I write something that might help, or maybe you know already, but someone might find this useful.

Cars in BeamNG are dots (nodes), connected with lines (beams) like this:
    upload_2018-1-29_20-51-53.png

3d shape, that model of the car is then just a clothe on top of all that to make it look like a something we recognize as a car.

You need to make that structure underneath to get working car to BeamNG, unlike in other games where you just make the model and textures, there is this additional step in BeamNG.

Beams are there to hold nodes on place, nothing else is holding a node, only the beams, so beams have to be placed geometrically correct way so that node stays in position. Car weight is sum of all the nodes, because each node has a weight, beams or models don't have a weight and you don't set car's weight anywhere, you only set weight of node and sum of all nodes is what car weights.

So when you look that mess of nodes and beams, you might get scared, but fear not, it is not that hard, but it takes a lot of time, work is slow because you have to edit each node and beam in text editor (notepad++), you can use NBEditor that comes with a game to see beams bit better (screenshot above) but as you can see even in that it is that left side text area where most of the work is done.
Also I find that Notepad++ is more reliable in editing, I often just reload file to NBEditor to have a look in 3d view, but edit in Notepad++ because from some reason sometimes NBEditor stops saving.

It might feel waste of time to do this tutorial, it even uses old hubwheels and needs updating on many aspects, but it will help with nodes and beams part and will help to understand general idea behind this nodes and beams concept.

It might be good idea to start with Pessima and start work by renaming that to something you want to call your car, if you want to upload car to Repository in a future, then you need to figure out fictional name for it. Then start modifying that car to be your new car. Model is probably one of the smaller problems as making everything else is going to be a lot more work, which some is a lot more difficult too.

If you want to learn to model, it is worth to do Blender house tutorial or two then car tutorial or few, modeling is not very difficult, modeling something that looks good takes time, because understanding poly flow etc. just takes time, eventually you learn to see shapes and poly flow, but that just takes time and lot of modeling.

So don't rush it, take your time, it will be a long project.

In that case, I recommend that you first learn bit more about vehicle making and modding, do that vehicle tutorial I linked first and then download some simple mods from the repo, like something that adds new engine and examine how they are made, then try to do your own mod of similar type for some different car.

You will need to do that to learn how modding is done, what is needed and what skills you need to learn as making whole car is a major task and you need all kind of skills for it, which you can learn by making smaller things first so you don't get overwhelmed.
