All I can say is, WOW! I live in the Tri-Cities, Tennessee. I go through that area at least once a year going to western Tennessee. Interstate 40 Looks extremely authentic!

- 5/5,
I reviewed this map before but until now I just relized how massive it is. I spawned away from the city and was trying to get back but I couldn't. So I got into a plane and I was blown away with the size of it! Originaly I thought it was a city and an airport but there's another city. Exelent job! I'm surprised my computer hasn't died from the size and detail of it. (sorry for typos)
-
Author's Response
No worries about the typos my friend - you tried and that's all that matters. YES, you *CAN* and most likely will get lost; unless you're from the area, but maybe even then too. There's a map at the top of the resource post for this map. This was originally just a 'large, open-world test for beamng' but after sprucing it up some for myself, I decided to release it, and it's surely been a hit (not to sound like a braggart). I am not regretting releasing it one bit, for those that have the system are able to keep quite busy on it's 163+ miles of roads and trails, stretched over 144 square miles of terrain. That's bigger than GTAV. In the future the airport will be more than just a few lights and some tarmac & paint, as I finish detailing this map. Thanks for the review!

Found myself running into the edge of the world a lot, but overall, great map. love the tremendous detail. The jumps are also cool too.
-
Author's Response
Yes, all good things must come to an end, even this map's world space. However, in between the edges is plenty to keep you busy, I would hope. There's also plenty of jumps strewn about in Harriman downtown area, if you possibly got bored of driving on the 163 miles + of roadways. Thanks for the review. In the future, there will be more to the towns etc, as I get the detail fleshed out.

Impressive, I live in the next county over from Roane County. I would've never thought someone would use my area for inspiration in a map. Good work!

Author's Response
Thank-you, enjoy the map & good to see ya'all are local.
I live about 20 minutes west of the edge of this map via route 40, or somewhat close to that. It's very odd whenever I must go to Knoxville because I must 'Drive through my map' to do it :)
There's just something fun about driving down here in Tennessee that wasn't the same up in PA, though to it's credit there were some fun roads up there. There's much more miles of roadway down here that just begs to be stuffed into this game and truly enjoyed without killing one's self, because of how many roads don't have guide-rails here.
It's ok, I don't mind the lack of guide rails, because it keeps the taxes cheap, and thins the 'herd' a bit. Don't forget to visit Gatlinburg in the real world before the warm weather is gone, it's still quite lively and there's plenty of green stuff coming back. Thanks again for writing in, and good to hear from a local. --Cheers!

- 5/5,
Amazing map.. how do you make the terrain this big, with such great detail? Great work.
-
Author's Response
Thanks for reviewing this map. This was originally a 'large map / open world game-engine test' for Beamng.drive to see what happens when you put a MONSTROUS map into the game and attempt to drive it. Well, over time of testing, I got to enjoy driving through it, so I kept putting a little more time and such into this map over months of last spring/summer in 2016. To my shock, it ran beautifully, loading hitches aside (they're mostly all gone now, with 0.7~0.9 updates). So I decided to release this map just as 0.7 update came out last fall, due to much demand for it. Surely, the terrain isn't the best at simulating ditches or potholes at the resolution it's at, but if you just want to cruise, there's nothing quite like having all this map at your fingertips. This last version from February shows a concept area (Downtown Harriman) and the amount of detail the finished product will have, along with Kingston about half-done, and Rockwood which is just beginning to have it's road network and buildings put in place. With models kindly donated by a few other folks (@Occam's Razer and @RedRoosterFarm to name a few), I was able to flesh out some of the residential areas pretty nicely. Work is slow but I am currently trying to get masterful at BLENDER so I can make more custom houses and such for everyone to crash into (or role-play using). Eventually, I'll have a new version of the map out. All in due time. For now, enjoy the expansive rural drives of Tennessee and also it's highway US40, the occasional bits of civilization and the plentiful jumps scattered about (especially in Harriman). Again, thanks for writing in.

Awesome Map! Runs very smooth even when using an slow GT940M (except after the map has loaded in then it takes 1 minute to be playable). The Title wasn't wrong about that 8gb thing, I have 8 but it still crashes sometimes do to running out of it (even when only using one car though there too I have very slow memory) Would like to give 6stars!
-
Author's Response
It *should* work with 8gb no issue, no crashes, generally uses about 5.1~6.5gb as it's run, a little more or less depending on video settings and system configuration. Glad you enjoyed it and it runs smooth, and I thank you kindly for the performance feedback (it lets me know where I can improve, or if it's overburdening everyone, etc). In the future there will be more detail and very possibly some more custom models here, so do check back in the future / coming months.
Rewinding your car can be a memory hog, even with 16gb of ram and multiple cars, just to note. Never-the-less, thanks, and don't forget to have a good time on the jumps in Harriman.

