Irish License Plates Pack V1.6

License plates from the Republic of Ireland

  1. HeyI'mAmethyst
This mod requires the European License Plate Compilation by JorgePinto to be installed to function correctly: https://www.beamng.com/resources/european-license-plates-compilation-cherrier-rhd.6952/

This mod adds license plates from the Republic of Ireland straight into your BeamNG license plates selection. The plates featured in this mod are standard issue ones in the 1987-Present format (including 1987-1991, 1991-2012, and 2013-Present), as well as trade, temporary, and vintage style plates.
Future updates are planned, which will add more styles of plates.

    Some features I've included are:
    • Fully generate-able plates, featuring every single possible format from both before and after 2013, as well as era-appropriate county codes
    • Where applicable, all plates feature the name of the county of registration in Irish at the top of the plate
    • You can choose from every single county in Ireland - anywhere from Cork in the south, to Donegal in the north*
    • Both default EU and US sizes can be used for all plates
    • Custom fontplate
    * To save on the amount of entries in the selection menu, this pack only contains green trade plates for Cork, Dublin, Galway and Limerick - a separate “add-on” pack will be released to include all the other counties if you wouldn’t mind the extra entries. All counties are included with the standard white plates

The plates will appear in the selection menu as
    Irish Licence Plate ([County]) (1991-Present)
    Irish Licence Plate (1987-1991)
    Irish Temporary Licence Plate
    Irish Trade Licence Plate ([County])
    Irish Vintage Licence Plate
Irish Vintage Licence Plate (White & Red)
    *

    * This will need the "Rear Yellow EU License Plate" (from the European License Plate Compilation mod) enabling in the rear license plate vehicle config for the correct colours to appear

In case you’re not already familiar with the format of Irish plates and if you’d like to learn how to format one correctly, inside the spoilers below are a brief overview for each era:

License plates starting from 2013 are in the format YYY-CC-NNNNNN. YYY is the last 2 digits of the year, as well as a “1” or “2” suffixed depending on which half of the year the car was registered (eg, 212 for July-December 2021), CC is the 1-2 character county of registration code (eg, WX for Wexford) and NNNNNN is a 1-6 digit sequence number. Hyphens separate each part of the plate.
    Example: 212-WX-24675
Motorbike and US size plates drop the hyphen in between the county code and the sequence number.

License plates from before 2013 are in the format YY-CC-NNNNNN. YY is the last 2 digits of the year (eg, 05 for 2005), CC is the 1-2 character county of registration code (eg, D for Dublin) and NNNNNN is a 1-6 digit sequence number. Hyphens separate each part of the plate.
    Example: 05-D-53874
Motorbike and US size plates drop the hyphen in between the county code and the sequence number.

The last year this format was used was in 2012, it was replaced with the current format to combat the seasonality of car sales

License plates from 1987 to 1991 are in the format YY CC NNNNNN. YY is the last 2 digits of the year (eg, 87 for 1987), CC is the 1-2 character county of registration code (eg, OY for Offaly) and NNNNNN is a 1-6 digit sequence number. Unlike the other formats, there are no hyphens on this style of plate.
    Example: 87 OY 13606

These plates stopped being issued in 1991, partly due to the implementation of the European Standard Guidelines, and partly to add the county of registration in Irish at the top of the plate.
Replacement plates today are only issued in the 1991-2012 format

Trade plates are in the format NNNN-CC-YY. NNNN is a 3-4 digit sequence number, CC is the 1-2 character county of registration code (eg, D for Dublin) and YY is the last 2 digits of the current year (eg, 22 for 2022)
Hyphens separate each part of the plate.
    Example: 164-D-22

These plates are issued to dealerships to allow use of vehicles without being registered on the road, these are used for reasons such as transferring cars between sites, and customer test drives

Temporary plates are in the format ZZ NNNNN. The letter combination “ZZ“ indicates that this is a temporary plate, and NNNNN is a 5 digit sequence number.
    Example: ZZ 31306

These plates are issued to people who do not reside in Ireland, who have bought a vehicle and are going to be exporting it to their home country. These plates have a 1 month expiry, as seen in the red T sticker on the plate. This sticker has the current year in white repeated, as well as a black number corresponding to the month of registry on top

There are many different ways to format these plates, depending on where and when the car was registered. Typically, they're arranged with 2-3 letters, and 1-4 numbers on either side of the plate. These plates originally were only black on both front and back, however in 1969, the option of white front and red rear plates was introduced. For a full comprehensive list of possible combinations, see here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_registration_plates_of_the_Republic_of_Ireland#Series_per_county_1903–1986

Irish diplomatic plates are essentially the same as the regular civilian plates, they follow the same format, just with the letters “CD” added. I’ve built this feature into the fontplate, so all you need to do is choose any county plate of your choice, and add in an asterisk * where you want the symbol to appear in the plate generator. There doesn’t seem to be much information about these from what I could find when searching for usage guidelines, but from what I’ve seen on some photos online is that usually, it’s either placed in between the county code and the last set of numbers (YYY-CCCDNNNNN), or at the end (YYY-CC-NNNNNCD).

    Please note:
    • The formatting on some of the US size plates isn't ideal - I've had to make a compromise in some of the generating layouts to make sure larger layouts have enough space to appear, so some smaller ones might not have as much of a "tidy" appearance. You may need to add in a space or two on some layouts to separate the different parts of the plate correctly. I’m looking into ways I could remedy this without having to make separate plates for each layout

Hi, thanks for the review! This is possible to do - I've got an idea on how to implement this, through making another rear plate entry in the vehicle config. I'll certainly look into how I could do this. It's a shame BeamNG won't allow you to have 2 license plate textures by default :(
