Experimental Automation Engine Swaps for Every Vehicle 2

an ongoing project

I've tested this with 4WD, and FWD, not every solution is perfect, and strange exhausts can have lots of leaks. It's the price to pay if you want an universal mod that's "quite easy" to use for beginners. If you're new to modding. I suggest keeping a backup so you can start fresh.

    INSTRUCTIONS--
Export your car with the "car name" set to the zip file name of the car you want it for, or common (doing either of these will make your car not-shareable on the repo)
    Or
Have this mod unpacked, and drag everything, except the lua folder, from your exported automation mod >into> the common directory in this mod (common makes it usable for every car. If the common folder doesn't exist, create it). (clear out mods when you're not using them)

Now that you've prepped, start BeamNG:
    1) select the beamng car you want
    2) swap their engine for the automation mounts (ignore error)
    3) if you've prepped your automation car name (or dragged files) properly, select your automation engine
    4) take out your automation exhaust (or it'll flop on the ground)
    5) if the car you've chosen is diesel, change the fuel tank

Now make a decision, A) use their transmission/running gear. B) use your transmission/running gear

    A) Take your automation transmission out (it should now drive)

    B)
    1) take their supplied transmission out (leave yours in)
    2) Change the transmission>drive type if one is available (mostly for only fwd cars)
    or
    2) transmission>drive type>driveshafts to "4WD driveshafts"
    3) put in whatever diffs you want
    4) then make sure the car doesn't already have those diffs, and replace the spindles if needed (almost always needed)

the finishing touches explain a lot more in the second half of this brief stream - https://youtube.com/live/VqliO5_Ielg?feature=share

Keep in mind that if you drag files from your mod into this one, you should keep the automation mod active in the mods manager too, or be sure to also drag the "art" folder too, but to the root directory of this mod.

If you can't find the car name of the zip you want to modify, spawn it in beamng>ctrl+w>save&load>open user configurations folder. That folder is the name you want.

If you want to support me, all I ask is that you check out my channel, and the videos related to these projects. This was the first video, and I thought I'd finish quickly... over 2 years later, and we're finally done -

This is really cool, there's unlimited possibilities with how many Automation vehicles are uploaded! You do have to create the "common" folder for this mod yourself though.

Unfortunately it's "sort of easy", not "very easy", but to make it a little easier to read, I've edited the instructions. Hopefully that helps, I do recognise that I'm not the best at instructions.

I can't seem to get the mod working. When I select the Automation engine mounts, no engine choices come up. I've tried following the instructions in the description, but it still is not working for me.

just tested it, and it works for me. You have to have the exported car have the right name, or put the files into the /vehicles/common folder (if common isn't there, make the folder, it'll be fine).

there's no common folder in the mod?.. might've missed something, still worked on specific-car scenarios with a bug where the entire car was merged with the specific-mod car (i used the unpacked method, might've been my fault.)

oh my bad, you can add the common folder yourself, if you'd like. I'll try to remember to add it the next time I look at this mod, but it's not worth the empoyee's time to validate/check the mod again, for just this.

I'm not aware of how something would merge physically though. This was designed for the standard cars only, though feel free to adapt on your own. If the problem was with a standard car, feel free to let me know in more detail via discord, and I'll add it to the list.
