My father and i are looking for an easy rest or maybe a survivor car to bond over. what kind of cars should i look for?
I would recommend these: American: Foxbody Mustang Mustang Mach 1 1st gen Camaro Japanese: Nissan 180SX/240SX/Silvia S13 Honda Civic EK9 Toyota Supra III German: Golf IV Volkswagen Caddy
try an old station wagon. they are around, they are cheap cause no wants them and you can make something special with it.
First and foremost you should get something that you like, there's not much point restoring a car you have no interest in. That said, from a realistic standpoint you should get a car which doesn't require any major repairs that demand experience. A quick list of things I can think of: Rust - while it can be repaired, doing so is a very delicate and time consuming task, not something you want for your first project. You will make life much easier by getting a rust-free base to work with. Complete car - Make sure the car is complete and not missing too many parts. Once again, it will make life much easier starting with a complete car rather than trying to piece one together from bits and pieces all over. Availability of parts - Make sure you can source any parts you may need, a car which is common or that parts are readily available for would make life easier for you.
a first gen camaro is like 7k for a body so.. maybe a third gen firebird/camaro they are old enough that they need work but new enough to buy and fix for cheap and did I mention the largest engine gets at least 20 mpg if you dont romp on it
C4 Corvettes are dime a dozen at the moment, and no one cares what you do with it. But if something to care about, maybe go with something a little obscure but you can still find parts for it Maybe a Ford Maverick/ Mercury Capri, an old pick up, 280Z, Plymouth Dusters are always cheap, Foxbody Mustangs or 80's Firebird But really a Project is meant to be YOURS, and it's really what you can find in your area.
thanks man. --- Post updated --- a guy near me got a 70 duster that sittin in a barn... possibilities....
If it doesn't have too much rust and the guys willing to sell it'd be a perfect project, especially if it's a 340 car
Like he said Dusters/Demons are good starting point for a project. You also can get a clean Imperial for dirt cheap, first gen and third gen Chargers are also cheap, you also have the73-74 Challangers, 63-67 Impalas, Novas, Valiants/Darts, MKIII Supras, Chrysler Conquests, AMCs, and some of the 80-90's cars are worth restoring. lowers trim B-body Mopars (Satellites, Coronets...) can also be very cheap, there's a '68 Sport Satellite for 8500$ on Craigslist right now. If you look hard enough you can find desirable cars that are cheap.
A 90s 4runner. Back then, they were built to off-road, so pick one up for 10 grand and turn it into the best off-road vehicle.
The thing I'll disagree with you there would be that the Chargers and the Challengers are not cheap, just had a look, and a bucket 66 Charger is $10k, and parts for those aren't cheap. If you're really on a budget, 70's-80's trucks are really dirt cheap, a good one us about $4000. a third gen Camaro/firebird are a dime a dozen. Or if your lucky you can find an Opel GT, their cheap but rare, but also a great project.
