Okay, so, I got screwed. I built my amazing new PC, and now all the RX 4XX/5XX cards are out of stock, thanks to the damn miners. I've been playing games on the integrated GPU. Integrated!

I'd like to buy a cheap-ish GPU. I'm okay with not having the latest and greatest, I'm only at 1080p anyways.

Some things I were looking at on ebay were:

    HD 7870
    R9 280
    GTX 770
    GTX 960

Will these be okay options for me? Will the older cards cause software/incompatibility issues? My specs are in my sig.

    Cheers, Nolo

now, lesson 1: NEVER BUY GRAPHICS CARDS ON EBAY IF THE SELLER SENDS IT BY POST!!!!!!!!! i fell in this hole with a nvidia card, it glitched out every 5 minutes and it could not even run minecraft.... minecraft? biggest waste of 40 quid ever.

first what is your hardware as that will also determine how good a card you should get

lesson 2. what is your price range? if it £1- £10, you have little or no chance to run this game.

£11 - £30 maybe 2fps with a traffic cone on the grid small pure map. pretty crap if you ask me. but minecraft may run at around 10 fps. if that is the case, continue to use the integrated. the intel core i3 530 can run the game at 15fps with its integrated graphics.

£31 - £60 here is the area to go to if you are on a tight budget, a nvidia gt730 like i had, will do the job, but will run at about 20fps at highest settings and 35 at lowest. i would stay clear of this card really for this game, but it will run it.

£61 - £80 this is also a good price range, will run the game at around 40fps, this is where i would go if i was on a budget.

£100+ my graphics card, which is an rx 460 2gb 0c edition by asus , runs this game brilliantly. paired with my 12 gb of ddr3 ram clocked at 1333Mhz and fx 6300 clocked at 3.5ghz. my pc will run up to 6 t-series' at 40 fps and 10 at around 11 fps. any other time it will run at 50 to 60 fps.

£1000+ will run the minecraft at 0.1 fps and will only run windows in safe mode.

i strongly advise you get your new card from either tesco direct or similar or amazon, ebay if it is on collection only. in the long run however, it will probably be more expensive on ebay as t will not last as long.

Or you can ensure that the hardware is packaged properly, because you could get DOAs through any currier.

Thanks for the ebay tip. I'm not sure what to think about the rest as what you are describing with your RX 460 is about how I'm doing with my i5-6600k's iGPU on low-med settings.

The reason for this post is that (example) the GTX 770 is better performing and costs less than the RX 460, so I want to get it. However, I am concerned about possible conflicts or incompatibilities(DX12?).

It's a shame really with this mining stuff since AMD cards are better because of freesync opportunities and the other amd stuff (like Radeon Chill) in my opinion... But are more expensive due to the demand, if I'm honest it isn't as crazy as before like on Amazon an RX 580 8G is £300~ which isn't much higher than the usual UK price of £250.. Use CamelCamelCamel to check price history.

With my i5-6600k at 4.6GHz now, and my 8gb of DDR4 at 3400MHz, I get 40-50 fps with four cars spawned. 30-40fps with 6-8 cars spawned.

You've got a laptop so no. 99.9% of laptops don't have interchangeable graphics

I was joking. In case you didn't notice. And actually most business grade laptops 1.(Are beefier 2.( Are better built 3.( Are designed for the components to be swapped out multiple times over the course of its lifetime. My dad's laptop, at the end of its lifetime had 16 gigs of RAM, ~4GHz, 4 gigs of graphical memory, 3TB of HDD storage, and a battery life allowing for 10 hours of continual use. None of the components were stock. And I am pretty sure that business grade laptops are more than 0.1% of all laptops. So you are saying? BTW, I know that that physically wouldn't fit in most laptops.

Funny that as currently dell, hp and Lenovo hold the majority of the business laptop market. Most business laptops, don't have dedicated graphics at all. And while dell and Lenovo have a few socketed CPUs (in a minority of systems), they all use soldered GPUs in all models. Ram and drives are upgradeable in most laptops. There's like 5 gaming machines on the market with interchangeable cards currently, and that number will only go down.

Meanwhile, tech support continues buying and retrofitting older laptops, because everybody likes 1.(Windows 7 2.(Older laptops. Also, thicker laptops have more usable space on the inside once you fit better components.

BTW, my dad's previous laptop was a Dell, his current is a Lenovo Carbon X1. It has no space to upgrade, but it comes with pretty good performance.

I use a GTX 660, the game runs good with 3 cars, starts lagging at 4-6, and 9 is way too much. So i recommend that!
