This will run on a very old system with a used 30$ (in 2016) Radeon 1GB 6750 - on a FIRST GENERATION 2009-era i7. Seriously.
Set on low or lowest details if you have 1GB of VRAM. You just need to make sure that your system has 6~8GB of system memory (different from VRAM) and you'll be okay, as I'm unsure if it will run with 4GB only.
That being said, I'm only using <2GB of memory while in the map editor, so even if you have 4GB of system RAM, try it out. If you get an 0xFFFFFFFF error from BeamNG and a crash to desktop, then purchase some more memory for the computer - it's usually pretty cheap especially on older machines.
THIS IS MADE TO RUN ON LOW/OLDER/ OTHERWISE MARGINAL SPEC MACHINES!
You don't know until you try! Let me know in the comments how well or if it works. As long as your processor is half-decent and you don't try to run too many AI vehicles (for your system processor, video, and system memory specifications), you will be just fine to drive around and enjoy this map.
A lady friend of mine had an HP / COMPAQ business-class machine, with an i7 950, 6gb of 1333mhz RAM, a used Radeon 6750 1gb DDR3 card, and a hard disk drive. It took a little while to load, but otherwise, on lowest it was 60fps (capped), and 30fps on LOW (while using up all the VRAM on 'low'). This was *BEFORE* I did the optimizations (and also added more size to the city and a bit more detail), so it may even run quite a bit better now, the game was also optimized afterwords, too.
With a resounding WOW she said it was quite playable/enjoyable and was shocked how well it ran.
It's a city, with the details you want and need, and little to none of what you don't need. This keeps the FPS - and hence the enjoyment - up.
      So again, TRY IT.
      --Good luck

This map is amazing, even though I haven't spent much time on it, I already like it.

Performance is actually okay, considering the fact I am playing at 4k maxed, my GTX 970 (even though it is heavily overclocked) - it still managed to get an average of 35-40fps on the highest settings. Minus reflections.

My specs for those who are curious:

    I7-2600 @3.9ghz
    8GBs DDR3 1600mhz
MSI GTX 970 Gaming 4G (Bios modded, and overclocked)
    Benq 28in EL2870U

One thing to note is the ram and VRAM usage... My VRAM was pegged at 3.8gbs and 4 throughout my time in-game which makes sense. My ram usage though was pegged at 7.8/8gbs most of the time in-game before my system went into the page file - dropping my ram usage.

Considering my PC is rather outdated, and still managed to get above 30-40fps, on this map is amazing. Those who have better hardware than mine and play on lower resolutions, will easily run this map.

    Some screenshots of my settings and in-game photos, I also included an MSI afterburner photo showing my systems resources, ram, VRAM, GPU usage, CPU usage, clock speeds, etc;

Switching to medium texture detail should make everything run much better, but you can keep the mesh quality up max, because I used lots of fps-improving tricks in making them.
Above-all, THANK YOU Sir, for taking the time to make a super-duper detailed post in your review about performance (seriously, these help LOTS and LOTS).
Your CPU is just dandy yet (surely showing it's age a bit, but you don't have to put her out to pasture yet if you don't want to), RAM is just enough, and VRAM will definitely be maxed as this uses 5.5~6.0gb or so, not including what the OS and web browser and other apps will have loaded in also (can be as much as 1.5gb especially if you have another simple game like Rimworld running in the background as I sometimes do). If on medium texture detail, you should easily be able to fit this map into the 3.5gb 'faster' section of VRAM on that card (the last 512mb of the 4gb is a bit slower than the first 3.0gb and following 512mb section, due to less links to the gpu core for the latter sections).
So again, do enjoy, and above all, thanks a million. I spent months refining the performance (about 8~12 weeks or so, on and off, mostly about 2 months worth beginning of last Winter).

so much yes....SO MUCH YES! It's finally out! You've brought us another masterpiece of a map, Bob!

    specs, for anyone who's worrying about their pc's ability since some people have issues with that;
intel i7-6700k - GTX 970 3.5GB - 16GB DDR4 and I'm able to run it at 1080p60! Some dips here and there, but...that's to be expected!

