Absolutely Incredible detailing. However i had the same issue as most people likely have. My game crashed after it hit 2 TB on the pagefile.
    1. bob.blunderton
      Author's Response
2TB??? WHOA! Holy smokes. Nothing here has gone over 34,330MB (34GB) of pagefile usage, in weeks, or a month, or however long it's been since I've restarted (many other games have run, also, not just this simulation).
There should be an achievement for it somewhere.

Turning off the UI apps, like the mini-map is recommended if you get lag and such, however, leaving the:
      speedometer (default!),
odometer (to measure miles driven), and
AI app (not in cockpit view, but it's there, for what it's worth)
And again, make sure the *HUD* mini-map is closed, the one on the Beam Navigator device that sticks to the dashboard is fine.

For some reason, this game consumes an ENORMOUS amount of ram *RANDOMLY*, so if you can help us in the discussion forum, listing your system config, then post a screenshot of the HUD (in the same setup as when RAM use goes through the roof, don't leave it on your game for too long though), I might be able to find the common denominator.

Glad you enjoyed it, you'll have to check out the new version tomorrow or Tuesday when it goes live (though I am sure that random RAM-munching bug may still be in, there's more detail in the map).

      --Thanks for writing in!
Oh, and again, Feel free to join us in discussion forum on the tab above to send in your hardware configuration etc, and I might be able to figure out what game 'bug' or 'map bug' is doing what (this is THE largest map, data-wise, size-wise, and road-mileage-wise).
Log files (beamng.log in documents\beamng.drive) folder help too.
That goes for anyone reading this, send in a log file to me, either in the discussion forum or in private message me on here, thanks!

A really well made map, loaded in under 30 seconds, runs smooth on highest settings and RAM usage is under 7GB (BeamNG alone), but still it went over 130GB on the pagefile and crashed after 2 minutes, is there something i can fix about this?

Also like on all big maps my UI seems to be bugging around a bit
    1. bob.blunderton
      Author's Response
130gb!??? That's absolutely nuts. I thought 10~24gb was a lot of pagefile use for a big map.
There is an issue with the UI trying to keep up even on my system on the map, it just can't handle all the data from what I gather, and also, there's a memory leak especially when I leave the editor on overnight. It will hog 12gb of RAM for the UI alone. I will speak with the developers on it as it's been bugging me out over here during long editing/testing sessions.
Glad you still liked the map, work continues, so look for an update within the next month or so.

i love trucking and ai chases / top speed pulls. This map is just the perfect thing i could spend as much time driving around as you took to build it he he. the work you've put in is just overwhelming. i downloaded this and altitude at the same time. you both have made me very sad that i'm so bad with the editor i want to make a map so much but theres just so damn much to learn.
    1. bob.blunderton
      Author's Response
Thanks, it's made for AI chases and cruising. Choose the AI destinations from real-life roads listed in the AI destination UI app (you have to add it in, in UI config menu, comes with the game). Almost all major roads are named. You may have to enlarge UI dialog box to see the full road-name.
Cruising about (more-so in real-world than in video games) can be a 'calming' thing especially if you've got a music player going in the background, mentally. Sometimes it's the simpler things in life that are so rewarding as you get older. The map is also made to demonstrate that Beamng.drive can handle a large open-world map as well as any other modern game. This map was originally only a test.
Don't feel bad if you're not so good with the editor, you'll get better in time. Just don't start with a flat terrain, and you should get off to the right foot. You learn by just doing things over and over until you get it right. It took me 18 months to be able to map like I am now (from Jan/2016), and I am still bested by the likes of a few souls on here. I just keep sinking time into this time sink...errr I should say time BLACK HOLE. I could work on this 8 hours a day (and often do) and still not be done by the holidays. I just keep adding more as we get more features, like future tiled terrain support, then the pesty things like low-res (overly stretched) terrain will be history. This also helped the developers to diagnose game-engine streaming deficiencies - which they've made leaps and bounds of progress in. The next version of this map will surely not disappoint. Check out some of my other maps if you just want some high-mileage cruising maps & enjoy highway cruising.
The new version of this should be out in a few weeks to 1.5 months.

