    SOFIM 8140 modular diesel engine.
Shown here is naturally aspirated 2.5L 72 PS 8144 with FWD transaxle.

In Italy, in the late 1970s, a small diesel engine family has developed with modular design to reduce shortages on spare parts, maintenance and downtimes. 8140 modular engine family is engineered to be delivered with many configurations such as NA or turbocharged induction, indirect or direct injection aluminum OHC cylinder heads, a graphite-iron engine block with universal flywheel housing could fit into transverse or longitudinal gearboxes.

8140 propels midsize taxis, rentals, family sedans, vans, pickup trucks and light armored vehicles in Europe for years and makes those to record million kilometers of mileage by higher durability and fuel economy. In 1990, displacement of the 8140 engine has increased from 2.4L to 2.5L by restroking from 90 mm to 92 mm.

Pack v1.0: TIAF Chroma 2.5D Rimorchiare and FIVA Giornaliero 35.11 Turbo

In 1990, with the introduction of restroked 8144 engine, TIAF and its commercial vehicle division, FIVA (Fabbrica Industriali Veicoli Autobello) applied it for Chroma midsize sedan and Giornaliero fullsize van models starting from 1990 model year.

A Rimorchiare package Chroma is in natural habitat. It's towing over 1500kg water trailer to a vineyard near Norte.

2.5L 8144 engine was avaiable at Chroma with NA configuration (74 PS@4200 rpm/165 Nm@2200 Nm) and "Rimorchiare" tow package for 1990 model year only. It was very popular among long distance taxi drivers and rental companies and it was also featured anti-locking brakes as standard.

Despite its dimensions, Giornaliero could fit into tight streets of Italian towns.

Second generation of Giornaliero full-size van were introduced in 1990 with turbocharged variant of 8144 engine (110 PS@4200 rpm/265 Nm@2100 rpm). Giornaliero has a 3100 mm wheelbase and 3500 kg GVWR truck-type ladder frame chassis and front double A-arm suspension.

Both of two vehicles have 5 speed manual transmission and could speed up to 165 km/h.

Head-on crash tests of Giornaliero and Chroma in 64 km/h (above) and 90 km/h (below) speeds respectively. Because of body-on-frame construction of the van, an adequate crumple zone couldn't be occured on those collisions.

Pack v1.0 contains two vehicles (TIAF Chroma sedan and FIVA Giornaliero van) powered with the same diesel engine. Each vehicles have realistic engine specs and driveline ratios, interior sights, detailed exterior and interior trims.
