    1976 SKY Cord 810
    50th Anniversary
Never let American history be forgotten.

For those of you not in the know; the 1936 Cord 810 was a revolutionary car, being one of the very first American front wheel drive vehicles, ever. Due to this, it became forever known for it's unique handling and low, uninterrupted flat floor. It's unique grille and distinctive Cord Orange paintjob further enhanced the 810's identity.

However, in 1937, the Cord Automobile Company went defunct, along with it's unique designs. There would never be another front wheel drive American automobile for 30 years. There would never be another Cord.

    Until now.

The SKY Industries reminagination of the Cord 810 keeps various design traits from the original vehicle.

It keeps the 810's sleek, smooth front profile with pop-up headlights and a body-coloured unintrusive grille that made the Cord's front bodywork appear smooth and uninterrupted.

It keeps the 810's distinctive long hood and far-back greenhouse, which gave the 810 a long, streamlined profile and emphasized the long V8 engine and transmission enhoused within.

It keeps the Cord 810's unique handling traits, with it's powerful engine and advanced transmission relative to it's contemporary coupes; the original 810 being quite a notably fast vehicle capable of modestly tangling some specialized sports cars, even in it's 4-door sedan trim.

(It looks a lot simpler than it was to design; every single SKY Industries vehicle is especially-constructed visually and handling-wise, and is never a simple half-hour build. The Cord 810 just had a very minimalist exterior, and that is reflected here.)

The 1976 SKY Cord 810 is powered by a 8.0L V8 that produces 276 horsepower. That may sound like a modest number, especially for a 4,000lb muscle car, but keep in mind - this is 1976. Not a year has passed since massive American emissions law changes became enforced, and as if overnight, every American make and model has suffered quite a drop in performance. It will take years for technology to catch up again to the new specifications.
