Hi! I think everyone knows that paid mods exist for BeamNG, and I think this is a pretty big problem. I'm not talking about the mod creators themselves, or the mod itself, but about the rules for paid mods. The rules are practically nonexistent regarding paid mods, which causes a lot of problems not only with modders but also within the community. I propose adding separate rules (or expanding the existing ones) for paid mods to avoid future conflicts. Please note, as I said, I am NOT saying that paid mods should be cancelled, I am saying that there are some issues that I believe need to be fixed.
Yeah it smetimes scares me off of modding. I am planning my first mod rn (not paid, dw) Dont understand me wrong. Modders should be allowed to take what they tink they deserve (respect, love or even money). It would be kool if the entire BeamNG community was flawless. There are alot of things which have to be cleared up...but I think it could happen soon As you maybe noticed, the situation isn't the best right now (and I mean litreally now in this moment). I hope it ends soon
This is an idea I can certainly get behind. There should really be an agreed set of standards for paid mods. I've thought about this kind of thing before, and perhaps an independent panel should be formed. It could be a mix of members of the dev team, official forum moderators, and highly reputable mod creators. A team that could work closely together to set forth a proper set of standard for paid mods, maybe even working to handle matters of mods/creators who legit work only to scam people/spread viruses through mods. I know that, even with such a team, it'd be hard to deal with things like this occurring on third-party sites like ModLand, but it could at least make the official forums a safer place for both legit mod creators and potential customers of said creators. I've said it on this forum time and time again, that there's definitely a place for paid mods, as we've seen with many popular paid mods from the likes of LJ74, LucasBE, OverPower, Finn and Theo Wilkinson, Traxisek, CrashHard, etc. Mod creators who already have very high standards for their own creations, and would likely be some of the best people to consult with on issues like this, IMHO.
A really good rule is for people to stop selling paid real world cars on the Forums. I think the best example of someone doing this is Phaien. He currently put up a thread of a paid Audi A7 mod (which you can’t make it paid because you need to have a license and permission from the brand itself to make it paid if I’m correct?). To make matters worse, this isn’t the first time Phaien has done this. He did this before with this time selling a Mercedes AMG mod for like 8-10 bucks (which is obviously overpriced). Overall, I think selling paid real world cars shouldn’t be allowed whatsoever.
this DFDesign individual is crazy greedy, asking 12$ to BUY SKINS!!! thats like 1-3 the price of beamng, not for a vehicle, BUT FOR A SKIN!!! thats ignoring, vehicles are sold separately. big ouf. and thats not even the worst part, im pretty sure selling RCMP skins, is also illegal, as he does not own RCMP nor gotten permission from them to make money off of the RCMP names. paid mods are a scammers wet dream, anyone can open a patreon and sell you scam stolen assets. and the worst part? people are gullible enough to buy this crap.
It’s interesting to see how the people who are usually either opposed to paid mods or trying to impose “rules” and “standards” on paid mods are typically also the ones who have never made anything worth mentioning. I will not allow others to dictate how I create, distribute, or price my art.
Imposing a set of rules is pretty stupid because they can't be enforced, but I do think it is ridiculous to sell something like a skin, a singular part, or a edited version of an ingame map for a sum of money that is more than that of a full car mod.
I thought paid wheels were ridiculous. Then came paid tyres. But this???? PAID SKIN FOR ANOTHER PAID CAR?????
Okay I'm sorry what? A paid skin? This is ridiculous. I'd rather spend that money on something else rather than this.
Makes sense! You're right, adding rules is pretty pointless; I was a bit hasty in jumping to conclusions, if you can call it that. But yeah, selling skins is pretty weird.
Thankfully you -or anyone else- are not in a position to dictate on what price creators put on their art.
you say that as if it negates the fact we can have an opinion on what is worth the value for the asking price. some people have whats called common sense and wont pay 10$ for a skin.
Hate to break it to you, but I am a modder! https://www.beamng.com/threads/burnside-emperor-v1-1-gta-albany-emperor.107708/
Fortunately most of us here live in a country where everyone, regardless of intelligence or age are allowed to voice their opinions. Besides that, my main point of complaint is people here actively lobbying for having other people dictate the prices of people's art. I personally don't feel like paying $10 for a skin, but if the artist who made it thinks it's worth that much, I think he should be able to sell it for whatever price he deems fair. I dont see how you stealing assets from another game makes you to eligible to dictate prices artists put on their art.
i can sell you a polished turd for 90000$ because i deem this art is worth the asking price. if you dont like my overpriced polished turd you are trying to dictate however an artist can price his art. this is the mentality here. just because some numnut will pay 1 million for a banana taped to a wall doesnt mean people with common sense will start paying 1 million for a banana taped to a wall. you can value your art as much as you like, but if you try and sell 10$ skins people with common sense will call out the poor value.
