KERS and MGU-K System - BETA
Adds hybrid energy recovery and deployment to any car. Fits the nitrous slot, so it works on all Vanilla and Automation vehicles. At least from my testing anyway. As long as the engine supports a NOS module, it 'Should' work.
Its basic though. Theres no physical modelling but weight is added by just adding weight to nodes. Nothing fancy. Im no good with 3D modelling sorry!
Two systems to pick from:
Energy is recovered under braking and from spare engine capacity, then deployed as extra power. Power is added at the gearbox rather than the engine, so it doesn’t over-torque the engine or slip the clutch. This was a massive issue on the early iterations as I was applying torque to the Crank, applying to the gearbox is MUCH better!
- KERS > hold a button for extra power. Manual, F1-style from the 2010-2013 ERA. OR You can treat it like rechargeable NOS from some other racing games since it slots into the NOS slot.
- MGU-K > automatic assist that deploys and recovers on its own. Like the modern F1 or Hybrid SuperCar systems.
This mod includes:
Setup:
- Power modules from 50 hp up to 1000 hp
- Thirteen battery packs, 400 kJ to 54 MJ, with what I believe is realistic weights. Each battery has a High Charge (HC) variant that can take more charge, but has added weight.
- Three MGU-K modes (ECO, Performance, Race), Each mode can be adjusted in the tuning menu and provides different tuning options.
- Four deployment modes including an Auto mode that manages charge for you (definitely recommended, makes management easy). Other modes include Harvest (0% Deployment), Balanced (50%) and Race (100%)
- A UI app showing charge, power flow and current mode. The UI is not 100% needed as the system reuses the vanilla NOS UI, but its basic and this extra UI provides much more info!
- Optional turbo assist modules (experimental — support varies by engine)
- The MGU-K systems also support a "Boost Override" mode where it can provide a boost of output above the normal deployment. Kind of like an overtake mode. Same button mapping as KERs here.
Most of the default settings work out of the box, but especially with the Race module, theres a lot to play with.
- Drop the zip in your mods folder
- Parts selector > Engine > Nitrous Oxide System > pick KERS or MGU-K
- Bind KERS Deploy under Options > Controls > Vehicle
- Add the KERS and MGU-K System app to your UI
- Add the part listed under the NOS engine part
At its current state, its just a Beta and its also fairly simple and there may be some weird issues. Setting the Engine Harvesting too high can actually make the car slow down very hard under braking, so its not perfect. But any feedback is always welcome!
