The 3-Series stopped being "good-looking" (together with all its range stablemates) when Chris Bangle (the aforementioned 5-years old with a pencil) took the role of chief designer at BMW. His influence still plagues the current designs, with creases, discontinuous lines and scribbles everywhere. The current one is an overstyled lump of incoherent styling cues, only good-looking if you redesign a good chunk of it, starting from the chinese-looking frontend.
