I'm pretty excited for the career mode to release. Here are some ideas I have for it: 1. Purchasing/selling cars Obviously, I have no idea what the devs plan the career mode to actually do, but I assume it's going to be kinda like an infinite campaign (if that makes sense), and you need to get a car somehow. Being able to buy and sell cars would add a full purpose to the value of cars. So, if you want a new car, you go to a dealership and get it using the money you got from doing missions (again, assuming that's how it'll work). And if you don't want a particular car anymore, you can sell it. For the selling part to really work, the car's value should change the more you delete or add things, so if and when you sell it, it sells for the price of the car itself and added parts or it'll sell for less if you removed parts. 2. Career select (kinda unsure on this one) This will give you the option to choose between careers (that involve driving) like delivery, test driving vehicles for a company, legal and illegal street racing, motorsport driver (Circuit, rally, drag, etc.), or maybe even a police officer. 3. Owning a house or something like that This may be pointless for the type of game Beam is, but it would be cool. You can purchase a house where you go to store cars and view them all in one garage. You can upgrade them, paint them, or just look at them (kinda like a GTA garage mixed with Forzavista). This is all stuff you can do in the vehicle config menus, but it'll be slightly more realistic this way and a quality-of-life feature. That's all I really have. These probably weren't the most creative of ideas, but they're just ideas.
I posted some of the official comments for career mode plans the other day. Update Speculation thread TLDR; Points 1 and 2 are already planned in some way or another, point 3 would be weird to implement in GTA/TDU style, probably could be done Forza style (as far as I understand it, I never played any of those games) but there isn't really a point to it.
I have a idea for a "story" for the campaign mode, or at least for a kind of prologue: This could take place a few months - a year after the events of the "A Rocky Start" Campaign, where after working around town, doing odd jobs, winning street races, and other things in your character's father's D-series, you've saved up enough money to finally purchase a car for yourself. After heading down to Anna's (The Mechanic from A Rocky Start) shop, you have the option to buy one of three or four Jalopy's off her, let's say a LeGran Wagon, I6 Moonhawk, a Covet DX, and maybe even the option to buy your father's D15 off of him. After buying your car, you have the option to do more events around Utah, (More races, deliveries, challenges, etc,) until you get enough cash in order to afford to move to the East Coast, just like your friend. After moving to the East Coast, you can now have the ability to pursue what kind of career you want, (Street Racer, Police Officer, Trucker, etc,) while also having the ability to do odd jobs for a bit more cash, (Taxi driving, more challenges and races, etc) and purchase a garage so you have the ability to buy more cars, be able to modify cars, and if you play your cards right, have the ability to go to new places (West Coast, Italy, Germany, even going back to Utah, etc) depending on what career path you choose to take. [I am well aware this thread is almost two years old, I just wanted to write this down for fun.]
I was bored, so I decided to make a template on how buying cars in the Beamng Career mode could be: When you pull into a dealership, you could possibly get a small cutscene or just a text box featuring the owner of the dealership welcoming you in, I'll just write one cause I want to: [As an example, I'll write one for the new used car dealership in East Coast, USA.] "Hello, welcome to the Firwood Motor Company, my name's David Thompson. Looking for a new ride? Well you're in luck, cause I got plenty of rides that ride like new and are easy on your wallet! They may not look the best, but I can assure you that I have not, and will not ever sell a car that doesn't run like a champ, and that's a guarantee. Also, I got a buddy of mine who runs a body shop a few blocks down the road, his name's Paul, great guy, you'd like him. Anyways, if you got the money, you can take your ride over to him and he can make any car look like it just rolled off the assembly line. So, care to take a look around?" Afterwards, you can take a look around the lot to see what cars are for sale. Certain cars will be in the lot longer then others, and the cars that stick around usually have a much cheaper price then anything else on the lot. Cars that just got in or are relatively new are usually the most expensive. Eventually some cars will be sold and replaced with a different one, so if nothing in that dealership catches your eye, just leave and come back in a few in game days - weeks, and plenty of different cars will be there. You have two options when looking at the cars; Buy and Test Drive. Buying a car is self explanatory. Test Driving a car allows you to follow a set of checkpoints throughout the town. Stray to far from the course or crash the car, the test drive automatically ends and you are brought back to the dealership. Don't worry about crashing the car, once you're back to the dealership, the car is automatically repaired at no cost. After buying a car, you have the option to either drive it off the lot yourself, or have it shipped to a garage you own, but of course, you'll need a garage for that second option, or to own more then one car. I made visual representations for what this could look like: [I know they look terrible, there just screenshots I edited in MS Paint]
I for one really hope that there will be cops going around when you’re not doing a mission, along with normal traffic. Also, if there are working cops in career mode, maybe you could actually have to pay when you get pulled over. That would add a nice level of realism.
Yeah, I can definitely see some similarities. Games looks pretty fun too, I'll probably buy it once I get some extra cash.
Just came up with an idea for a collectable for Career mode; Stunt Jumps Hidden around every map is at least one special jump that upon a successful landing gives you a special Polaroid/screenshot/etc that can be added to some sort of scrapbook or checklist. A possible enticing reward for completing every jump in the map could be a unique variant of a vehicle that's specifically made for landing jumps or just having fun with during freeroam, possibly even given to the player by a unique character on the map. I imagine the interaction with one of said hypothetical characters could go something like this: Location: East Coast, USA "Hey there, kid. Name's Dane Leach, use to be called 'Dynamite Dane' long before you were probably born. A good buddy of mind runs a car dealership in town, and he told me that your driving style is rather 'unique', and that you need a ride that fits your driving style. Tell you what, back when I was still performing shows, I had some spots around town that I'd use to practice before each show. I've seen many kids pull wrecks from the junkyard, try to do some of the jumps I use to, and end up wrecking their cars after the very first one. If you can land all *insert number of jumps here* jumps the same way I did, then I'll give you my ol' stunt car. She may not seem like much, but I'll tell you that this baby's landed at least 100 jumps in her lifetime and has never failed me yet. Besides, if I don't give it to someone who's as good as me, she'll go to my grandson when I go, and all he'll do is sell it to some junkyard for a couple hundred bucks. What'd ya say?" I also imagine the reward for completing all the jumps in the East Coast during career mode could be this: 1976 - 1977 Bruckell Moonhawk V8 Sport "Dynamite Dane": A heavily modified stunt car, built for landing the biggest of jumps with ease. Modifications include ultra heavy duty suspension, a custom reinforced chassis, a heavy duty oil pan, a stunt cage, a racing bucket seat, welded doors, a bolted hood, side pipes, and a custom "Dynamite Dane" livery, with the number 1 painted on both doors and a American flag painted on the roof. Here are some crude examples of possible stunt jumps in various maps:
heres my idea for career mode. co-op. it might have to be implemented into beammp or just beamng and only on career mode idk, like it would save a good amount of time if another person is helping them, and they can give money, buy parts and give it to the main person or the person they are co-opping with. probs sounds trash idea for me but it would be cool