- 4/5,
Great map, however, after spawning about 4 cars, BeamNG had a popup appear saying "The game has exceeded memory allocations" and then closed. So... 10/10 would crash BeamNG again
-
Author's Response
Thanks, and yes, this will use a LOT of memory very quickly, even with 16gb of RAM, Beamng.drive will OMNOMNOMNOM it's way through it with only 6~8 AI vehicles, especially when rewinding a vehicle. There's no way around that. Just free-cam and F7 to move the vehicle vs rewinding it then you should not have any crash-outs or at-least have less of them.

This is the most detailed map I've ever come across. It runs surprisingly well on a laptop with integrated graphics, which aren't terrible but they're still not outstanding or anything, and a dual core (with hyperthreading) notebook CPU. Everything about it screams attention to detail and quality. I can tell you spent a really long time on this map, as it's so detailed and just absolutely perfect in most areas. I don't know how you could add anymore content to this, as it's already superb. Really, excellent work on this!
-
Author's Response
Well thank you highly sir. I try my best to cram as much as possible in the map without slowing it down to a crawl in too many spots. There's a few areas that need quite a bit of fleshing out, and in time, they will get it. I am busy modeling things for making my own custom models, for a city map, but some will be back-ported to this map, and will help make it run better, and not worse - all while adding more detail and uniqueness to the map.
Expect more detail in the future in the more barren parts of the map, or areas where roads look like they should be, but aren't. Also, in the coming months that remain of summer, keep an eye out for the up-and-coming TAIL OF THE DRAGON map (it's solely a road-race inspired map, not a whole county like this), and a city-themed map "The Leading-Brand City".
Thanks for the performance feedback in the review, it helps me know if folks are able to run this and have a good time, or if things are a mess/slideshow etc. In the end, it helps me make a better/more fun/feature-packed map, and everyone can have a better more enjoyable experience throughout. "Because playing Beamng.drive in 2017 shouldn't mean driving in what feels like a Shoe-box Panorama"

I downloaded it and tried the map. Took a really long time to load but it was a great time playing in the map. It worked really well with my 512MB ATI AMD Radeon R6 Graphics somehow.

Author's Response
Rock on brother, thanks for the review, and glad you're having a good time. I tried my best to keep this accessible for everyone, from Powerful PC's to Potato PC's as not everyone can wants to spend as much on a PC (to run a driving simulator) as they could on a used but perfectly serviceable 10 year old automobile. Low graphics for those with 1gb or less of VRAM (video card memory) should leave folks with a playable experience.
Thanks for writing in.

Author's Response
Your spud has a good cpu then, with good Integer-per-core performance and floating-point-performance, and enough RAM to get by. I don't think it's as potato as you make it, otherwise it wouldn't run this map. Don't sell yourself short there.
For anyone having troubles running this, it's high-draw-call nature tends to really tax things at times, keep reflections OFF unless you have a 970 nvidia card or Rx 470 or better. Turn off shadows for folks with a slower cpu that is just good enough for the physics.
I am trying to promise folks new versions of this map that will only run better and better, however, while the towns may slow down a bit (where they aren't finished), the rest of the map should be fine. As I get models done for my city map, some will appear here in this map, if they're applicable (with LOD's, collision, etc).

WOW, This is the Biggest map in BeamNG I've ever seen! It actually feels like you're driving in american country-side. Also, great to explore!
-
Author's Response
This IS the biggest earth-based map in Beamng.drive. Sure, Nadeox1's SSRB is possibly longer, though it has no terrain, it's just a bridge, and there's a space map out there that's even more huge, but this IS the largest earthen map for Beamng.drive right now. I am glad you enjoy this, as it's modeled very closely to the real ROANE COUNTY (and a slice of Cumberland County on the west side) here in eastern-mid-Tennessee.
Roads are where they're supposed to be, and towns also, which one are done anyways. Most every road is in, about 90% of them, so do enjoy, there's over 163 miles of road to keep you busy.

