Re: Canyon Yep it is. I prefer GoldSource to Source, because Source it's just a mess ! I'm a mapper too ! And, soon, wiil try to make a campaign for Sven-Coop ! You've made a good map ! Especially for offroading ! And it seems huge ! Keep up the good work !
Re: Canyon Looks like a good map. A suggestion for avoiding the void and invisible walls, you could have a slight descending slope, then a steep wall that you can't climb. This way it doesn't appear that you're surrounded by mountains until you get the the edge of the map, kind of like a moat.
Re: Canyon A good suggestion but it doesn't really get around the bit where the map visibly just ends into a void rather than being hidden behind a mountain range, unless I'm missing something.
Re: Canyon Maybe rolling hills and heavy vegetation? Rolling hills and boulders that make it extremely difficult/impossible to navigate beyond the terrain? A combination of the two?
Re: Canyon I'm not sure. I think what's currently there in the released version works well and blends in with the rest of the map from a ground perspective. I don't notice it driving around anyway, but that could just be me. Thanks though.
Re: Canyon Those sorts of artificial barriers always drove me nuts (even the "nice" ones where they're too steep to climb). If I want to drive off the edge of the created world, then let me do as I please. No need to attempt to keep me from doing it.
Re: Canyon A good way to finish the edges would be to give an illusion of taller mountains by creating peaks, at which no one can actually drive up(too steep). That makes it not just drop off. Actually go up, and just barely start to fall back down on the other side on the unseen wall of the map. - - - Updated - - - A good way to finish the edges would be to give an illusion of taller mountains by creating peaks, at which no one can actually drive up(too steep). Re: Canyon It already has that, but I didn't enforce it completely, so you can still climb up bits if you're willing enough. I only had it there to deter people who don't actually want to end up off the side of the map from accidentally ending up there.
Re: Canyon What about a ha-ha? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ha-ha Towards the edge of the map it slopes down gradually. Then it has a wall straight up to the original height (or in this case slightly lower than original might look best). From a distance it appears as if there is no trench at all. Go into the trench and you are presented with a wall impossible to climb over. If the wall is slightly lower than the ground height and the ground carries on with a few more hills beyond it might look best (due to higher camera elevation in a game than you would have with the human eye while walking or driving).
Re: Canyon You'd still have the problem of being able to see into the void, and there's nothing I could really do about that.
Re: Canyon Hey things happend can i use it to make my Rage map? It would help me so much because i could just add some dirt roads textures and a entrance to the destroyed city with a bunch of highways around the map! i would change it alot but it would help me so much!!!
Re: Canyon I knew someone would take my canyon idea once I didn't get to finish it ahah nice job though
Re: Canyon Haha. If it makes any difference, I didn't see your thread until I was done with this map. I'm afraid not, I've not really got any time for level editing as it is - which is why I've only made 2 releases. I want to do more, but I can't.