Holy shit sticks on a bun, I was expecting big but not HUGE....like WOW HUGE. This is like the map I've always dreamed of for beamng. It even takes a while to get around with the free cam on full speed lol. runs smooth on almost ultra for me except around the default city you spawn in,Still playable but there are quite a few lag spikes. Other then that amazing frigging job.
    1. bob.blunderton
      Author's Response
Glad you enjoyed the map! This was definitely received with open arms by many folks - the developers included. Thank Synsol for finding a few bugs I missed - which without his watchful eye would have caused an issue.
This game was too realistic and awesome not to have this snake-like road that's about 2 hours from my house here in rural mid-Tennessee.
Lag spikes usually only happen the first time you get around the map, usually they're gone the 2nd and 3rd times you're on it. It's just the game streaming in data/assets and such (like for example, when you get within a mile or two of the dam), so naturally you'll get a little jump now and then in the FPS. Not too bad considering how many (bleeping) trees there are, it is a real forest after-all (except when you get 1000ft from the road, heh). I will most likely take some more time to optimize this map when I do things to keep it fixed up & working between game-version updates (I do make a commitment to maintain my creations).
Anyone with a recent gaming computer built in the last 2~4 years and a video card no older than 2 years old will run this great. Even my Rx 480 8gb does 60~100+ fps here, (my previous performance quote was in-between times of having the editor open and hence wrong, which does seem to slow it down vs just loading the map and driving around). So it's pretty good for what it is. So any 1060, 1070 or better should fly with this map, easily. Video Ram use on high was no higher than 3~4gb.
--Thanks for the review, and keep an eye out for my future endeavors, as this is FAR from the last.

The shear amount of time that this must take...is immense.... There's still a lot to work on, obviously, but this is and will be my all time favorite "driving around" map. Especially when it gets some TLC on the little things. But all in all, fantastic!
    1. bob.blunderton
      Author's Response
Yes, you're not pulling any strings - there's quite a bit I have to take time to finesse. What's the hold-up? Well, eventually the game is supposed to get 'tiled terrain support' so it won't have one big stretched (and hence low-detail) terrain. I have some software that can help with that process here WHEN the game supports it (the feature is on the game's development road-map). However, you couldn't be more right with the map's purpose. Just driving about and / or having some car chases or a RACE or two with the AI is one of the fun-points. You can go in one town, pick an AI target to race to, do a dry run and see where it leads, and have a good race after resetting everyone. The AI isn't 100% flawless but it should pass muster an overwhelming majority of the time. Racing from "East map edge u-turn" to "West map edge u-turn" is also fun as it invokes a race condition up Route 40 (The main east-to-west highway). There's also a north and south map edge turn around on Roane st, which runs between Harriman and Rockwood and beyond, with jumps at both ends (that the AI is oblivious to and hence will nail @ full speed) for fun, which can be used in the same manner, or any combination there-of.
So yes, while it needs work, and lacks complete-ness and detail in many spots, it's still a hoot for just 'driving around' to clear your mind (yes, to an extent, that's viable in a simulator like this), it's also great for crash recreation and AI chases.
I am glad you enjoyed a map I made of an area rather close to home - it's quite fun remaking something that truly exists in real-life. It shows just how close technology is getting. Glad you enjoy this for what it's made for, to say the least. It was a lot of work - 1250~1600 hours estimate. There will be more of this map in the future as the game progresses along, so do check back monthly especially when a version update lands.
Oh, and the train tracks work too and there's almost twenty miles of them! You may have to use the editor to spawn the train properly on the track though.

Roads look good although some parts are too "fresh", map is big but not detailed. Groundmodel is messed up in some places, groundcover is too dense and has sharp edges. Overall it's good.
    1. bob.blunderton
      Author's Response
Can't do anything about the SHARP edges, for now. In future when we get TILED terrains with collision, I'll have that nicked.
Some of the pavement uses the newer looking asphalt, I have some newly created asphalt textures to add in yet that'll replace a lot of that.
More detail will come in the future, after I am done with the DEAL'S GAP / TAIL OF THE DRAGON map.
I've already put over 1500 hours into this map. I will add more detail again as the game version progresses and updates are required. It is far from abandoned, however, it takes much work to make something so huge, so it's going to have corners cut somewhere.
Thank-you for taking the time to write an honest review.