- 5/5,
Love this map. Even after hours you still discover new areas.. A bit more detail would be nice, looking forward to an update! :)
Runs pretty smooth on Ryzen 5 1600 16GB Ram and RX 470 4GB-
Author's Response
Enjoy the new Ryzen, it should serve well. Keep a watch for bios updates on it with new AGESA code for RAM speed increase, it's on the way if your motherboard vendor doesn't have it online already.
Thanks for the review and glad it works well on your PC. More detail will be added in time. It can take several days just to do a few square blocks. Downtown Harriman took over a month straight and that was after the main street was done and roads mostly laid out.
Again, more detail will come in due time. PC's are catching up to this map's processing weight nicely, and game asset streaming is much improved in Beam 0.9.x so yes, more detail is on the way. It's not done, and it won't be done for a little while though.

Bus stop model is in, it's infront of Burger World in Kingston. I haven't put more of them yet, will be in during final detail pass/phase of things.
Thanks for reviewing / writing in & glad you enjoyed all the effort that went into this monster of a map.

- 5/5,
I love this map. I don't really have that much to say about it to improve on. Maybe more floods on the side of roads and a rainy version of the map?
-
Author's Response
There will be a few more roads near the water level, but it may take some time to discover these roads, as they're not the major thoroughfares, just rural country lanes, akin to what Jungle Rock and Dry Rock offer. Out by the airport/waterfall section of the map (NW corner) is anything but done, west half of the map is still very very empty and many roads missing. Should be another 20~30 miles of roads in atleast by the time I get close to adding all of them in. Don't know about a rainy version, sure someone can do it after the next update.
More detail will be present in the next version, I am trying to find time to get more of this done before adding new things. There's just so much to do yet and I've already sank 1200 hours into this map, or close to it. It's definitely over 1100 hours by now, might be 2000 hours by the time it's 'done' or close to it.
Thanks for writing in!

Amazing map my specs are
Core i7 6700k
8gb ddr4 ram 2133mhz
Intel 530 Graphics
2 250gb old laptops hdd
runs well on lowest settings at 38-45fps but drops to 20-30 fps when loading in more of the map, but i am very happy with the map :-D-
Author's Response
Surely, better pc parts will come in due time, until then, you surely have enough fun to keep you busy. Atleast you won't have buyer's remorse if you do spend money on the pc, though, there is always that saving grace.
You are most likely video limited, but the integrated video is pretty good on Skylake, even better than many APU's from AMD (never mind the processor you have is atleast twice as good as any APU). Drop the screen resolution and then you'll surely have a smoother time unless it's loading.
Thanks for writing in though, and yes, this is playable on the Skylake integrated graphics 530 setup (Iris pro gfx also runs this, if I recall correctly), PC specs are always useful when making a map, to know who I am making it for all the better.

Author's Response
They said it couldn't be done. I did it. They said you shouldn't have done that, but I did. So I showed what I did and it was publicly agreed it should go public so - here it is - 1100~1200 hours of my life... but it CAN be done, and it will run on a mainstream gaming rig fairly well, so do enjoy, the first true open-world map with towns and such for Beamng.drive, and the largest map (on earth anyways) for the game. This map also helps the developers optimize their game streaming code for over-the-top amounts of data like this map's uncompressed 1.72GB of data :)
It also turns out to be a super fun stress test for your PC hardware with lots of cars in play (watch that RAM amount).
--Glad you enjoyed it, and keep a watch, eventually I will have an update for this...a few more until it's done anyways, surely.

- 4/5,
It is a good map, but when I run over an area where the sidewalk crosses the road, every tire that goes over it pops.
-
Author's Response
avoid turning harshly or slamming the brakes over a driveway apron (where you cross the curb to enter a driveway, parkinglot, business etc). then your tires shouldn't pop. Even if you're flooring the gas, if you drive pretty straight over the it's all good. Unless you can model every curb with collision for me, for the whole map, I can't change this aspect of the map. However, I can drive for hours and it doesn't happen to me, though that being said, it has happened if I drove recklessly into an apron or sliding sideways into it will trigger that. It's how the game engine handles the edges, though it really doesn't detract from the whole map much.
I wish I could do more about it, but if that is the biggest complaint or only complaint, then I would surmise you had a good time with this. I do what I can, and this map I can do, but make better curbing, I most likely cannot do. Some of the more common ones will get some helper pieces later-on down the line though so it happens less.
