So far its amazing, lots of attention to detail on every corner. My only suggestion so far is the driveshaft REALLY needs some more durability. It breaks way too often when trying do trucking stuff XD
Everything seems quite weak. As you can see here: https://www.youtube.com/live/2vbmQbict8k?feature=share&t=7647 a relatively small impact on the side breaks off the hood, cab and most of the side accessories. Also none of those seem to even have proper support beams. The D-Series is at least 3 times stronger than this.
The hood would be made of fiberglass IRL and they break off pretty easy. 90% of medium duty trucks at salvage auctions with front end damage are missing the hood. Almost feels like a design feature.
I don't think this is even simulated as fiberglass, if it was it would be more noticable, it behaves like steel to me
If we're on a roll, frames are also not properly done. Torsion bars are not well set up and custom lengths do not behave well either. I am aware of all these flaws and I will fix them over time. All this is because I don't really use vehicles harshly in beamng therefore didn't really have a need to test such behavior even if I knew other people would do this quite often. I was more interested in having a good looking vehicle that behaved well enough for what I've needed, with a lot of authentic customization available which is what it is and continuing to be.
Yeah that's also a good approach and it's very visible that you took it, it would take ages to make this mod up to all professional standards because it's massive, so you can just fix the biggest issues and it should be fine
It would take restructuring everything to make it up to the professional standards while I started off from borrowing parts from vehicles that weigh half of the Durham. The axles are my main concern which is where I can entirely remake them but everything else will not be redone, only improved upon.
This is very relatable, I have the same feeling about the Maluch mod, I took a lot of the Jbeam from the Piccolina which is a completely different shape and construction, and the Covet which is much bigger and heavier, and I have added so many customization parts to the mod that it would take decades to redo it to professional standards, so I've just been fixing the most glaring issues. I thought I could redo the Jbeam for the next update but it's way too much work so I'll only change what is visibly messed up such as rear suspension, parts of the lower body, quarter windows, etc.
Exactly. Plus I've learnt a lot in regards of what to use and what not to use and how to do things better that any of the addon content will be scratch made in terms of jbeam and model so they work as ideal as possible with the base vehicle. Same goes with any of the future vehicles I make, of which I have 2 in works currently For anyone thinking the paid content won't be worth it if compared against the base mod, here's the jbeam of the utility bed that I've created from scratch:
If so, he could've just told me that. I've yet to decide if the Durham stuff will go on the D-series but upfits that work could be included in the addon. The utility bed is not a direct fit on the D-series frame both by length and height and floor configuration so it would need some simple modifications and proportion adjustments. Same can't be said for other upfits as I don't want to create 9 different D-series frames just to have every upfit work on them, however at one point I could do that with a dedicated D-series content pack.
Besides those, I also noticed that the hood seems to pretty much not deform at all, it just breaks off but retains its shape. I understand that your options for this are limited since Beam doesn't currently have the ability to properly simulate fiberglass breaking (pictured below), but I feel like the closest you could do for now is have it bend and crumple on impacts. Right now it's a bit unrealistic for the hood to stay intact after head on with a semi at 70mph and everything else gets destroyed.
Deformation like that could be simulated if the hood was Jbeamed and "assembled" like the real hood is. The real hood is multiple fiberglass pieces put together at seam lines which are prone to breaking more than anywhere else. Plus with enough jbeam node density, tearing and fracturing the mesh in a favorable and realistic way would be possible. In general I'm not too happy with the hood either but it's not a real priority either currently
I debated with myself a lot if I should build the Durham hood in a structure similar to the real Kodiak hood and ended up not because the hoods were already redone a few times and I didn't want to bother. I may end up doing it and then adding much more detail to the underside such as molding marks and whatnot and jbeam it in a new way that will allow what I said, along with better proportions
Awesome mod but the sound design needs adjustments. In comparison to stock sounds most Durham engines are blowing your ear off and it is very annoying to tweaking the sounds all the time because of this.
What engines? "Most" (4.5, 5.5, 6.9, 6.0td) are off of the vanilla Gavril's and the 8.5 V10 is based around it using very similar audio values. Only real custom sounds are the 7.8 V8 (which is still similar to the others), 10.4 V8 and the 7.1 diesel which are in a fewer amount of configs.
