INTRODUCTION OF THE BRAND Salakyan is a Filipino automobile brand originating from Bacolod, Philippines. Salakyan is the Hiligaynon word for "Car" and produced Steampunk inspired automobiles during the 1940s - 1960s. Hiligaynon is one of the most spoken languages in the Philippines aside from "Filipino" the official language of the Philippines. INTRODUCTION OF THE VEHICLE The propeller was the first car produced, balancing both Steampunk and reality as the designers and engineers were huge steampunk fans. It was originally built as a prototype, and wasn't meant for production until they showed the car to the public and they loved it, forging the Salakyan brand. It was also expensive producing the vehicle because it wasn't using ordinary parts as the components were designed to capture the steampunk vibes, and different types of metals were used like Brass, Copper, and Gold. INTRODUCTION OF THE MOD This is a revival from the 2017's thread where the brand was originally called "Stryder" and I'll do a complete overhaul, and Jbeam the car. I've finished the body shell and I'm tidying up the wireframe before I'll start working on the components. It will still have it's Rear engine, front wheel drive system and the model will be better than before, and have PBR textures. 2017 Model and 2023 Model comparison PROGRESS SHEET Q&A Q: Why did you rename it from Stryder to Salakyan? A: I wanted a name that meant something and Stryder didn't have anything. I also wanted to make a car brand that represents my hometown so that's why I changed it to Salakyan. Q: Why are you remastering this car? A: I want to apply everything that I've learned throughout the years of modeling and texturing to the car. Q: Why 1945 and not 1944 anymore? A: To be lore accurate, the brand was founded after WWII ended and the war ended in 1945, so I changed it. Q: Will it be paid? A: Absolutely not Q: Will it have configs? A: Yes, It will. I'm making a list of configs at the moment To take the 2017 version out for a spin go to this REPOSITORY, I'm also fixing some issues on that car too before I'll hand out an update. So... there you go! Expect some updates Progress as of 9/4/2023
The new model is a lot better already, more realistic and period-correct but still keeps its weird distinct steampunk style, really cool!
if my wheel didn't turn my desk into a giant shaker whenever a car without power steering is in use, I'd probably like this more, but hey, it's looking great so far
PINOY PRIDEEEEEE --- Post updated --- I never knew someone would make a Pinoy car since shit like this is non existent nowadays (if you are counting jeepneys and the Aurelio supercar)
will it also have all of the things that the up-to-date cars have like openable doors, selectable configs, licence plates, crash noises and stuff
Nice, I like the idea of being RF but, would be cool if you made a RWD version... For the drifty boys at leaste
Thanks for the kind words everyone, appreciate it Yea, I always hoped that the Philippines would have their own car brand. Sarao is a Filipino brand but they only produce Jeepneys. Aurelio, It's been a while since I've heard from them It's meant to be a quirky/peculiar automobile Like @NotElyBuendia said, they're experimenting with weird layouts. There were 3 cars to my knowledge that had this layout but was never into production Openable Doors, I think I can do that. Selectable Configs, definitely. License plates, crash noise and stuff. Not sure but I'll see what I can do when It's ingame I'm planning a RWD conversion for a Gasser/Drag config I'll try to figure out a drift config
Alright, so after a cleanup session here's how the wireframe looks like at the moment. Time to work on the components
Hello m8's I have some progress to show. After looking around and gathering references from cars from the 40s including the burnside model even though its from the 50s but the body has a lot of specific parts I can easily take a closer look, I converted the body shell into panels, and working slowly on the vehicle's components. I'm using parts from my old propeller as placeholders on which will remain for remodeling or will be archived and I'm taking the time to model each piece. For the suspension components, it will still use leaf spring solid axles, though I am considering friction shock absorbers as another config. Unlike the previous vehicle where it was an i4/i6 it will now use V8 as a standard engine, along with a manual transmission. There will be a RWD system because I am planning for a gasser/drag and drift config. I don't have that much experience on drift & gasser/drags so I'd like to hear your feedbacks when the time comes I'll be making it. The layout will be like this So yea, for now I'm working on the chassis before I proceed to the drivetrain components, I'll be also making a google sheet to track my progress. If you have any questions, feel free to ask
Yes, I'm still making a list of the configs I want to do, the stock car is one of them. I originally had plans for a wagon but it was scrapped.
