    A Light Truck

    Standard Format: 123456 or AB1234
    Used on vehicles up to 4,500 lbs. GVWR. Most commonly used on medium SUVs and small pickup trucks.

    B Light Truck

    Standard Format: 123456 or AB1234
    Used on vehicles up to 6,000 lbs. GVWR. Most commonly used on large SUVs and pickup trucks.

    C Light Truck

    Standard Format: 123456 or AB1234
    Used on vehicles up to 8,000 lbs. GVWR. Most commonly used on medium-large pickup trucks.

    Car

    Standard Format: 123-ABC or ABC-1234
    Used on most cars and small to medium SUVs.

    Motorhome

    Standard Format: A1234
    Used on motorhomes. The Wisconsin DOT defines a motorhome as "a motor vehicle designed to be operated upon the highway for use as a temporary or recreational dwelling".
    Bus

    Standard Format: 1234B
    Used on any bus. It can be a urban bus, a school bus, or any other kind of bus
    Farm

    Standard Format: 123456F
    Used on farm only vehicles up to 12,000 lbs. GVWR. You cannot use this for commuting or non-farm applications.

    Heavy Farm

    Standard Format: 12345
    The same as Farm, but over 12,000 lbs. GVWR.
    Official

    Standard Format: 1234
    Used for police department vehicles on a local or county level.

    State Patrol

    Standard Format: 123
    Used for state patrol cars.
    NOTE: This is not all the Heavy Truck weights Wisconsin offers! I just did some of the major ones, which I think will suffice.
    Apportioned

    Standard Format: 12345
    Used on large trucks registered with the IRP (International registration plan), which is a method of registering vehicle fleets that travel across at least 2 different member states/provinces frequently. Most commonly used on semi-trucks.

    XD Truck

    Standard Format: 12345
    Used for vehicles up to 10,000 lbs. GVWR. Most commonly used on large pickup trucks.
