Hello, how do I interact with the HUD elements on the PS5 version of the game? I’d like to display different data on the trip computer HUD, but I haven’t been able to figure out how to interact with it—right now, it’s stuck on the default "Trip" display.

I think it's a combination of a couple things. First off, BeamNG has been an early-access tech demo for so long that people got used to it being that way, so now every attempt to polish or simplify it for a general audience is going to take away something somebody liked or used heavily. It's at the point now where even I seem to have at least one "Seriously? Why did they have to change that?" moment with every update. This time, it's taking away the ability to fine-tune dynamic-reflection settings.

And this leads into the other big problem, performance. v0.39 in particular was very graphically heavy and spiked frame rates into the abyss. People are willing to accept that newer games will be more demanding than old ones (even if we all kind of hoped the 1060 would be the forever card), but when you have to pay the ChatGPTax just to keep playing a game you've already been playing for years, that's going to annoy some people, especially when the graphics were frankly already good enough before.

Finally we get to the content. I know the purpose of the game is to "make anything possible", but a lot of people just aren't interested in roleplaying with heavy commercial vehicles or doing hardcore off-road racing. And so when updates keep bringing more cargo vehicles and industrial equipment, people are going to start wondering what the point is and what else those development resources could have been spent on. This is especially the case when more "universal" content (i.e. street-race type vehicles) seems to languish untouched for years. A while back the devs started changing engine tuning options so that UHD long blocks actually increased power but the max power potential of a given engine would be lower; this still hasn't been applied universally, so some cars are OP but less flavorful at the same time. Some cars still suffer from woefully insufficient engine tuning options outright (coughLEGRANcough), neon is still only on a few cars, customization in general can still be iffy, etc.

In general, it seems to me like BeamNG is starting to adopt some of the bad habits of the AAAs, and people instinctively don't like it even if they can't articulate why.

It would be cool if coolant and fuel levels can be implemented into the split screen UI.
A good case for this is a demolition derby so I know how much fuel I have left or if my car will overheat soon.

It's a UN regulation and applies to vehicles in general once deacceleration exceeds a certain amount: https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/?uri=CELEX:42026X0502 (search for 5.2.22.2)

Could you please also check if the 6.8 m (3.1 m wheelbase) frame has the fifth wheel in the correct position? I am pretty certain that the shortest 6x4 and 6x2 taglift chassis should be able to carry standard EU trailers length-wise (without exceeding 16.5 m) and this is not possible if the gap between the cab and trailer is larger than on the 4x2 6.17 m (3.7 m wheelbase) frame, like it seems to be at the moment. This three axle tractor configuration is pretty much standard (or a very common configuration) for semi trucks in the Nordic countries, Ireland and the UK.

New EU trucks (since 2020) can also be type approved in accordance with 96/53/EC ARTICLE 9A, which allows longer cabs, but this does not change how trucks are configured behind the cab (fifth wheel placement, etc. is the same as regular EU trucks).

    • Regarding the new dummy, it's unfortunate that it can't be recoloured in single-player mode. In a cinematic context, I can see myself and many others wanting to repaint it red to match a race car's livery, for example. Another suggestion is an option for the visor display to be completely blank/unlit to better approximate an actual visor, also especially useful in cinematics.
    • When sorting by country, the new FPU trailers are correctly tagged as Polish, but despite being renamed to follow suit, the Randolph trailers aren't tagged with a country:

    • Speaking of which, I've noticed inconsistent translation fallback behaviour when updating one of my mods. The former screencap is after I added translation keys for config names and descriptions (with valid English and Japanese strings), and the latter is the same, but with a separate WIP mod vehicle. In both cases, I switched to an unsupported language (German) to test the fallback behaviour. At a glance, it seems like the fallback functions as intended on separate mod vehicles, but not on mod configs for vanilla vehicles.

In my experience, the lights disappear when the thumbnail is actually being captured (i.e. after you hit the button).

I came across Section 53 of the StVZO (German Road Traffic Regulations) for Germany, which sets out the requirements for tail lights, brake lights and reflectors: there is no explicit requirement that the brake lights must illuminate (presumably also because a retarder does not decelerate as sharply as the regenerative braking system in electric cars). I actually think it’s a nice feature that could be worth considering. If it was already included in the Mercedes Actros Mk3, it would certainly suit the Cherrier quite well!

I’ve also noticed the excessively loud engine noise in the driver’s cab; furthermore, the horn sounds unbalanced in stereo mode on my vehicle (sometimes too far to the right of the driver seat, then only sounding on the left when turning the camera)

Otherwise, it would be really cool if one of the upcoming updates could focus on the changes in interior sounds as soon as you open the door.

I’m blown away with this new addition. I’ve really been missing a vanilla EU lorry up until now :)

Supersampling is not possible to use with temporal tech (which is how the new upscalers work), though this isn't really indicated currently and a better display for that limitation should be coming for a future hotfix. If you want to use supersampling for screenshots you'll need to switch to one of the old, non temporal AA modes in your graphics settings unfortunately.
(likewise screen space reflections also will not work properly combined with supersampling for the same reason)

Node grabber is broken (v0.40.1): it grabs to a node only when the mouse button is already pressed. If you click on a node expecting that node to be grabbed you'd be wrong, it grabs whatever node you hover when you have the mouse button pressed. See attached video.

this is the nature of DLSS. It's AI, so of course it messes up small things. If it's too annoying just use SMAA T2x.

I think the NVIDIA app DLSS is for the frame generation. BeamNG implemented DLSS upscaling, not frame gen.
The difference is that Frame Generation creates fully AI frames between real ones to make it look better (and more FPS)
Upscaling (the one that BeamNG has) makes the game render in a lower resolution (like 720p) and it uses AI to upscale the image to the native resolution (like 1080p)
framegen increases input lag, upscaling decreases

Greetings. Modded engine and exhaust sounds have become very quiet. When I replace the sound config with the default one from a vanilla BeamNG vehicle, the volume is fine; however, as soon as I switch back to the modded config, it becomes quiet again. I’ve also noticed that it’s no longer possible to increase the `maingain` value—it’s either negative or capped at 0, with no way to set it to a positive value. Could you please fix this?

i know this is already in the known issues, but the interaction boxes flickering on linux makes using the interaction buttons nearly impossible. please start trying to look for a fix, its genuinely really annoying that i cant use them right now.

This might be a UI only problem, you can try to print the translated keys in console using this line to see if the fallback works in lua:
    Code:
    print(require("core/locales").translate("some.translation.key"))
It's also possible the game only looks for translations for official vehicles in vanilla files, but looks in all files for modded cars. If that's the case you can try temporarily modifying the vanilla en-US locale file with your translation keys and see if they load properly. I think config names are in the "vehicleGenerated" file.

I have 32 gigs of ram(planning to upgrade soon), an RTX 4060, and an AMD Ryzen 7. Not the best but its been working great for the past years and worked pretty good on 0.39, also this only happens in the percheron, none of the other cars do this

On West Coast the minimap shows the location for the canals as Aquaduct instead of Aqueduct.

i really dont see why they couldnt implement a fallback system so it doesnt break every single car mod for this game

Yep, that seems like the problem. The keys now display as keys in English too. At least I can have the Japanese translations "piggyback" off of the English strings instead of using keys, but it'd be nice if mod translation key support was extended to vanilla vehicles at some point in the near future, since piggybacking whole config descriptions is a bit kludgey.
