Okay here's my entry of what happened, In my headcannon, this shares the same universe with Those Who Remain (a roblox game, play here: https://www.roblox.com/games/488667523/Those-Who-Remain ), the Girl with All The Gifts (a British science-fiction novel/film (proof here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Girl_with_All_the_Gifts_(film) and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Girl_with_All_the_Gifts ) which takes place 20 years into the future in a post-apocalyptic United Kingdom overrun by the Hungry Zombies (more commonly preferred as just hungries) which were spawned due to a radioactively-mutated variant of Ophiocordyceps unilateralis had now became parasitic and resulting in aggressive behavior to not just ants once effected, but other insects and larger living organisms such as animals, birds and even humans once infected, The fungai spread all across South America and eventually the rest of the globe which resulted in a total breakdown of society following the collapse of major governments worldwide, The plot is about a young girl who is half hungry-half human who only attacks when her hunger strikes and when those non-effected are wearing blocker gel, Melanie, who is curious about the outside world, while being tested by the head scientist at her holding place, a military air base known as Beacon, Dr Caroline Caldwell, who may believe Melanie may hold a cure to end the Hungries once and for all (In my headcannon Those who Remain is cannon to the Girl with All The Gifts), Alrighty enough talking here is the story: The Beginning Of the End: The Ophiocordyceps unilateralis outbreak The Lore of ANWCUSA My fanmade lore. Date of The Fall September 5th, 2028 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -Lore On August 2nd, 2028, news arose of a new mutated variant of a fungus which already existed, "Ophiocordyceps unilateralis" which had now became infectious to all living organisms including humans, and sustainable to all climates including cold climate, across a small town in Iceland. It was first discovered by a research team, frozen over ice, They soon took it to their lab, where they found it was infested by a new pathogen, Apparently it was soon revealed the fungus infected one of the members, as that researcher's eyes began to glow bright yellow and become incredibly violent, and attack another researcher several minutes later, reportedly biting her on the leg, The rest of the team soon called the police, who the infected attacker was soon shot dead by the police forces for not following orders, and pushing off other officers. After the whole incident a week later, his body was taken to a nearby morgue for examination. What they discovered was quite disturbing. What they had found wasn't a simple pathogen. It was a unique strain of the O. unilateralis fungus or fully known as Ophiocordyceps unilateralis, notably found in ants. It apparently had mutated to become infectious to other living organisms including animals and humans, now this was a scary discovery. It was immediately reported to the WHO as a possible global outbreak case, spreaded by bodily fluids and a very dangerous one as those who were non-infected were bit by an infected, they would immediately turn, as the researcher who was bit in the leg soon became infected and turned, eventually being shot by the police aswell only 3 days later. Few days after the initial discovery of this new fungal infection strain, there was a sudden spike in cases around the area with the first exposure involving OUF. Scientists began quickly trying to come up with a vaccine for the disease. They quickly covered it up as a new strain of the flu.. No one knows except the WHO and the scientists at the lab know about OUF spreading amongst other organisms. They looked further into where this new strain came from. Eventually they found where it first originated or how it was being transmitted from ant, animal and to human. A processing plant, was a water processing facility which happened to also be processing contaminated water, The facility was quickly shut down but the damage was already done, it so happened to also contaminate many other water products which have already been sent out to supply water towers to the USA days prior due to the factory's role in transporting fresh water to the United States and contaminated other already-transported water supplies. After a week, news reports started coming out about the new pathogen. Reporting how it was in tap water and getting others sick and incredibly violent with this supposed "Pathogen". Many cities volunteered to restrict tap water, even if they weren’t contaminated. Immediately there was a rise in thirst around North America. Completely shutting down any water towers that were up and investigating. Sure it helped slow the spread a little but wasn’t enough. The WHO reported saying they were working on a Vaccine against OUF. Others were hoping it would come soon, including the world after gaining news. In a press conference, the President of The United States then issued a warning about a possible deadly parasitic fungus spreading prior to the WHO announcing work on a vaccine, saying to stay home and only drink bottled water until the issue is resolved. Lockdowns started happening across the states and borders closed, if you were found outside, you’d be fined heavily without a reason in some states. This then brought many protests, about how it was a violation of their rights and free will while many Texas residents kept muttering out "IF YOU TAKE AWAY MY FIRST AMENDMENT RIGHTS YOU'RE GONNA TAKE AWAY MY SECOND AMENDMENT RIGHTS". After a few days had passed, an attack was reported in Toronto, Ontario Canada involving the OUF strain. Video evidence shows a man who was infected started attacking others inside the CN tower. The individual was later shot dead by police after not following commands, and charging at officers. After this, it gained panic and worry around the world, was this OUF? Or was it drugs? The man had bitten 4 people; those 4 were taken into care for their injuries after the incident. About 3.5 weeks later, the WHO and CDC came out with some great news. They had come out with a “booster” esc like vaccine for the supposed OUF outbreak. It added extra protection against the contagion in case you’ve gotten sick. As it was noted in earlier weeks, there was no fatality rate from CWD. It would only make you severely sick. Though these “vaccines” only ended up making the people sick quicker, which didn’t make sense according to the testing run by the WHO and CDC. So the vaccine was ultimately rolled back and placed under more study…. This was a huge mistake that