Even my crappy (very) underperforming laptop can handle it!
    i7-4710HQ - GTX 860 - 16GB DDR3

      Author's Response
Thank-you for the review and leaving performance specs / results. Can always use performance results over here, to know how well it's running. Cannot say I am surprised as a lady friend of mine with a i7 950 (xeon equivalent) with a Radeon 6750 1gb ddr3 (used 30$), 12gb ddr3 1333mhz triple channel memory can run this just fine on lowest (60fps) and low (30fps), and that was BEFORE a lot of optimization in both the game engine AND this map. So it's likely a lot better now than when I had it tested. So provided folks have 6~8gb of RAM to throw at this, the system requirements are that of the base game otherwise (and possibly less).

I do my best to learn from what is Roane County in 2017~2018 and not murder the FPS so much. The custom-designed models I made do help this issue a LOT.
Enjoy the Modular Road Kit (MRK) included with this map, it's like SimCity for BeamNG!

I spend 12+ hours some days stuck in this chair, working on this. Thanks man, appreciate the kind words. I hope you find the future versions with more features, bigger and more varied city, better textures, and much more detail packed into it even better. I am glad you are appreciative of my thousands of hours of work, and hundreds of dollars spent, to make this dream a reality. I could only wish some others were this elated.
      Thank-you highly.

    1. bob.blunderton
      Author's Response
I will be making many of the larger stores and eventually factories truck-friendly as the map production goes on. There's only maybe TWO (lowered) truck docks, but PLENTY of roads to drive on, and plenty more truck-friendly docks as I said will be put in at all the grocery stores, malls, and such. If you really want a challenge, try getting a truck of any decent size remotely close to the back of a strip mall (IF possible, some are pretty crammed, to simulate Los Angeles, which is a trucking nightmare in and of itself).
So do not fret what-so-ever, I am trying to make this truck-friendly. Do be aware that if you haul a load 40~70 pianos in a trailer, you WILL need the T-75 destroyer mod to have the power to get up some of the hills, as the stock engines of the trucks do not have anywhere near the power required.
At-least two or three dedicated COMMERCIAL FLEET fueling stations will be provided with the map when it is complete, where you can fill up and park your rig for the evening. Think something like 'Pacific Pride' or 'LOVE'S' stations like you see on the highway - and that's a promise.

It's refreshing to have something actually on this map now, the original map - Which it is based upon, was bland and huge, now we have bits and pieces dotted around the map to liven it up, I especially like the city that is featured.

However my PC is slightly lacking VRAM and good enough GPU and CPU to properly run it, so I'm sat in the low 25-40fps most of the time.

I suggest having at least a 6 core processor and (from the description) at least a GPU with 6-8GB VRAM.

My PC is slightly under that, but I do need an upgrade soon as mine is aging.

Also, one issue I have with the map is that with the BeamNG.Drive official traffic mode, the traffic likes to travel on the wrong side of the highway.
    1. bob.blunderton
      Author's Response
Some spots have bi-directional AI traffic which is unintended (for highways and four-lane or wider roads). It's mostly on the older areas of the map that I haven't gone over. I will be fixing much of that, and have already fixed some of it that I noticed in the video review. It's a symbol of a bygone era when BeamNG not only didn't have 'traffic' but didn't have the ability to make one way roads or even 'lanes'. Yes, this map was originally started way back on version 0.5.x or even 0.4.x back in the spring of 2016. That's how old the terrain and many of the rural roads are. The highways were updated around 2017 to better suit fast driving and banking many of the turns that weren't. Now the map is becoming the city I wanted it originally to be, which is why all those highways were put in way back starting in 2016. Now I am finally able to turn this into a (virtual) reality.
Entirely, a 6GB~8GB graphics board will help you alot. A 2060 or Radeon 5700/5700XT will help leaps and bounds, but they're all around 350~450$, so do consider checking the used market also.
I would aim for an 8GB card, to give you some room, as the map will require up to 8GB of VRAM when it's done for MAX texture detail.
*An RX 480/570/580/590/Vega 56/64 will be plenty, as all of these models are, or have the option to have 8GB VRAM models, so keep an eye on the used market, too. This also includes Nvidia 1070/1080/980Ti (?) models, also. I am using an RX 480 8gb model here, which is 'on it's last legs' / dying, but it still does decent FPS when it's not cranky or if I down-clock it a bit so it doesn't crash the driver.
So do enjoy, maybe in the spring I will be able to get another video card.