All I can say is, WOW! I live in the Tri-Cities, Tennessee. I go through that area at least once a year going to western Tennessee. Interstate 40 Looks extremely authentic!
    1. bob.blunderton
      Author's Response
Well good to hear from some locals, as always. Glad you can vouch for the authenticity. Aside of the rock in the mountains, I tried to make it fairly authentic. Filling the mountain with trees (as it is supposed to be) absolutely trashed the memory requirements (yes, it would have been another 2gb for ram required with trees on the mountains), and there's a few park signs missing from the freeway, but I TRIED. It's odd to drive through the area in real life though now, as I sometimes have to if I must go to Knoxville (I live just west of the western edge of the map by 2 dozen or 3 dozen miles). I will make the portion of Route 40 just east of this map later this year possibly, and also, Tail of the Dragon (Deal's Gap) will also come out towards the end of summer (am working on that now). --Thanks for writing in & good to hear from you!

I reviewed this map before but until now I just relized how massive it is. I spawned away from the city and was trying to get back but I couldn't. So I got into a plane and I was blown away with the size of it! Originaly I thought it was a city and an airport but there's another city. Exelent job! I'm surprised my computer hasn't died from the size and detail of it. (sorry for typos)
    1. bob.blunderton
      Author's Response
No worries about the typos my friend - you tried and that's all that matters. YES, you *CAN* and most likely will get lost; unless you're from the area, but maybe even then too. There's a map at the top of the resource post for this map. This was originally just a 'large, open-world test for beamng' but after sprucing it up some for myself, I decided to release it, and it's surely been a hit (not to sound like a braggart). I am not regretting releasing it one bit, for those that have the system are able to keep quite busy on it's 163+ miles of roads and trails, stretched over 144 square miles of terrain. That's bigger than GTAV. In the future the airport will be more than just a few lights and some tarmac & paint, as I finish detailing this map. Thanks for the review!

Yes, all good things must come to an end, even this map's world space. However, in between the edges is plenty to keep you busy, I would hope. There's also plenty of jumps strewn about in Harriman downtown area, if you possibly got bored of driving on the 163 miles + of roadways. Thanks for the review. In the future, there will be more to the towns etc, as I get the detail fleshed out.

Thank-you, enjoy the map & good to see ya'all are local.
I live about 20 minutes west of the edge of this map via route 40, or somewhat close to that. It's very odd whenever I must go to Knoxville because I must 'Drive through my map' to do it :)

There's just something fun about driving down here in Tennessee that wasn't the same up in PA, though to it's credit there were some fun roads up there. There's much more miles of roadway down here that just begs to be stuffed into this game and truly enjoyed without killing one's self, because of how many roads don't have guide-rails here.
It's ok, I don't mind the lack of guide rails, because it keeps the taxes cheap, and thins the 'herd' a bit. Don't forget to visit Gatlinburg in the real world before the warm weather is gone, it's still quite lively and there's plenty of green stuff coming back. Thanks again for writing in, and good to hear from a local. --Cheers!

Amazing map.. how do you make the terrain this big, with such great detail? Great work.
    1. bob.blunderton
      Author's Response
Thanks for reviewing this map. This was originally a 'large map / open world game-engine test' for Beamng.drive to see what happens when you put a MONSTROUS map into the game and attempt to drive it. Well, over time of testing, I got to enjoy driving through it, so I kept putting a little more time and such into this map over months of last spring/summer in 2016. To my shock, it ran beautifully, loading hitches aside (they're mostly all gone now, with 0.7~0.9 updates). So I decided to release this map just as 0.7 update came out last fall, due to much demand for it. Surely, the terrain isn't the best at simulating ditches or potholes at the resolution it's at, but if you just want to cruise, there's nothing quite like having all this map at your fingertips. This last version from February shows a concept area (Downtown Harriman) and the amount of detail the finished product will have, along with Kingston about half-done, and Rockwood which is just beginning to have it's road network and buildings put in place. With models kindly donated by a few other folks (@Occam's Razer and @RedRoosterFarm to name a few), I was able to flesh out some of the residential areas pretty nicely. Work is slow but I am currently trying to get masterful at BLENDER so I can make more custom houses and such for everyone to crash into (or role-play using). Eventually, I'll have a new version of the map out. All in due time. For now, enjoy the expansive rural drives of Tennessee and also it's highway US40, the occasional bits of civilization and the plentiful jumps scattered about (especially in Harriman). Again, thanks for writing in.

