You need to download the zip file located in the "Releases" page named "blender_jbeam_editor_0.2.3.zip"
What am I doing wrong? This was working just fine one day & the next everything went fubar. Every time I try to move a jbeam object it never ends up where I put it, it gets put in a random location with random rotation values (when rotated).
That's kinda like one of the problems with the decal editor. If it's like the decal editor at all, that means you will just have to make sure it is perfect on the first try. But with Jbeaming that is nearly impossible
Hmm I see the bug when I rotate it in "Object Mode" and do further translations or rotations. But rotating in "Edit Mode" seems to work without issue for me.
Tried that, sort of worked (after a lot of undo/redo crap), then as soon as I put it back into Object Mode to set the translations it goes fubar again. As soon as I hit CTRL+A everything flips back to their previous position. After I undo it it goes back but the green box stays in the previous location & everything will be back there if I reload the jbeams. --- Post updated --- Every time I click on a jbeam in the side menu it all jumps back & forth, this is driving me nuts. --- Post updated --- Blender 4.1.1 Plugin 0.2.3 Reinstalled, still fubar. --- Post updated --- Even tried an older version of Blender, no luck, things just jump to random places. I'm done, I have enough going on without stressing myself trying to figure out a problem that shouldn't exist to begin with. Cool idea, really cool, just needs more bugs worked out.
If you rotate in Object mode you'll need to apply rotation values (same for scales and Transforms), since you're also moving the pivot etc, in edit mode no need to do this has you're only rotating the verts/edges/faces without affecting the pivot point of said object. (Hope that makes sense, just woke up)
Does anyone know why the importer does not work on one specific blender file? it works with the cube but not my current project
An update has been released that fixes a couple of bugs (sorry I still don't have much time nowadays to work on this more): https://github.com/BeamNG/Blender-JBeam-Editor/releases/tag/v0.2.4
Thank you for your hard work, this tool helps a lot already! For some reason after this latest update previously imported jbeam objects are no longer recognized as jbeam structures in a saved file. Deleting and reimporting those objects fixes it though. I've been using this editor quite frequently in the last couple of weeks, I found only 2 minor inconveniences. The first is about the redo-system, which doesn't seem to work for the very first occasion after I opened up a saved project file. The other one is a bit more frustrating, the duplicated vertices caused by adding triangles which makes selecting and moving them a bit complicated.
Hmm strange that you can't use the previous project, and I thought I fixed that bug with the undo/redo system... About the triangles, on my end I can move vertices connected to triangles fine. How does it look on your end?
It creates multiple vertices in the same location once I add a triangle. (+1 "layer" with every triangle using that node/vertex)
Yeah that's expected to happen, but you should still be able to move a node by moving one of the vertices.
Nothing deal-breaker, only a little frustrating while using click-select, which method lets you select and move vertices that does not belong to the jbeam structure. (not updating the green wireframe) Box, lasso or circle select works fine, it just feels weird working with phantom vertices.
Interesting because for me with click-select from what I've seen, I can only select vertices that do move the jbeam structure. Does it happen only with certain nodes?
It only happens with my complex saved blender project files, even after I reimport the jbeams into it...weird. Sorry for wasting your time!
Seriously, am I the only one having issues with this? I can't move anything, edit more or otherwise. It moves but jerks around to other positions & even if I can manage to get it to get near where I want it doesn't do jack when I export it.
Hmm, do you get any errors in the System Console (Window > Toggle System Console)? Also I've seen that removing the plugin and installing it back can resolve issues, because I've seen issues with updating the plugin where installing on top of the existing version can cause issues. And don't forget to restart Blender after reinstalling it.
