The Serpent Jubilant SA GT and its iterations is a sports sedan produced by Serpent Australia between 1970-1972. Production was slated to continue past 1973, but it, as well as its successor, the (SB) GT-HP, were cut off by the Supercar Scare.
To satisfy the homologation regulations for motor racing in Australia, Serpent had to produce 200 road-legal homologated units of the race car model. These were named the "GT", and several iterations and higher trim options followed upon the introductory model from 1970. The engine used in the road cars were an export variant of the Serpent "365" V8 engine, as hinted at by the matching "365" decals on the front quarter panels. While Serpent stated the GT-HP made 300 horsepower, measurements have shown the II and III producing upwards of 370 horsepower. This is likely due to insurance guidelines.
The Jubilant SA GT-HP laid claim to being one of the fastest sedans in the world in its time - the HP being geared for top speed instead of acceleration, the GT-HP II and III were capable of over 150 miles per hour. The "HP" in GT-HP stands for "Hot Pursuit". Some have also referred to it as meaning "High Performance" to disassociate the car with illegal racing activity in the wake of the Australian supercar scare of 1972.
