well for you americans its the 1988 jeep cherokee thats reliable and cheap in europe suvs are expensive in the UK i don´t know if the LR Classic is cheap or not. OT:

 

The Defender is my favourite.

i know in germany you can get a cherokee 4.0 from 2000€ to 4000€ (prices from mobile.de)

Oh the irony, the Land Rover Classic is a expensive toilet paper compared to its older brethren, which are insanely well built and the YJ Wrangler can wipe it's ass with a Land Rover.

I got a chance to ride one of these and i got bored as hell, not even the power got me excited.

Other than that, the newer one has more interesting values than this. Atleast you agree about it being off-note.
