    Hello guys! It’s been another while since the last update, but I finally felt like updating you guys on the interior. This post will most likely include the modelling process only, but that’s the most interesting bit so I suppose it’s not a bad thing.

    So, to make a start on it, I begun with the dash, starting by extruding off the window rim;
    upload_2022-8-8_14-30-46.png upload_2022-8-8_14-30-46.png
    …then extruding downward and giving bevels appropriately for a nice, smooth base shape…
    upload_2022-8-8_14-31-23.png
    …and following the shape of the Land Cruiser’s, made a base shape in the centre for the control stack and vents.
    upload_2022-8-8_14-32-11.png upload_2022-8-8_14-32-11.png upload_2022-8-8_14-32-11.png upload_2022-8-8_14-32-11.png
    (polyflow check)

    To make sure the dashboard wasn’t floating in mid-air, I also reworked the central intcarpet, following the width of the transmission tunnel but giving support below the dash. It also looks nicer than the vague shape it was before.
    upload_2022-8-8_14-39-9.png upload_2022-8-8_14-39-9.png
    Next, some small proportional edits and the sides hidden by the doors.
    upload_2022-8-8_14-40-10.png upload_2022-8-8_14-40-10.png
    After I’d made sure that whole area was as tidy as I could, I moved onto designing stuff. This time, the control stack, climate screen and centre console;
    upload_2022-8-8_14-42-40.png
    Then I slowly but surely turned it 3D.
    upload_2022-8-8_14-43-47.png upload_2022-8-8_14-43-47.png upload_2022-8-8_14-43-47.png upload_2022-8-8_14-43-47.png upload_2022-8-8_14-43-47.png upload_2022-8-8_14-43-47.png upload_2022-8-8_14-43-47.png upload_2022-8-8_14-43-47.png upload_2022-8-8_14-43-47.png
    (polyflow check)
    upload_2022-8-8_14-43-47.png

    Then, a small design for the infotainment screen…
    upload_2022-8-8_14-44-40.png
    …and that became 3D too.
    upload_2022-8-8_14-44-57.png upload_2022-8-8_14-44-58.png
    Next up, the centre storage lid;
    upload_2022-8-8_14-45-34.png upload_2022-8-8_14-45-34.png
    …and the shifter…
    upload_2022-8-8_14-45-49.png upload_2022-8-8_14-45-49.png
    upload_2022-8-8_14-46-10.png
    …and some buttons for manual climate control, plus a storage cubby handle.
    upload_2022-8-8_14-47-3.png

    Now I’d added all the detail I needed to the centre console, I moved onto the sides, with the non-hand-drive-specific details first…
    …being the vents only. I thought there was more lol
    upload_2022-8-8_14-48-36.png
    Once I’d done the singular non-hd-specific thing, I moved onto the gauges, which needed some dash reshaping first after applying the mirror modifier.
    upload_2022-8-8_14-50-35.png
    …then the housing and screen…
    upload_2022-8-8_14-51-5.png
    …and finally, a steering column.
    upload_2022-8-8_14-51-52.png
    (the dash model)
    upload_2022-8-8_14-56-12.png
    So that’s the dash done for now.
    Next, sticking with the front of the interior, it needs some front door cards. These first need a bit extruded off the side of the dash to match up, then some more bits extruded off the door itself to fit properly;
    upload_2022-8-8_14-54-24.png
    Once I’d got that general shape modelled, I started with more detail, adding parts such as the armrest, upper storage cubby and the place where the window controls will end up mounting on.
    upload_2022-8-8_14-57-6.png upload_2022-8-8_14-57-6.png upload_2022-8-8_14-57-6.png upload_2022-8-8_14-57-6.png
    (people pointed out to me that my armrest was far too low so I raised it a little with some other proportional edits)
    upload_2022-8-8_14-58-42.png upload_2022-8-8_14-58-42.png
    …then some more details such as silver and piano black trim…
    upload_2022-8-8_14-59-11.png upload_2022-8-8_14-59-11.png
    …which means the front door card is done.
    You’d probably think we were moving onto the rear door card next, but no, I made the decision, in my infinite wisdom, to make the steering wheel. I suppose I could’ve been wanting to get the frontal interior done, so here’s how I made the wheel so we can keep the order… well, orderly.
    Firstly, I made a top-view design for it;
    upload_2022-8-8_15-3-47.png
    …then I put that in blender and started modelling it vertically, starting with the horn.
    upload_2022-8-8_15-7-18.png
    …then moving outward to the rim, and bridging between the two with edges drawing out the side spokes…
    upload_2022-8-8_15-8-18.png
    …then a completely separate lower spoke, to be joined later.
    upload_2022-8-8_15-8-51.png
    After that, I just started adding detail, such as the thickness of the side spokes, piano black parts and wood trim.
    upload_2022-8-8_15-11-8.png upload_2022-8-8_15-11-8.png upload_2022-8-8_15-11-8.png
    At this stage, the front looked nice and tidy, but the back was a different, very unfinished story.
    upload_2022-8-8_15-11-53.png
    …so I started filling that in and shaping it to fit the front…
    upload_2022-8-8_15-16-51.png upload_2022-8-8_15-16-51.png
    …which, once I was finished with that, meant that the wheel was also done, so I fitted that into the interior.
    upload_2022-8-8_15-18-37.png
    …and I think that’s where I’ll leave it for part 1 of the modelling process! Thanks, as always, for reading this far and I look forward to seeing you all on the thread.
    I’ll try to get part 2 out in good time, but no promises or anything as you guys probably know just how bad I am at sticking to them.
    :)

    Next update on post #866
    (this isn’t part two but shows the finished interior)
