way any one of you could possibly continue to justify these paid mods if one of them, which you could have sunk 60 dollars annually into, goes belly up because the modder 'lost passion for it'.

I'm all for supporting modders, donating to a modder because you like their mod is the best idea i have ever seen on these forums, everyone can enjoy it, and the modder can make revenue on the side from their mod. Modders who publish free mods can always just walk away easily, hands clean and no one gets hurt, yeah maybe a little community disappointment, but no one lost any money at the end of the day. No Patreon modder can say the same, they are obligated to continue to give their mod constant updates and bug fixes, and will be held to a level equal to or higher than developer content, and rightfully so.

No modder should be scrutinized for every little detail wrong with their mod, its just cruel to pick apart someones hobby, something they spent hours on to give to the community and asking nothing for in return. But paid mods are not this, the second a paywall is installed you might as well consider it a DLC for BeamNG, and as such should be maintained to the same standard and be open to just as much criticism as official content invites. And the developer should be fully open to all of these nitpick suggestions, something i see very little of in these paid mods, which brings up the disgusting reality that far too many are simply people exploiting mesh slaps for money.

All in all, paid mods are fine, no one is killed by paid mods, but they must be held to standards equal to or greater than any official content, and those are a pair of shoes pretty big, especially if your comparing one persons work to an entire game development team.

For fair context, i have never tried to make a mod, I don't understand the issues that are modder specific nor am i going to pretend that i do, i also can't pretend to know all the issues on the other side of the screen for modders, such as financial insecurity where this may be one of their only ways to make cash, which is why we cannot automatically write all paid mods off of the table. However, paid mods must be held much higher than any free mod because of this paywall, which is a bond of trust to the community, once the paywall goes up, you cant ever truly walk away, you will always have people telling you how much they paid for this mod, and no matter how little time or passion you have left for it, they will demand that it is continually working, and it is your responsibility to do just that.

i paid for the Cherrier Picnic because i liked the quality of the ETK K series and i felt that Lucas deserved a small donation as this mod is really high quality.

however, i don't think that Lucas should have to support the mod permanently. the lifespan of mods seems to usually be no more than a few updates. there are a few that survive longer but mostly, something will break after a while. i would expect the picnic to be supported for at least a year, but not forever.

i guess it all depends on whether its a one time payment or a continued patreon, i honestly dont look into most paid mods once i see they are paid so i couldnt tell you the specifics of the picnic other than that it looks pretty cool
    --- Post updated ---
and i will say LucasBE mods are high quality, they know their stuff for sure, definitely worthy of donations for their work

Modders aren't forced to mod. Humans spend lots of time doing things that they aren't paid for. Like practicing an instrument. Getting a job is next to necessary now. I know, it's fine to want money after devoting so much time and effort into something. But in a broader spectrum, it will deteriorate the community and encourage more modders to charge for mods. A lot of people playing BeamNG still rely on their parents for financial needs and wants, and most parents wouldn't take out 5 dollars for a mod and most kids wouldn't want to work for it. I think there should be a donation button for people who want to donate, but the mod should still be free.

see, by the looks of it, around 5 months it took to develop this mod. if lucas took say an hour per day to create the Picnic, that equates to around 150 hours of work. honestly, if i was to give an hourly rate for 3d modeling, considering the minimum salary is £18k and the max is £46k im going to assume around £20 per hour so realistically, in terms of time, this mod is worth about £3000 (roughly)

even if it does become a subscriber based thing, until it goes way past the 3k mark, i think that lucas is more than entitled to claim back his time and effort.

the quality of the mod is impeccable though. i have not found any issues yet,

That I believe is only the 3D modelling and texturing part, there is also Jbeam which is hard to judge how much it's worth because it's a rare skill, but possibly a similar amount too

I know I'm going to sound really entitled when I say this, but modding is not a job. Like I said, there should be a donation button for people who want to donate. Which by what I've seen, is a lot of people

i agree, it looks incredibly high quality, and LBE is more than entitiled for some money for it

its just that, with a subscription based mod, i would expect it to be updated continually, i actually ended up checking out the picnic as an example and from what i gathered its a one time payment of 3.8 euro, which ill admit is much more reasonable than most other paid mods, especially considering what your getting

im mainly going against mods like the raven, that are continual patreon payment mods with questionable quality and even more questionable longevity

i agree, however, if someone creates something and wishes to be paid for their efforts, there is nothing wrong with that

While I do think that it’s ok for modders to want some money for the time and effort put into mods, I still believe that paid mods becoming more common will lead eventually to the downfall of the community, not because modders getting paid is bad, but because of the amount of drama that seems to Come in tow with any paid mod on the forums. From what I’ve seen the community seems pretty divided on this, but many of us naturally expect anything posted on the forum to be free, since most mods on here are free.

I agree with you, I feel that if any modder expects payment for a mod, it should be at least dev quality, if not exceeding dev quality, (at least lucas’ cherrier Picnic fits this bill) and should be updated as long as we are still paying for it. As for moders being open to suggestions, the way I see it is once we are paying them, they should be willing to accept suggestions and make changes or additions, because once we pay, we are now essentially customers, and I’m sure you’ve heard the saying “the customer is always right”.

I am in partial disagreement with your on this one, because as I said in my reply to car8john, as long as we are paying for a mod, I would expect it to continue being updated. If the mod becomes free when the creator is no longer updates it, that’s fine, but if they decide one day “I don’t wanna work on this anymore” but still expect us to keep up monthly payments to keep the mod, then they are in the wrong. One could argue that they’re technically still within their rights to stop when they want, however it is dishonest and deceitful to continue expecting payments when you are no longer updating the mod.

I think expecting dev quality from every paid mod is way too much, it always takes months of work and a lot of talent to make something like that and there are very few people in the community who can achieve this, I would say my standard would be a properly made mod, without any lazy shortcuts taken like meshslapping or badly reusing all textures from another car or bad Jbeam with lots of errors, the model and textures wouldn't have to be crazy good because not everyone has that much talent
