And physics cannot be paused or it won’t work. Is there somewhere to change settings on this?

Physics can be paused with J.

Right, my concern though is that ctrl+click to grab and move vehicles does not work while physics is paused

A way to change being able to drag the vehicle while game is paused? That's impossible, because if the game is paused...you sort of can't move anything. Hence, pausing physics...physics get turned off.

Yeah it doesn't work when paused, I was a little bummed out about it but I got used to it.

Hi, there. Welcome to the forums :)

Most of the advice the community has given you thus far is pretty on-point. The only thing I might add is that we require all forum users to be over the age of 13, so if your kids are under that age, you may want to hold on to that password for a few years.

The mods listed above are pretty good ones, though I might also add Stoat's Messerschmitt 262, Dummiesman's Antonov AN-12B and Avro Arrow to add a few aircraft into the mix, though you might need CarlosAir's Grooved Range or another map with a large runway if you want to use some of them well. For terrains, I'd recommend anything by @Ouerbacker, @B25Mitch, @bob.blunderton (may be performance costly in some cases), @Crash Hard 01, and @DoullPepper.

In regards to the nodegrabber, the code for that feature is bound to the physics simulation, so nodegrabbing won't trigger without the simulation running. What you can do is use slow motion (ALT + arrow keys) to make it easier to grab vehicles in motion.

Depending on why you want to move vehicles, it's often easier to simply drive them into place or to use the world editor. About the only time it's easier to move a vehicle through nodegrabbing are:
    • setting an overturned vehicle back upright
    • moving an inoperable vehicle short distances (e.g. re-aligning stripped-down vehicles to run over with monster trucks)
To engage the world editor, follow these directions:

    1. Pause physics by pressing the "J" key
    2. Enter free camera mode by pressing the "Shift+C" combination - This is crucial. Failing to do this means the camera moves along with the vehicle, making any sort of movement other than completely random very difficult.
    3. Enter the World Editor by pressing "F11". Note that some computers have F11 set up to perform some sort of function outside of the game by default. If you find your computer doing funny things, try using "Fn+F11".
    4. upload_2018-12-15_20-49-20.png You'll find your vehicles under "MissionGroup", with little icons that resemble the BeamNG logo. Select them and use the transformation tools (Move and Rotate only, Scale does not affect vehicles) on the far left of the screen to manipulate the vehicle as desired.
And that's about it for moving vehicles. The World Editor is useful for many other things beside that, but I'll let someone more knowledgeable about it than myself describe that.

And as for quick, fun things to do, try launching a vehicle off the end of this particular structure. Just line up a car as shown, and floor it going straight ahead.

If you want to move your vehicles a long distance the teleport key is also useful, just go into freecam, go to where you want to go and press F7 and it'll teleport the car to your camera. It may teleport you slightly into the air, so you might fall and damage various parts of your car (usually the windshield). Just reset (should be Insert key by default I think) the location of your car once you're on the ground and then you'll be fine. :D

Thanks for the recommendations. Yeah I’m getting a head start on it (not only because I wanted beamng also) but so I can answer any questions my kids have. They won’t be internet brats like I see so often in online forums.

Your kids are so lucky! The closest thing I had to BeamNG as a youngster was Test Drive and Hard Drivin’

Hard Drivin' / Race Drivin' was the BOMB. Just don't buy it on SNES. I have it, it was way better in arcade or on the Genesis/Megadrive's faster CPU.
I first played that when it was new in 5th grade (about to be 37 here in a few weeks), my mind was blown.

@Occam's Razer Thanks for the mention - glad you approve of my thousands of hours of work! It's sure a lot of work to make nice maps for this game as you know. Thanks to the new 0.15.x performance updates, I can now cruise through with reflection on in Roane County and my Los Injurus early beta and almost never ever go below 60fps. So whoever is doing whatever at the dev-team, thanks!
Performance issues are not even HALF of what they were before, I'd likely say they're only a quarter as bad as they were before, compared to leading AAA engines. They're certainly better than the UNITY engine at the moment now, if you know what you're doing (you do Occam I know that much, but many don't).

This is amazing stuff this game, and now I may finally, truly be able to build something extremely awesome.

    Well, here's something nobody mentioned...

Have fun! BeamNG forums is a great place to talk and share what you're working on or just chill. And the game itself is loaded of fun stuff to do. Just enjoy yourself man.
