This generation of the PMI Hajimeru Katei ran from 1985 to 1990 and was meant mainly for the domestic and Western-European markets as a budget family hatch, sedan or wagon. The larger engined 1.5 and 1.7 litre sedan and wagon trims were also made available in the US with automatic transmissions and rebranded as PMI Companion K-series.
The 1988 1.3Ti was not a hot hatch as such, with minimal exterior difference to the standard hatch. The car remained a five-doors and the the only noticeable differences were slightly wider wheel arches, the front bumper and the badging. However, the turbocharged fuel injected engine make the light family hatch extremely nippy and fun to drive.
