As if the police wouldn't have enough crashes on its neck that it does itself. At least if that clichee about American police is true. But really, being crashed by criminals who just want to be nice and try to wreck your car so you never ever have to drive it again? That would be very weird.

Any chance we'll get a beater variant of this one, similar to the Covet's?

I bet this is FWD rather than RWD, cuz most Mid size-full size American 80s cars were. Other than the LTD,crown Victoria. Sorry kind of random... Basicly a lebaron

I can imagine that going 55km/h down an 80km/h road, sirens blaring, in the overtaking lane.

Because it's a weak, V6, fwd luxobarge. Somewhat contradictory of being a luxobarge, it's probably also not very roomy inside.
This thing wouldn't hold up a week in police use.
Police cars in the 80s were pretty much all LTDs or Caprices with some Diplomats sprinkled in. Rightfully so, too.

...while over here (speaking ot today, don't wonder) the policemen are satisfied with VW Passats and only some BMW 5-Series. Could be because they crash less (that's European prejudicement of Americans).

I'm guessing so. Apparently, 80% of the police cars in the UK are Vauxhalls.
