Luckily for you my client crashed. Around 100k ppd gone, or an actual 60k. I'm coming to get all of you though.
I've got the Chrome FaH app running on about 3 computers at school. My WUs and points have been going up steadily
The numerous now abandoned computer labs at my school have core i3s in them. I wonder if I could fold on them. There are >30 computers per lab and there are probably about 4 labs.
CPU folding is many orders of magnitude slower than GPU folding. So it's best if you can find PCs with compatible graphics cards.
They've probably got some shitty integrated graphics. But I'd still like to do it, just to see what happened.
Most of 'em have Core 2 Duos and Intel graphics. They can play Halo CE okay, and Minecraft on lowest with Optifine okay. Can't fold on Intel graphics so.. There is a computer lab with i7s and high end Quadros but I won't be in a class with them until next year. Besides, all the kids have accounts with no permissions to install programs so I have to use the Chrome FaH app which I believe only does CPU folding. - - - Updated - - - Couldn't hurt. Only problem is that you'd have to keep putting in your code and team number and all that. (I have them saved in a Drive document.) EDIT: Do I get one of those signature pictures for my massive number of WUs?
I just got my FX-8320 in the mail and installed it! It's been folding for ~20 minutes and is at a steady 36°C. It is advertised as 3.5GHz, but Speccy and CPU-Z are both reading 3725 MHz (not that I'm complaining). I'll post a pic in the group discussion.
If you aren't scared of tech you could easilly get that chip to at least 4.4Ghz, maybe 4.7Ghz. Some lucky people with water cooling even managed 5Ghz+. I'll get to it. EDIT: I was going to create a google account to use the F@H app, but someone already has bubbleawsome@gmail.com.
I've never messed with overclocking before, but I might try. So far performance in BeamNG is spectacular. I'm getting pretty similar FPS due to my 7770, but I can see and feel a MASSIVE difference in the Physics. The physics are running super smoothly. I don't lag spike when I crash, the car feels 10x more responsive, etc.... Overall, I am really happy with this CPU. Now I just need that 280x to drop in price or Imma have to suck it up and switch to nvidia.
You might want to go for faster ram if you are at 1066 speeds. I'm not betting on 280x's coming down anytime in the next 6 months, but the GTX 770 is a great card. Just has half the compute speed of the 280x.
I'm hoping to get a 4770k and a new motherboard soonish... but we'll see. Not many options for my current FM2 (with sucky HP bios) motherboard.
