Experimental Night Lighting Fix 1.0

Makes 0.39 nights readable again by ramping exposure with the time of day

  1. E0.
Since 0.39, nights are almost unreadable outside the headlight cones. The EV Compensation slider in Options > Graphics does fix it, but it is a single global value: set it dark enough to see at night, and daytime is blown out.

This mod drives the same exposure bias per frame instead of once. Your daytime image stays exactly as you configured it, the scene brightens as the sun goes down, and it returns to normal at sunrise. The transition is smoothstepped, so there is no visible step at dusk or dawn.

    FEATURES
    - Settings panel in the pause menu: ESC > Mods > Night Exposure
    - Live readout of in-game time, night blend amount, and the exposure value currently applied
    - Presets (Subtle / Balanced / Strong / Very strong) plus a free slider
    - Keeps your own EV Compensation value during the day, or lets you override it
    - Adjustable dusk and dawn timing, shown as in-game clock times
    - Settings are saved and restored between sessions

    INSTALLATION
Subscribe, or drop the zip into your mods folder. No further setup: the settings panel appears under ESC > Mods once a level is loaded.

    NOTES
    - Freeroam and career are both supported. No vehicle or level files are touched.
    - The mod never writes to the game's own graphics settings. Your EV Compensation value is handed back when the mod is disabled or unloaded.
    - If another mod also drives exposure compensation, the two will fight over the same value. Disable one of them.
    - Console access, if you prefer it: extensions.nightExposureFix.getConfig(), .setConfig{evNight = -2}, .resetConfig()

    Feedback and bug reports welcome.

Great concept and idea, but it makes permanent changes to the game (toggling on/off doesn't work). A few other things need fixing too. Please could you enable the Discussion tab on the mod so that a thread is created where I can provide more detailed feedback. Thanks
