How are we going to enforce that people do it the right way? I mean, obviously we can't force people to change their ways. But how do we talk sense into these people? It's a pain to see new AI posts every week, knowing half of them are from new accounts that just want quick fame, or, in the rare occasion actually enjoy the game, but has no idea what goes into a mod. We should find a way to encourage these people to limit their use, or perchance urge the moderation team to start limiting the amount of AI generated mods they accept.

People like Techarite are the reason this is an issue in the first place (if we factor out the obvious AI part) and it's just... frustrating that people can't see how much it ruins geniune creativity.

I do know i sometimes overreact, but reading this concerns me. I don't want the childhood game i love and adore to turn into something unrecognizable and devoid of what it used to be. BeamNG is about passion and creation, not the absence of passion with unfiltered and thoughtless creation.

I agree that seeing the Repository flooded with low-effort mods isn't good for the community.

But I don't think limiting the number of AI generated mods is necessarily the right solution. It wouldn't really address the underlying problem, and it could also penalize people who genuinely put a lot of effort into their projects while using AI as a tool.

Personally, I'd rather see stricter quality standards for all mods, regardless of how they're made. For example, requiring proper testing, clear descriptions of what the mod actually adds, and making sure it works correctly before being approved. Mods that are obviously unfinished, broken, or just mass-produced with no real effort shouldn't be accepted simply because they technically work.

I also agree with Jagd that things seem to be getting worse, but I think we should be careful not to automatically associate AI assistance with a lack of creativity. Someone can spend weeks developing something original with AI, just as someone can make a completely unoriginal mod without it.

As for the passion aspect, I think that's precisely what matters. To me, passion isn't defined by whether you wrote every line of code yourself, but by how much thought, creativity, testing, and effort you put into the final result.

Ultimately, I think we should judge mods by their quality and originality, not simply by the tools used to create them.

there is already a tag that says AI, it's used on some of these mods. The main issue that I have is that it's not required to add it (so most people don't), and you can't search by tag or blacklist tags. The tags system, in it's current state, is completely useless, like the practically unusable search function ("the following terms were too short or too common: basically all you searched for lmao get rekt").

The problem is that an AI tag puts every AI-assisted mod in the same category, regardless of quality. Even an exceptional, innovative mod could be dismissed simply because of that label. It also penalizes transparent creators while encouraging others to hide their AI usage. What matters should be the actual quality of the mod, not the tools used to create it.

That too, I feel like the moderators should be doing more to weed out this low-quality slop. It's the same thing with those unedited MapNG exports.

Exactly! The worst part is that many mods are already in violation of BeamNG's repository rules, but the developers aren't doing anything about it. I can start by mentioning mods that don't even display a logo.

Oh, don't get me started on that. I regularly search up old posts from Gabester, and it's so obtuse having to search twice because the website keeps telling me that I searched for the wrong thing. This is especially annoying when the thing I searched for (like "wendover sedan") already is in the tags. The search function also still sees things like "d-series" as two separate words, which means looking up Gabe's posts on that vehicle is just...not that fun. (The I-Series has the same issue, but Gabe's only made like, four posts on ETK as a whole.) Then again, I doubt many people even bother using the search function, and I understand why - it's never been all that great.

i have no problem with AI, as long it "ASSISTS" you in work, like explains some texturing tips, explains how to do main.materials, but the mods that are 100% AI generated or Stolen are mostly just bad thing

AI obviously wont be "outlawed" anytime soon. But how it is used should DEFINITELY play a role. The highlighted text in my reply is what i disagree with. Sure, that is one half, but again it takes away the creativity. If an AI did your job better than you but killed your passion for doing it, would how good it's work is really matter? For me, it's an obvious no. As Maple is saying it's here to ASSIST, not generate.

Oh, it gets worse: those three resources now have botted reviews from brand new accounts. I think it's a big problem.

I've been inactive for a few years... the over-done patreon premiums attached to everything and more recently, ai stuff is a huge reason I don't even bother with much here anymore... I've unfortunately bought well over 3x this games' value in mods that hardly even function anymore without re-subscribing.
