Alpha Valo City 0.79

A diverse city map from SLRR

This map is a direct port of Valo City from the game Street Legal Racing: Redline. I started in 2019 November as a free time thing, however as I started having less and less free time, progression slowed down and eventually stopped. In the past 3 years not much work has been done on it. However seeing the feedback after it's release recently, I've spent many days patching it slowly up to a good state thanks to fellow community members like @BB93, whom you may know from the SLRR community.

    Features of the map:
    - Island
    - Landmarks and unique buildings
    - Long and open highways
    - Dense city and suburban area separated by a canal
    - Over 63 KM of drivable roads

    Remarks of the port:
    • Opened garages and dealerships with Walk-mode optimized collisions
    • Custom made collisions pretty much everything to better suit BeamNG's collision model.
    • Spinning windmills
    • Functional minimap texture from the original game
    • Working Gas Stations
    • Sub 50MB download size
    • Very light map to run, can achieve good performance on low end systems.
    • Optional features:

Here clicking on the hide icon you can toggle stuff like:
    1. Nighttime lighting featuring street lamps
    2. Detailed (Water1) vs SLRR-like Water (SLRR Water) and add Canal Water
    3. Traffic Lights (They blink yellow as if they weren't working... which they currenlty really don't)
    4. Garage lights (Enabled by default, however for ultra low end systems might save some FPS)
I hope that you can take a trip down nostalgia lane in BeamNG with this map mod, regardless it's flaws.

Huge thanks to EvilMcSheep for helping this port by developing custom tools, such as automatic object placement based on SLRR's object coordinates and the AI paths from SLRR as well for this project, wouldn't have been possible without you! Also I want to thank ImageCode LLC. (the current owners of SLRR) who allowed me to use the map assets for this port. And a huge thanks to the BeamNG community and devs for being awesome.

    Things left to do/add:
    - A proper light controller
    - Good AI (Currently has AI however they're not aware of how many lanes there are because waypoint based AI ignores lanesLeft and lanesRight variables.)
    - Gameplay features
    - Minor polishing, mainly with materials and file structure

Please do not report bugs in reviews, if you find something very game breaking (tire popping surfaces, invisible walls) reach out to me about it. I'm aware of most of the bugs, and you're downloading a unfinished mod after all.

I really like how the map looks and the nighttime features, but it runs very poorly for me, and I have an RTX 4070 running at high settings, perhaps I just need to optimize Beam better.

I never played this on the original game, but should you make this map in PBR? It would look much better that way.

Great map. I never played it on the original game unfortunately, but from what I've seen you've done it justice!
The only 2 things I could suggest once the map is filled in is:
-Detail intersections that are bare, maybe add signs such as stop, yield, or intersection ahead. A lot of intersections do have details already which is great.
-The water level is a little wonky and seems super low, but when driving around the map I tend not to notice. I'm pretty sure you don't want the canals to be flooded and that's probably why the way that it is. The water placement in this game can be a little wonky, I get it.
Overall, I enjoy it. Thanks for the map!
