Still searching for a solution, if anybody else finds one please let me know. Thinking I might try the windows version via WINE but not too sure how that might work. But for the time being I am messing about with some old logitech speakers I found in a box in my closet. Might grab a picture of this ghetto ass 8 speaker surround setup I've got going.

Stalker. :D What was that; a 2 minute reply? Anyways, good to know.
I still havent bought a card. With maxwell 28nm possibly right around the corner, I am temped to wait; but on the other hand I have a brand new dual-x 280x available for $310.

We're at 900wu! In less than a month we should hit 1000wu!

Derp, Maxwell isn't coming out on the 28nm node, its set to be 20nm. And its going to be a good while until TSMC gets 20nm production for big chips up and running, they've barely just started on their SoC's for Apple's new iPhone. I would go for the 280X. Reason being, if we all just keep waiting for the 'next best thing' by the time that comes around there will already be another thing even better in the works and you'll never get anywhere. Besides, I run a 7970 as my main gpu when not crossfire and at 1080p I still have yet to find anything I can't play. Just go for it. :) EDIT: also did have the rig folding for once again, I just installed winblows 7 on an extra hard drive I had. It was going overnight by I got ninja restarted by windows update . Try again this afternoon.

Glad to hear you are folding again! :D

However, maxwell is going to be part 28nm and part 20nm. The low end parts are launching soon @ 28 with either big maxwell or higher end parts launching late this year/early next at 20nm. Speculation is going around that the gtx 750 and 750ti are maxwell.M, not pure maxwell. The 750ti launching at $110 with double the DP of Kepler/$, and fitting that into a <75w package will draw low power miners to them, might bring down amd prices.

At any rate I really don't care what Nvidia's doing at this point because I have well enough gpu power to last me a while. :p I do hope retailers feel they've made their money off miners and lower their prices back down so the average consumer can not be gouged so much. I really wish they would so I could possibly grab a 290 but whatever. edit: I was more or less talking about the maxwell chips that you would actually care about, the high end ones, low end chips are almost always last gen's tech.

In the last 4 hours someone brought us up 10 teams and folded 1/2 of our weekly average. Glad to see HEMI is back. ;)

Still not entirely running smooth. Only hitting around 200K PPD. I might spin up my i7, but I am not sure I want my powersupply under the strain of 2 gpus and a cpu for that long. System power draw with the 2 gpus running full speed and all the other bits and bobs is pulling around 535-565w after calculating efficiency. My power supply can provide up to 636w on the 12V rail being a good quality Seasonic unit. I'll have to think about this..

While good units can easily run ~1/8 over spec I wouldn't. Even 560w is kinda eh. Might want to watch the draw. If you see a 20w increase that might be the PSU getting tired.

560w is fine wattage to run 24/7 on this supply, if it was somewhere like 620w I'd be a bit more worried. Folks on overclock.net have been running the same psu in similar rigs doing loads of folding without fail yet so it doesn't bother me too much. Not to mention it has a 7-year warranty in case it does fail. It can run with the i7 being that it has more than enough juice, its just if I want that heat in my rig or not. CPU is warm enough as it is with all the heat from the gpus exhausting up through the radiator and the back.

i'm surprised you don't have a dedi folding machine. One like the old bitcoin mining rigs. Find an old p4/pd/c2d/any board with pci-e and ram all your gpu's in

I've seen that even old bloomfield xeons in a 2p server can easily get 20k ppd. If anyone has old parts it still makes a difference!

Don't really want to do that. I use this for everything day-day. Its not just for folding. ;)

Just removed 7970 from system to put it in machine for my bro. Will still be folding on my 7950, about half the PPD.
