Yeah, kd say the 5v is probably the USB spec and 24 for motors, in which case your 6v supply won't cut it.
intel has GPUs on the chip as far as i know. As for AMD i have an older AMD cpu that doesn't have an integrated GPU, however the motherboard itself has an integrated GPU, which is what i use on that computer since i removed the geforce 8400gs that was in there --oops that conversation is kinda buried by now........
I only have hours now. :'( If I had been able to fold for my last days I would have been honored. I expect to get passed a lot in the coming week/month as I will not have a computer to fold with. Once I'm back up I'll have either the 4670k or Haswell refresh equivalent. (4690k/5670k are rumors.) We've also got a good many folders going right now, it's pretty amazing. 17m total points with ~4m being in the past 3 weeks! 3,600 wus too! Great crunching guys! (I need to re-issue badges.)
I've been wanting to buy myself something like a Radeon 7870 for awhile. That way I could have that Radeon, the 6550D APU, and (If I don't sell it) my 650ti all going at once. Today I mowed the first lawn of the year. Made 30 bucks. That 30 dollars went towards ordering a new screen for the EeePC 1005HA I got yesterday at a tag sale. It came in the original box with all the stuff and the only problem is a cracked screen. (Most of it still visible, just a big crack up the middle bottom part) It's pretty similar to the NB255 netbook I have (I got it at a different tag sale, fixed it up, then smashed it when I was really angry. Broke the screen and HDD.) except a bit older. I installed XP and set it up. The Atom CPU in the EeePC is about the same performance but it uses about half the power but it only supports 32 bit. But since it's a bit older it is overclockable. I did a heatsink mod (The CPU uses so little power that it doesn't really have a heatsink. It's cooled by the plate behind the keyboard.) and so far I've gotten it to 2.1GHz from the 1.6GHz stock. The Intel GPU (GMA 945) works with GMABooster which is also a plus. And it has a bigger battery. So the screen should arrive by Thursday. As for the NB255-N250 I want to install an OS on it with an SD card or a flash drive. The issue is that with XP it doesn't let me install onto either of those without a working HDD that it can write boot information onto. (Or something like that.) I don't have any extra working SATA laptop drives but I'm thinking that maybe I could just temporarily use one of the drives from my main laptop. I want to set up a small Minecraft server with it. (I could just use my old computer but it's loud and uses a lot more power.) Or I could see if I can get a Windows 7 Starter and install it using the Win 7 Starter key on the sticker. I had Win 7 Ultimate on it for awhile but it was really slow with only 1GB of RAM since it had to use the pagefile a lot.
We are so close to breaking 20 millions points! This is crazy. Everybody is doing a great job folding.
Well, I got my PC to boot. New specs are i5 4670k with 8GB RAM, GTX 770, and the 550w PSU. Don't know the clocks on the 4670k yet. Default voltage seems to be a little lower than average at 1.14v. Problem now is that I have no internet on it and it will not take drivers from usb sticks. Bother that the WiFi card and the built in ethernet do not connect to my network. EDIT: WE ALSO BROKE 20M POINTS!!! WOOP!
what? it needs a driver for the usb built into the motherboard? wow... I guess use a cd? lol. Or just put the file directly onto the hard drive from another pc if you have one
A few days ago I got the screen and it's working just fine dualbooting XP/7 starter. I also got the HDD to the NB255 and that's working fine hooked up to my old screen. So yay. I still have not found out just how far I can push the little 2.5W Atom. It seems to be stable at 2GHz. In other news I made 70 bucks mowing yesterday and I'm thinking of buying something like a Radeon 7870. Stil unsure whether or not I should sell my 650ti if I do get another GPU.
I got it up, and it is faster than ever before. #awe Now to dial in the 4670k. > - - - Updated - - - Guys, my hdd just died. Not kidding. %#$&
You had a backup.... right? Putting it in the freezer could help it work, temporarily. How is it not working? A head crash? Or something else?