I will be dealing with the 'dull brown / grey' stuff later on down the line in the project, for now, try to live with it as it's a small concession in an otherwise interesting city. This is known, however.

I cannot install it it gives me an error and says something like cant install this file. Is it other conflicting mods?
    1. bob.blunderton
      Author's Response
      Reviews aren't for tech support.
Remove your other mods before running this mod if you run into an issue. This mod's file is bob_city_map_alpha_patreon_preview, so look for that zip and keep it but move others to a temporary folder somewhere outside the document\beamng.drive\mods directory (and outside the beamng.drive folder in documents altogether).
If you have so_cal_interstate, that is the only other mod that will conflict directly with this, all others would be different named.
Try downloading the file again as the download could have corrupted due to sheer size. You can try downloading it manually from here and put it into the above mentioned mods directory.
Also, make sure your C: drive isn't close to full, and empty your recycle bin if needed as you could be close to full on your c: drive.

It's a city. Look at the amount of graphics in this city. It already has much of the resources it will need to become a full-fledged map. There is nothing I can do about it unless you want textures that look like mud.
      Otherwise, do enjoy the map.

      Author's Response
First check in documents\beamng.drive\mods folder to see that you don't have the old So-Cal Interstate. That will directly conflict. Then re-download this map manually, by browsing to this page and clicking the download button, then putting it in the above-mentioned folder.
Then re-try again to run the map, it should be near the bottom of the map selector screen. The icon should look like the resource icon above.

This is really fun to drive around and I can't wait for more stuff to come! My only complaint is that the sky looks cloudy all the time but the reflection on the cars looks blue. Other than that, you did an awesome job filling the city map void in the game!
    1. bob.blunderton
      Author's Response
Yes, that is an issue with the sky. Fog was removed in the last week before public release. I will be sure to fix that. Thanks for letting me know about that oversight.
Entirely 1000% there was a city map void, we need these. This is why I not only chose to fill it with this map, I chose to offer folks a 900-piece MRK (Modular Road Kit) within the map resources to build their own city with.
Let's see if folks actually figure out how to use it, now.

I have one complaint - One, singular complaint.

The drive-thru at Burger World is way too narrow, and if it were a realistic drivethru, it would be separated by some form of barrier or awning.

Other than that, map's amazing. It's a city environment, but with the same usual winding roads that are to be expected from a Blunderton map.

If I could give a half-rating, I definitely would, because as it stands, this is easily a 4.5/5 map.
    1. bob.blunderton
      Author's Response
There's one Burger World in the map, that's across the lake from the rest of them, there's not much but one or two tall buildings and a bunch of little stores near a sunken subway entrance. That has what you seek already. There's four (if I remember correctly) Burger World locations in the map, so do find them all. It's near one of the highway dead-ends where it's not finished being built yet.

That means the world coming from you, thank-you highly for your review. I love your Olds Full-size mod, so many thanks for that also. Plenty of jumps here to take the junk-yard car off of, and watch all the doors fall off when you land - always one of my favorite past-times when not busy hauling pianos around torturing them to death.
In mapping, it's all about the details, and I have so many details to add yet, so stay tuned. I'm not stopping until this thing looks fairly close to an AA or AAA game. It might not beat GTAV's design but that doesn't stop me from trying, at the very least.
