Great map, but could you please add PBR materials and also change the fog color to light blue or something, and can you make the drawing distance ~10km too, please? Also, the AI traffic drives either in the middle of the lane or on the side of the highway, this needs to be fixed, too :)

For a decently big map, it's loading speed is decently fast. Its fps friendly and pretty good. Good to see that this mod still works.

This looks 100% like Nevada, the desert, the vegetation, and the mountains just make this too realistic and accurate, all you'd need is graphics that make it look more like real life and less like a game and it'd easily look like a real picture of Nevada. And this map isn't just plain either, there's an interstate, some roads, and buildings, and best of all, you can even drive through the mountains. One thing that could be added is some gas stations, houses, and restaurants to make it have more of modern look (the buildings are fine but don't really feel that modern) unless I missed those in the map, and the AI traffic for this map could be improved (some AI don't know how to properly exit and enter the interstate, and some crash through the sides of the walls for the highway), but other than that, it definitely tops my top 10 favorite beamng maps.

The best ever map mod! Runs well even on my sh*t old PC. Also, wanna ask, does the traffic go the right way on this map?

Traffic should work properly on this map currently.
If it DOES NOT function properly or as you wish, please let me know with some screenshots of the area (more is better), showing the issues if any.
If you enjoy this, you will enjoy Los Injurus and Roane County also provided you have enough system RAM (8gb minimum for single vehicle or 1-on-1 chases, 16gb for several AI vehicles). Results and minimum requirements may vary on a case-by-case basis.
ALL my maps should have well-functioning AI, as a general rule.
All maps have discussion threads, so if any issues should arise, please use those, as that's what they're for.

You dedicate yourself to beam and the community and I'm very grateful that you do this. Your maps are always masterpieces. Not only are they very big, they are also very detailed and just fun to drive around on. Thank you!

It's like one of those German road races, except I just painted it up to look like a highway. I really enjoyed making this one (and re-making most of it).
Ouerbacker made the terrain originally and it had one little S-shaped road running through it for about 5 miles or so. That was it, aside of some dirt paths. I was toying with the editor one day to make a buckled-slab type jump when we had the big heat wave in 2015 or so... and it just clicked.
So I dropped a highway in on it, and showed him some concept shots (as it was his 'black hills' map originally), and he said I was golden to release it.
So I did... and people liked it, especially being the game in 2016 was mostly devoid of highway maps for anything except 'Matrix Freeway' (which still works btw). If I only knew what can of worms I opened when I started showing screenshots of this map on the forum.
People were rightfully initially skeptical, but there were a number of folks that kept egging me on to keep going. So I did just that, why not?
Turns out combining a highway with a race track is really fun (well, in a video game / simulation it is).
It goes without saying it's a labor of love, and I'm pretty sure it shows.
This map was made when I had a Radeon HD 7850 2GB card, so it SHOULD run on pretty much anything semi-recent today. I won't be updating this one much, as that would raise the system requirements and alienate a lot of the demographic that enjoys this spartan but still immersive map. I do pledge to fix it if it breaks again, though.
I am glad this map brought you (and many others) some good times in what might be a dark hour for mankind - no, wait a minute - it's just a tunnel - we'll survive.
This too, shall pass. Until then, I wish you great health and good times in BeamNG and anything else you do.
--Cheers and Thank-you!

Looking at the size of the mod, I thought, "Oh my. This is not going to be pretty." But then I went into the map and it was like magic! I can't believe a map of this size actually runs well on my comp---I mean potato. Nice job!

A good bit of optimization went into this - but also true for the game engine. I'd say a year ago it ran a bit worse, but now it is much better. So yes, the spud isn't out for the count yet. She lives to die another day.
Thank-you for the review, enjoy the open highway, that was one of this game's first realistic highways all the way back in 2016.
--Cheers!

Yes I get you 100%. I love this mod. Still have a trouble ticket in with the developers about it. I have tried deleting tons of assets and can't figure out what's stopping this from loading. Also, another person can load it below, he may have fewer mods than you or I, but I am looking into what's causing the instability with the game. When I find out what's causing it, I will post the fix OR a how-to & send you a message. I want to play it too (I love this map), so you're not the only one!
Rest assured, it's being looked into (but I can't do much until the dev's get back on it or there's some type of game update). In the mean-time, try deleting the cache folder for this map which is:
"documents\beamng.drive\cache_15.x.x.x\levels\hiway2"
Remove only this folder.
Move your mods (Except if you wish to add back a vehicle or something that you want to drive in it), to a safe place like a folder on the desktop or something similar, and try loading it then. It may or may not load for you.
Will make effort to see if adding old model cache from old game version will help fix this. I have an old game version here (13.x) that it fires right up in - but this map DOES have OLD assets dating back 3+ years, so who knows.
Will keep you informed. If you get any luck getting it running, let me know in discussion forum for this map or message me directly.

I will look into this more over the coming week. Thanks for letting me know, and enjoy the map.
This was my first map, an almost-complete overhaul of the road network, adding many times more roads, done with permission from the original author of Black Hills. It was too few roads in the original map, to not have more chance to view the scenery, or cruise on a highway to seemingly nowhere in the desert.
