Whatever you do, don't buy Norton antivirus, it makes your computer slow as shiet. Download Malwarebytes for free and run it every week or so.
well, personally, when my mom installed norton on my pc (we got xfinity, a free subscription to norton comes with it) i actually got it uninstalled quite easily, just opened the control panel, and uninstalled (i think, either that, or i didnt even bother with it, and just downloaded syntech's norton remover tool software thingy, idk, ive cleaned out my downloads folder scince then , of course, i still had to restart my pc, so that windows detected that norton was gone, and enabled Windows Defender))))))) but @op Micorosoft Security Essentials in combo with Malwarebytes anti-malware is your best bet if you dont trust anyone in your family, or yourself to not accidently download a virus (or, if you insist on paying for an anti-virus, ESET in combo with malwarebytes anti-malware)
I've had issues with it leaving files behind and registry entries too. But you can get rid of those at least.
lol, i let ccleaner mess with cleaning my registry, and i clean out program files right after i uninstall anything (most of the time though, i dont feel like waiting for uninstaller's, so ill just manually delete folder's, which is where ccleaner comes in, and cleans the registry, and removes the program from the control panel program list
I have a new PC, and it has TITANIUM internet security. it does a green check next to safe sites, and a red X next to unsafe sites. it also warns you and tries to stop you from going onto unsafe sites. it saved me TONS of times, and you can get it to work on any browser. you have to let it verify itself on the internet every month, and it still works if you dont verify it. i love it, i recommend you get it, because mine came with it.
Look at reviews, its absolutely terrible. In independent testing in 2006 it picked up on just 5% of common worms and 7% backdoor attacks. Tested again in 2007 it boosted its score significantly but still got the lowest of any commercial antivirus (and also beaten by most free ones) at 82%. It has actually failed certification on several occasions. The system trend micro use to insert that lovely little green check or red X actually breaks HTTPS security for several websites leaving users vulnerable to attacks not to mention being of highly dubious legality.
Avast, hands down. Been using it forever and never had problems. Though I am no idiot when it comes to downloading stuff, used my PC for two years without an anti-virus, installed Avast, scanned: had not one virus. (If you buy Avast you get all the internet security extras)
Dont use mcaffe ... u will never get rid of it... i use avira and avast ... but avira is mostly offline tho to is stupid autoupdates that kik me out of games .... 10 PRINT "TALKPAD" : GOTO 10
Avoid McAfee and Norton at all costs, they're terrible, especially considering you have to pay for them. Malwarebytes and MSE (otherwise known as Windows Defender) are the best.
actually, avg is one of the bad ones as well (not as bad as macaffe and norton, but still bad) MSE(Windows Defender in windows 8) and malwarebytes anti-malware are the best
while hogging all your CPU time, breaking HTTPS protection and being nearly impossible to install without tools like CCleaner, even Mcafee's own uninstall program doesnt get rid of it properly. At least when it isn't hogging CPU time or bandwidth it is a functional antivirus though which is more than can be said for some software, but it isn't free and there is alot of free software which is better. Most web browsers have built in website protection far more effective than mcafee's anyway. Relevant:
how long should avast take to setup as it got 95% of the way and now the progress bar isnt moving. any help? it gets to aswRunDII then stops