Awesome Map! Runs very smooth even when using an slow GT940M (except after the map has loaded in then it takes 1 minute to be playable). The Title wasn't wrong about that 8gb thing, I have 8 but it still crashes sometimes do to running out of it (even when only using one car though there too I have very slow memory) Would like to give 6stars!
    1. bob.blunderton
      Author's Response
It *should* work with 8gb no issue, no crashes, generally uses about 5.1~6.5gb as it's run, a little more or less depending on video settings and system configuration. Glad you enjoyed it and it runs smooth, and I thank you kindly for the performance feedback (it lets me know where I can improve, or if it's overburdening everyone, etc). In the future there will be more detail and very possibly some more custom models here, so do check back in the future / coming months.
Rewinding your car can be a memory hog, even with 16gb of ram and multiple cars, just to note. Never-the-less, thanks, and don't forget to have a good time on the jumps in Harriman.

Great map, however, after spawning about 4 cars, BeamNG had a popup appear saying "The game has exceeded memory allocations" and then closed. So... 10/10 would crash BeamNG again
    1. bob.blunderton
      Author's Response
Thanks, and yes, this will use a LOT of memory very quickly, even with 16gb of RAM, Beamng.drive will OMNOMNOMNOM it's way through it with only 6~8 AI vehicles, especially when rewinding a vehicle. There's no way around that. Just free-cam and F7 to move the vehicle vs rewinding it then you should not have any crash-outs or at-least have less of them.

This is the most detailed map I've ever come across. It runs surprisingly well on a laptop with integrated graphics, which aren't terrible but they're still not outstanding or anything, and a dual core (with hyperthreading) notebook CPU. Everything about it screams attention to detail and quality. I can tell you spent a really long time on this map, as it's so detailed and just absolutely perfect in most areas. I don't know how you could add anymore content to this, as it's already superb. Really, excellent work on this!
    1. bob.blunderton
      Author's Response
Well thank you highly sir. I try my best to cram as much as possible in the map without slowing it down to a crawl in too many spots. There's a few areas that need quite a bit of fleshing out, and in time, they will get it. I am busy modeling things for making my own custom models, for a city map, but some will be back-ported to this map, and will help make it run better, and not worse - all while adding more detail and uniqueness to the map.
Expect more detail in the future in the more barren parts of the map, or areas where roads look like they should be, but aren't. Also, in the coming months that remain of summer, keep an eye out for the up-and-coming TAIL OF THE DRAGON map (it's solely a road-race inspired map, not a whole county like this), and a city-themed map "The Leading-Brand City".
Thanks for the performance feedback in the review, it helps me know if folks are able to run this and have a good time, or if things are a mess/slideshow etc. In the end, it helps me make a better/more fun/feature-packed map, and everyone can have a better more enjoyable experience throughout. Rock on brother, thanks for the review, and glad you're having a good time. I tried my best to keep this accessible for everyone, from Powerful PC's to Potato PC's as not everyone can wants to spend as much on a PC (to run a driving simulator) as they could on a used but perfectly serviceable 10 year old automobile. Low graphics for those with 1gb or less of VRAM (video card memory) should leave folks with a playable experience.

    1. bob.blunderton
      Author's Response
Your spud has a good cpu then, with good Integer-per-core performance and floating-point-performance, and enough RAM to get by. I don't think it's as potato as you make it, otherwise it wouldn't run this map. Don't sell yourself short there.
For anyone having troubles running this, it's high-draw-call nature tends to really tax things at times, keep reflections OFF unless you have a 970 nvidia card or Rx 470 or better. Turn off shadows for folks with a slower cpu that is just good enough for the physics.
I am trying to promise folks new versions of this map that will only run better and better, however, while the towns may slow down a bit (where they aren't finished), the rest of the map should be fine. As I get models done for my city map, some will appear here in this map, if they're applicable (with LOD's, collision, etc).
