That is seriously great CPU ppd. Add in a amd r9 290 and you would have a great machine. Anything below GK110 on nVidias side is a bit compute weak. But to put this in perspective, GPU's are usually much better for folding, and your CPU is getting as much as my videocard. My CPU gets ~4k ppd.

I think he was saying that your cpu was going hard in the paint but your whole pc could go even harder with a wicked graphics card. something like that.

Anyway, My pc broke so i have my 8400gs lying around. I installed it in my p4 folding computer to see what it would do. I'm downloading the driver for it right now. My p4 3.00ghz only gets 220 ppd lol. Not running at 100% still, don't know why

edit: I don't know how to fold with gpu and it's late so I'll try tomorrow

Ah. In Drive even with graphics settings maxed the CPU is still my bottleneck. (Except for some of the really vegetated maps)

For those who want to see the innards of my budget rig:

Old Thermaltake case I got from local computer shop cheap
    Some 500w PSU
    $40 water cooler
    EVGA GTX 650TI Boost (Overclocked)
    AMD A8-3850 2.9GHz (Overclocked to 5.4GHz)

Yep. I was just saying how your CPU, which should get 1/10 as much as my videocard is passing it. Pretty crazy. About the 290x I was just saying that it is the best card for folding under the 780 and Titan. No need to upgrade.

@moosdicks I doubt F@H supports the 8400gs. I think it only goes back the the 5xxx series on amd and the 2xx series on nvidia a side. You'll have to check their website.

I may may be able fold later this week, moving my computer into a cooler room.

I only run my desktop maybe 5 hours a day. I was thinking maybe it'd be a good idea to set up an old netbook I have for folding? It has a Atom and super crappy Intel GMA graphics.

Almost 20,000 PPD. Do I win? (I just upped my GPU OC, it's still climbing)

I get 22k. :p But once you find the max stable core you should go for memory until the performance degrades.

I get around 27k ppd. If I get around to over clock my gpu I can probably squeeze out a few more ppd.

Yes. I would really buy that as a folding machine.

I did some calculating and found that my entire set up (Monitors, computer case, etc) cost me $320. Some of the parts (One of the screens, PSU) were given to me used for free and the mobo and CPU were xmas presents.

Btw, who are LSDMT and BrickBox? They're obviously new, but the names don't ring a bell from the forums :)

This is why I hope someone will suddenly be nice and buy me a 290x or Titan. :p
    seriously, imagine a 8x water cooled Titan rig with 4 e7 4880s. *.*

Put my 5850 in today to have it going 24/7. Happy now? I NO JOKE PLS
On a good day it'll usually pull 30K ppd. For a 5yr old gpu that ain't too shabby.
Dat idle on 7950. Ech, 5850 y u so hot and bothered.
