    CarLink 1.6.0: GPS Update

CarLink turns a compatible BeamNavigator screen into an interactive CarPlay-style display. You can control it with the mouse from the driver camera, including clicks, dragging, music controls, and map zoom.

It shows the music playing on your Windows PC, including Spotify, browsers, and other players that provide Windows media controls. You get album art, track details, a progress bar, and playback controls on the car screen. The music itself keeps playing on your PC. CarLink does not require Spotify account linking or music files inside BeamNG.

    What's new in 1.6.0

    1. Interactive Maps and destinations. Drag and zoom the map, pick a destination from the list or tap a road, and follow a route using BeamNG's built-in navigation. Destinations are sorted by distance. A pin marks the end of the route, and BeamNG recalculates it if you go off course.

    2. A clearer map. The route updates as you drive and is easier to read at different zoom levels. Recentering is smoother, the following view shows more of the road ahead, roads are darker, and water stands out in blue. The car marker is larger, and the speed indicator is 30% bigger.

    3. Dashboard and Settings. The map and music dashboard remembers the view you last used. Clicking its map opens Maps. Settings has larger text, shorter labels, metric and imperial units, and a switch for BeamNG's 3D route markers. The empty Music screen has been redesigned.

    4. A new Windows helper. It runs in the system tray without a console window. From its menu, you can check the connection, choose whether it starts with Windows, change the BeamNG user folder, reconnect, or exit. The required .NET runtime is included.

    Requirements

CarLink works with vehicles equipped with a BeamNavigator screen. Compatibility depends on the vehicle's screen material and BeamNG version. The helper requires 64-bit Windows 10 version 1809 or later, or Windows 11. Maps and routes work without the helper. Music display and controls require the helper and a compatible Windows media session.

    Installation

    1. Download the release package from my Patreon and extract it.
    2. Run Install CarLink.bat. The installer copies the mod and installs the helper. If it cannot find your BeamNG user folder, select the folder containing `settings`.
    3. Enable CarLink in BeamNG's Mod Manager and enter a vehicle with a compatible screen. If the old interface is still showing, reload the vehicle or restart the game.

You can delete the extracted download after installation. The helper is unsigned, so Windows may show a security prompt when it first starts.

Would this work for Linux perchance?

The mod works, but the helper that reads your media won't run on Linux just yet — a Linux version is coming in the next few days.

Not yet. The 0.39 update plus some stuff on my end ate my free time. The real blocker is that I don't run Linux. The mod itself already works anywhere, it's the helper that's Windows-only (it reads the Windows media session). On Linux it would need rebuilding around MPRIS. I could write it blind, but I couldn't test it, and I don't want to ship something I've never seen run. Most of my time on the mod right now is going into mouse click support on the car screen. I recently figured out how to make it work, but I still need to generalize it to every car. Once that's done, the Linux helper is most likely what I pick up next.

Awesome! I’ve always wanted something like the one in Assetto Corsa. This one feels great, and not having to configure anything is really cool!
