There's not too much to show in the way of progress today since most of the changes are more fine details. I am focusing on completing the hill climb and the road leading to it for the next update. There will be a time trial that will run from the entrance to UMC to the top of the hill climb.

    To do before next upload:
    • Add lanes to the road
    • Finish edging (on the roads)
    • Add more decoration to the hill climb area
    • Add decoration to the road leading to the hill climb.
    • Add the time trial
    • Fix the steep crawling area
The above isn't all I will be doing as I will be moving between this and other areas as I brainstorm potential changes and additions.

Here is a pic of a portion of the changes:

Here is the path of the time trial. It is fairly short (about 1 minute long):
    screenshot_2023-06-22_11-03-01.png

All of the tan areas on this image are places steep enough to warrant rock placement, which I will be adding as each of those areas get attention. I plan on following how I did the first upload for each upload: Complete one area and have minor, but functional changes to the rest. So I will be uploading a new version each time I finish a section of the map and at least 1 course.

Again not much in the way of obvious changes. I mostly reworked map group organization and redid the large cliff face again. I also finished up the edging, fixed the large hill climb, added more rocks to the hills, touched up the trails a bit, and started working on a bridge to cross the small pond.

The bridge. It still needs the girders and the railing textured properly and the collision mesh made, but I like it so far.

The entire offroad trail leading to the top. Tiny Mike's Comfy Sedan for scale. I wanted to take a pic of the backyard kart on it, but forgot to make the collision mesh first.

Some of the steeper areas got some cliff rocks
    screenshot_2023-06-23_16-22-35.png

I redid this area because the cut terrain caused visual glitches
    screenshot_2023-06-23_16-25-54.png

Guardrails look a bit jank, but I plan on making better looking ones.

And here is an overview of the entire area

Got a bit more work done. The bridge took a lot longer than I expected, but I think it was worth the effort. I decided to make each of the guardrails into their own singular meshes instead of using the spline tool and it looks much better now. I still need to do the other two guardrails and work on minor details before I will consider this area done. I am also putting some touches on the road from UMC to the hill climb since there will be a time trial in the next update using that road. The next upload should be fairly soon as I just need to put in some finishing touches on the hill and clean up the road a bit. If all goes well, I hope to have it up by this weekend.

The finished bridge. It's a little close to the water.

The new guardrail setup. I changed my workflow for this map when doing this. Previously, since the maps were fairly small, I would not include the lod meshes since they made the process longer, but this map is going to be very complex, so I took the time to do it right this time.
    screenshot_2023-06-26_12-48-20.png screenshot_2023-06-26_13-14-38.png

I also added a new bridge template to the stunt jump area and extended it slightly. The speed that is carried through this section since the first bridge was added is high enough that you completely miss the slope and land on the flat area just past it, so I put this in to soften the landing and make it safer.
    screenshot_2023-06-26_11-56-31.png screenshot_2023-06-26_11-56-36.png

Lastly, this is a look at how I plan on marking the roads. I need to do road edge lines, but the triangle is the material I plan on using for the road edges.

I have the hill climb area in a state that I will consider completed for now. Before I upload the next update, I want to first finish the road to the hill climb as well as set up the time trial. The road leading to the hill climb will not be in its final state as the area surrounding the road will be mostly undecorated until I finish the courses themselves. I want to see how the courses look from the outside and how their completion will affect the available space before I focus on completing the in-between roads.

This update will have very minimal changes to all areas but the cliffs. The reason is that I would like some feedback on the performance of the hill climb area so I know about how much I can do with each custom track. This will be the most complex map I have made so far, so I want to tackle performance issues before I finish it unlike with the original kartland. The system I have isn't top-of-the-line by any means, but I do not see any issues so far. However, that does not mean that this will be the case for everyone and I want to make this as accessible as possible.

The IRL courses will still have detailed decoration that approximately matches what you would see at those courses minus the buildings unless they are very simple or I can find similar-looking buildings in the vanilla files.

A couple of shots before and after the first hairpin. Bushes really did a lot more for the general feel than I thought they would

Love the progress. The foliage really takes it to the next level. I'll try it out this afternoon and let you know how it runs on my mid tier computer.

Back again with another small-ish update on the progress. I have most of the road markings done for the umc to hill climb road and am now working on some finishing touches to make it more interesting to drive as well as flesh it out a bit. I will be uploading this update on Friday so I can give myself a bit more time to make sure everything works and it isn't rushed.

Here are a few pics of the changes since the last post:

This is the exit from UMC. I added these barriers to make it look more like the path was cut from the hill
    screenshot_2023-06-28_10-06-43.png

These intersections are getting interesting. The only roads that will be marked in Friday's upload will be those relevant to the hill climb and the road leading to it.
    screenshot_2023-06-28_10-06-48.png screenshot_2023-06-28_10-07-02.png
Added a few more rocks to some of the cliff-like areas
    screenshot_2023-06-28_10-07-17.png screenshot_2023-06-28_10-13-58.png

These template bridges will be in the upload as well as I have yet to decide on how I want them to actually look. If you try it out, please let me know if it is too difficult. I am able to get through this without damage, but then again I basically lived on the backyard kart for a year.

Aaaaand update is uploaded! I managed to finish the road markings earlier than expected, so I figured I'd get it up here. It is located on the op.

hey, just wanted to ask and see if this mod is extinct or not. I'd be interested in giving it a little more polish if you're not gonna touch it anymore. Otherwise let me know, I'd respect it if you'd like me to keep my hands off.

    PS: love your work

At this point, I just don't have the time to dedicate to it. I would absolutely love if it could be updated! After I completed the hill climb hill and the UMC course, I felt like I completed two entire maps and it kind of burnt me out lol. If anyone wants to contribute, I would be glad to accept the help!
