    I've got a fix going out at the moment. Just getting it uploaded because it is loads bigger (pbr textures are bigger, and I sort of bodged it a bit). It isn't perfect though.

    Will replace with Simitar's if this is better. Either way, it will be fixed relatively soon.

    Hmm, could be the update. I haven't loaded up since the new update as I have been busy.

    I'll take a look some time. It is likely to be a little while though I'm afraid.

    Hi, I'm new here and using Beamng.
    I downloaded Somerset uk map and loved it!
    As I'm from UK I'd love more maps like this and may create my own at some point.

    I setup my own Garage to Garage delivery on Somerset and it works really well.
    I wanted to see if there's a mini map available?
    I have the map in the bottom left corner but the roads aren't showing inside the mini map....is there any way I can enable this?
    Thanks,
    Leighton

    Hi, glad you like the map. Have you released the garage to garage mission as a mod on the repository? Would be good to play it.

    For the map, there is something funny where it wasn't working, I can't remember the details, but if you use the other map available through the ui apps (can't recall the name), it works. Or at least it did some time ago...

    Thanks for getting back to me.
    I don't have a clue on how to put it on the repository.
    I haven't named each destination but I'm sure it's easy to edit the names.

    Thanks, I'll try with the map again and see if I can get it working.

    I have a question that has bothered me for quite a long time: how did you manage to make the AI traffic drive on the left side of the road? I wanted to do some strange things to the East Coast USA map and I just couldn't change the way AI traffic drives.

    Hi. The way I did it was to make single lane AI road decals all the way around the map (one on each side, facing the way I wanted the traffic to go).

    Almost straight after I released it though they released an update that allows you to specify which side of the road you drive on.

    You have to add the following to the info.JSON file:

    "roadRules":
    {
    "rightHandDrive": true

    This sets the cars to drive on the left (it always gets confusing with Left Side Driving and Right Hand Drive both meaning the cars drive on the left, but that code is from the automation map info file, so should work).

    Thank you very much! I've looked up everything I googled and still had no idea how this is accomplished.

    Yeah, Beam's documentation is really lacking.

    No worries. It is hard work sometimes with BeamNG, but then the fact that it is a little rough around the edges is a lot of its charm. Good luck with it.

    Oh crumbs, give me a minute... what is broken?

    I doubt I'll get to it quickly. Depends on the extent of the damage.

    I've had a look. In truth, it might be fatal...

    I used the Alpha Blend Mode: LerpAlpha to make the road decals show nicely on top of each other (see Material Editor options below).

    upload_2023-9-21_11-35-4.png

    I did this because it worked. Not for any other reason. I have zero idea what these do (except assuming that the alpha has something to do with the transparency in certain situations).

    The update has changed this (probably fixed something that needed fixing). This means the roads don't show up well anymore.

    I do not have the time to fix this myself, so I am completely in the hands of anyone else who understands this issue, or has the time to fix it. If you are out there and you do the fix, I'm happy to re-upload with complete credit to you, or you can re-upload a new version of the map yourselves (full permission from me).

    Without the lerp alpha, I have found too many issues with the decals when they overlap. It appears to ignore the z-stacking priority setting in the Decal properties window (this is an issue I have found in other maps too).

    If there is a simple fix, then this would be great, and of course if the issue is a bug from the update, it may get fixed with future updates.

    But for now, I'm afraid Somerset roads are purple/greenish and sparkly...

    Changing the roads' diffuseColor alpha values:2 to 1 seems to fix them. This replacement file goes to somerset/art/Routes, give it a try to see if the roads look like how they used to.

    Nice! Would never have thought to try that. I will try and update the map ASAP.

    Cheers.
