Bobab Designs: Radar + Radar Detector
A functional police radar system and radar detector package for BeamNG.drive.
Overview
Bobab Designs Radar adds a working in-car police radar system and a matching radar detector.
This is not just a visual prop. The police radar scans nearby active vehicles, checks distance and line of sight, and displays useful patrol information including target speed, patrol speed, closing speed, direction, and range. The system can also be tuned through the parts selector.
The included radar detector can be installed on supported vehicles through the GPS slot. It reacts to active BD Interceptor Radar transmitters, including AI traffic police emitters.

Police Radar Features
The BD Interceptor Radar is the active police radar unit. It can be installed on supported police vehicles and used to scan traffic ahead of or behind the patrol vehicle.

Police Radar Options
The BD Interceptor Radar includes multiple configurable part options:
- Antenna Location: Front or Front & Rear
- Radar Lock Time: Disabled, 3 seconds, 5 seconds, 10 seconds, or permanent
- Target Selection: Strong, Fast, or Close
- Display Units: MPH/feet or KPH/meters
- Doppler Tone: Enabled or disabled
- Speed Alert: Enabled or disabled
- Over-Speed Beep: Disabled, 3 seconds, or 5 seconds
- Antenna Tuning: Range, beam width, beam growth, front spread, rear spread, front range, and rear range
- Audio Tuning: Doppler tone volume
Radar Detector Features
The BD Radar Detector is a GPS-slot accessory for detecting active police radar. It can alert the driver when nearby police radar transmitters or AI traffic police emitters are active.
Display
- Current vehicle speed
- Ka-band style alert display
- Signal strength bar graph
- Directional arrows for front, rear, left, and right alerts
- Mute status
- Unit display for imperial or metric setups
Detection Behavior
- Detects active BD Interceptor Radar transmitters
- Detects AI traffic police radar emitters
- Signal strength is affected by range, antenna direction, line of sight, and obstacles
- False positives can occur when the TSR Filter is disabled
Radar Detector Options
- TSR Filter: Helps reduce traffic sensor false alerts
- Mute Toggle: Mutes or unmutes detector alert audio
- Startup Chime: Optional detector startup sound
- Display Units: Imperial or metric
- Alert Volume: Adjustable detector alert volume

The BD Interceptor Radar is currently supported on all vanilla vehicles with the existing radar model, and a few modded vehicles, that being:

The BD Radar Detector uses the GPS slot and can be used on vehicles that support GPS accessories.
Controls
Controls are available under the Bobab's Radar input category.
- Toggle XMIT: Turns the active police radar transmitter on or off
- Toggle Doppler Tone: Enables or disables radar Doppler audio
- Cycle Target Selection: Cycles between Strong, Fast, and Close target modes
- Toggle Overspeed Beep: Enables or disables the over-speed beep
- Toggle Beam Visualization: Shows or hides radar antenna debug lines
- Toggle Radar Detector Mute: Mutes or unmutes detector alert audio
How To Use
- Install the BD Interceptor Radar from a supported vehicle's interior, dash, or police radar slot.
- Choose the radar mode, units, target selection, lock time, and alert options in the parts selector.
- Turn the vehicle ignition on to power the radar screen.
- Use Toggle XMIT to enable or disable radar transmission.
- Install the BD Radar Detector from the GPS slot on another vehicle.
- Drive near an active radar transmitter or AI traffic police vehicle to receive detector alerts.
Notes
The radar detector is a fun extra feature and still needs more work before it is semi-realistic.
This mod is still a work in progress. Features, tuning, supported vehicles, and realism may change as development continues.

Thanks for the review and suggestions! False alerts and AI police traffic radar detection will now be included in the next update. For the alert tones, I unfortunately only have Uniden detectors, I will try my best to find the tones for other manufactures online. Feel free to PM me with any other suggestions.