they’ve made. On September 5th, more cases of OUF were reported in alarming numbers in France, Spain, Russia, the Philippines United Kingdom, India, Ukraine, Vietnam, Germany, Malaysia, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Canada, Mexico, China, Norway, Finland, Indonesia, South Korea, Sweden, Taiwan, North Korea, and Thailand. After it was reported by the news media that OUF now became a threat across the Earth, panic quickly arose from OUF. Countries urged the WHO to come up with a new proper vaccine quickly as they started shutting their borders down and reports of riots, panic and looting along with fights regarding people wanting to keep their family and loved ones safe from those infected in major cities worldwide. Just a few days after the initial outbreak, more attacks, fights, beatups, deaths and injuries were being reported across the world involving OUF. More panic quickly arose from the country’s citizens. Because of this, the United States quickly deployed the National Guard and put up quarantine zones overnight across the states and cities, and many of the worlds presidents, leaders and prime ministers urging citizens to stay home till the head dies down. Though everyone and their mother had the same idea to leave their homes and rush to these military safe zones, causing lots of backup in traffic which lead to gridlock on every Interstate in the U.S and every provincial highway in Canada,. All seemed to be going fine for a little bit. Until it happened, those sick with OUF started fleeing hospitals to a secluded place, killed them selves by shooting in the mouth or head, or anywhere they ended up turning into zombie like creatures with incredibly violent behavior and cannibalistic tendencies, going after those in the long lines of cars or anywhere they saw a non-infected to brutally attack, infect and consume their flesh alive, causing panic and despair. Forcing the military to open fire on anyone who was deemed infected or a threat... They tried their best to keep everything under control, helping citizens get to safety. Though sadly most of these zones were quickly overrun, at least their first lines of defenses which resulted in the rest of the citizens to brutally be killed and consumed alive by the infected. This was only happening in larger cities such as Los Angeles, California, Belasco, California, Toronto, Ontario, Houston, Texas, Washington D.C, Salt Lake City, Utah, Los Injurus, Nevada, Las Vegas, Nevada, Tokyo, Japan, Rome, Italy, Berlin, Germany, Seoul, South Korea, Pyongyang, North Korea, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, London, UK, Sydney, Australia, and many more. Smaller towns were evacuated to smaller safe zones for the time being or were completely left and leaving the people there to fend for themselves. This was reported all around the world, causing even more panic as soon the same started to happen in other neighboring countries. From that day on, September 7th, the world as we knew it fell apart and into shambles. Chaos everywhere, people in despair, scared, lost, violently fighting each other for survival, shooting themselves/commiting suicide to end it all, Killed in plane/car crashes, brutally infected after being consumed/eaten alive, and confused, Eventually. abandoned gas tankers were flipped over due to infected, causing explosions, towering inferno, and structural fires in large cities followed by collapsing buildings, plane crashes, car pileups, . The darkest days of humanity have hit, marking history forever. Months went by as the chaos toned down and news stopped comming in as TV/Radio stations worldwide began ending transmission and going off the air, one by one, the WHO and CDC later confirmed the latest vaccination tests have failed. Documented 02/20/2024. But WHO and CDC still tried again and again for months non stop, hoping to come up with something to fight the infection.. but, they were unsuccessful. They reported to the world of those who were still alive and listening that they were ending the search for the cure of the OUF outbreak as it seemed impossible. Already nearly 5 billion people have died, countries, militaries and cities fell and collapsed. Society as they knew it was gone. The WHO and CDC later disbanded as of 11/19/2030. But.. those who still wanted to look for a cure, were left everything they needed. This new group, called [REDACTED]. Have been on the search for a long time, no one knows who they are, or where they are. But anyone that's heard of them, call them Phantoms. In short, “Ghosts who still fight for the cure” or “The Lost Ghosts of the old world”. The USA, alongside Canada and Mexico, stayed semi-functional throughout the first initial years of the outbreak. The USA, Mexico and Canada were later broken down and taken over by the government branch known as the Federal Agency Who Still fight for Society and Humanity's Survival or FEAWSFFSHS for short after the U.S and Mexico's Presidents and Canada's Prime Minister died during the OUF outbreak, (kinda weird in short, the leader couldn't figure out of a better name). Working together and trying to bring back society, or what was left of it. ;In and around North America, the quarantine zones stand strong, but not for long. As infected and rival groups begin to cause problems. With what’s left of the completely damaged and destroyed major cities which later became a total loss, the military began bombing the surrounding areas as a way to contain and rid of the infected and anyone who went against the new government. Keeping order behind the walls, making sure no one gets out, and keeping strict rules high. Many years would pass, and as they go on, many of these so-called safe spaces would fall to either the infected or the people themselves fighting back against the government. Many infected became either Normal infected who attacked and ate any non-infected human it saw to infect them, or the Bloated which threw spore bombs at those-non infected, Military personnel who were infected were more faster to run at non-infected once turned ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What's scary to think about is some have heard the infected talking, not full words but some understandable. Almost as if they know they're attacking someone, or they know they're eating someone.. Had a guy tell me he ran into a bloater one over in the remains of the Turbo Burger building's dining area, it saw him but resisted itself for a few seconds, as if it was giving him time to run. Baffled, he told me he stayed there and fought the sick one, took a swing at him and dodged the spore bombs, verbally saying “sorry” but in a muffled, gurgly tone before killing it.
