Beta Backyard Kart 0.17.5

A backyard-built kart

  1. Camera Fix

    nachtstiel
This update is in place to correct the camera distance issue. It is still heavily WIP as I am reworking the welded front and independent rear suspensions.

The handling of the independent rear race configs should be improved significantly, but be aware it is WIP, so it may not be perfect.

There are also two new engine sounds for the sport bike I4 and the new I3 engines as well as an improved v4 sound.

Otherwise, refer to the forum post for what is included in this update!
  2. Almost Perfected Welded Front

    nachtstiel
This update definitely expanded in scope beyond what I had intended. There was so much I discovered while working on the configurations that I figured I'd push this update back a bit.

The changes in this update make the 250cc and Predator configs feel like I am driving the rental karts at my local track. Especially in vr. The axle hop is very predictable now and the tire bounciness is only really present at speeds below 15mph or on very bumpy roads like those made of meshes.

    Due to this,...
  3. Lots of changes to welded front configs

    nachtstiel
This update focuses primarily on the standard frame configurations and more specifically, the welded front configs.

This update removes the ability to detach the front end from the frame. This was only added to be funny because the floor pipes go all the way through the front end.

    Changes:

    • Frames
      • Standard
        • Added rigidity to the floor and front subframe
        • reweighted and redistributed the weight
    • Suspension
      • Standard
        • ...
  4. Weight reduction is hard

    nachtstiel
This update isn't really that content heavy. However, I was able to spend a lot of time reworking and tuning the welded front suspension.

The vast majority of the work went into weight reduction to finally get the weight and weight distribution closer to reality as well as improve the way the welded front suspension works. The welded front race configs now weigh less than 800 lbs with the heaviest of them weighing in around 780 lbs.

Another large portion of the time was spent getting the...
  5. A couple fixes

    nachtstiel
This update was put together to address the missing beam in the front arms and because I have been constantly tweaking them, further improvements to the rear kart tires.

The tires are now stable enough to be used at over 150 mph although they do not handle quite right.
  6. The half-update

    nachtstiel
This update has a massive focus on the tires. All of the tires branded "kart" have been reworked to weigh 1/4 of the previous versions. This along with other changes to the tires means that they are significantly more realistic and also much more stable. At this point, it is still possible to fold the tires in on themselves, but it happens only during incidents that usually disable the kart anyway.

The bubble tires also got a bit of rework on them, although not nearly as in depth as the...
  7. Handling Update

    nachtstiel
This update focuses on handling. There was a ton that was changed and any custom configs WILL be broken. All of the tires have been reworked and are significantly more stable, which means that it handles very differently from before.

    Full list of changes:

    Front Suspension:
    • Welded
      • Increased spring of wheel rigidity torsion beam
      • Adjusted precompression values
        • I still have to tweak the toe angle adjustments, but the camber and caster adjustments no longer...
  8. Another whoops!

    nachtstiel
That'll teach me to leave anything untested! On that note, here is an update that includes several changes that are untested!

But seriously, the changes that are not tested for on every configuration are minor and will not cause game stability issues. At most, you might see some rideheight and wheel alignment issues, which can be adjusted with the in game tuning options. I wasn't able to test most of the configurations, but I got to the SC bypass configurations, the 1000cc welded front,...
  9. Whoops!

    nachtstiel
This update was a little bit rushed so I could get a fix to the lua bugs. However, it still has a few significant changes.

    Frames:
    • Added CMU to all frames as part of the frame rather than a separate part
    • Reinforced ref nodes and disconnected them from nodes that separate from the center frame
      • This change significantly improves the stability of the camera. Even under super bumpy conditions in both the first person and third person views
    Suspension:...
  10. One Wheel Rear Fixes and dummy tweaks

    nachtstiel
With the newest update uploaded, I figured I'd get together a changelog. This post will be updated as each change is made unless it gets buried.

    Old Parts:
    • Frames
      • Added mesh helper nodes to prevent the front of the center frame from distorting after a crash
    • Exhaust
      • Added more nodes to all exhausts to aid in proper deformation
      • Adjusted node weight to maintain previous weight
    • Aero
      • Redid break groups and strengths of front and...
