Update 3.2:
Been quite a while since my last update, I have been incredibly busy with wrapping up my 4th semester in College and have put my free time into other activities and other mods. Before anything, I want to thank every one of you for over 100,000 downloads. I remember thinking wishfully of that back in November when I first posted just the Stage 3+ i5 turbo and thinking "yeah right, that'll never happen." 100,000 is a number I never thought I would see, especially on the first mod I ever made, yet here we are. So thank you all, it means a lot.
As I said a while back, I am pretty satisfied with where this mod is at, so the focus will likely become maintaining and incrementally improving existing content, rather than adding more or drastically changing things, as I have pretty much done all that I wanted to do (and more), but that could change in the future.
Im incredibly happy with the progress I have made since I started modding in October, and if you want a mod that follows in the footsteps of this mod, and benefits from the knowledge and efficiency I gained making Arsenic Werks, I have created “Harzer Mountain Tuning” (HMT), an expansion on aftermarket support for the new ETK vehicles. It is a very very similar mod in terms of quality of the parts, models, and lore but its for the new ETKs. So if you like what I’ve done here, I guarantee you’ll enjoy HMT.Check it out here:
Now for the small bit of Update Contents:
The UE999 2.0L I4 engine finds itself exclusively in FWD vehicles in Cherriers lineup. You can add tires, diffs, and advanced traction control systems, but at the end of the day your power is heavily limited by the drive train layout. Arsenic Werks is first and foremost committed to performance, not necessarily to outright power and in a move that will likely be a shock to some of you, Version 2 of this package produces less power than before, and even produces less torque than the vanilla stage 3 tune.
We dialed things back for a few reasons. One, the ethos of a Stage _+ kit in our eyes is to be close in output and spirit to the vanilla Stage _ tune, with a slight bump in power and a meaningful impact on performance and drivability. Two, the power that V1 made was unrealistic. Gains of 120HP over the vanilla stage 3 is a bit absurd, especially for the application of this kit and what its meant to be. The drivetrain simply could not put down the torque the V1 kit supplied, even with boost by gear.
Version Two improves the response and temperament of this package and overall results in a vehicles that is much more controllable, predictable and pleasant to drive while still being plenty quick. It increases turbine efficiency drastically over both the V1 and the vanilla turbochargers (see above chart), allowing for a significant reduction in required boost pressure making the turbo not have to work so hard. The tradeoff in this improvement however, is a drop of -62hp and -40lbft from the previous version. Relative to the Vanilla Stage 3 package this is +56hp and down -24lbft.
Now here is the thing, that extra power wasn't getting put to use in either V1 of the Stage 3+ or the Vanilla Stage 3, as both struggled with wheel spin even on race tires. This slight reduction of torque helps to manage the torque spike that causes the tires to break loose, meaning it can better maintain grip and actually put that power down and get out of its way faster than the V1 kit would allow. The powerband is now much more usable at low speed as a result of all this, so you don't have to wait until a 4th gear 60 roll for the power to be useable. Sure, it still spins a bit but it actually goes somewhere while it does. Overall, output is now 521hp and 428lbft which are certainly not numbers to scoff at, but are a bit more conservative than before. Better does not always mean more.
If you, for any reason, disagree with this decision, I have provided an option for you specifically. Version 1 is not gone, its still in this mods files, sitting dormant. If you want it back, unpack this mod, and make your way to the “Werks Engine Stuff” folder where inside you will find a file titled "Reactivate_Instructions.txt" with detailed step by step instructions on exactly what you need to do to reactivate the old version (I have intentionally made it blatantly easy, even if you know next to nothing about coding or jbeam files. Its especially easy if you use Notepad ++ but I left more specific instructions as well for if you only have the standard Notepad text editor that comes native with windows.) Also Legacy V1 will not conflict with V2 as the internal name is different. So if if you find that the V1 kit is what suites your needs best and you want it back, do this, and maybe learn a little bit about jbeam while you do it!
Other smaller Fixes, changes, improvements:
- I5 Straight Pipe sound tweaked just a bit. sounds less nasally and piercing
- Added hood hinges that were added to the hoods in V0.28 to all carbon hoods
- Improved Inertia, friction, dynamic friction, and brake torque of UE112 I3 Stage 4 long block, making it have more similar characteristics to the 02Y I5 Stage 4 long block.
A very light update i know, especially with how long its been since the last real update but real life took priority and I got busy with HMT and a few other mods.
There are some things I want to take care of for this mod in the near future and as the semester has just wrapped up for me I should have time to do that between summer work.
In the meantime, check out the Config Pack which I recently figured out has been visible this entire time and I just had config packs filtered out of my repo list (sigh), as well as checking out my other larger mods: “Harzer Mountain Tuning” and “Vanilla + Wheel Pack”
