I am thoroughly impressed on that flawless dash! That's a rarity. My dash is a nightmare. Windshield's damn near mint though. If you crack that dash, paired with them extended tow mirrors, your numbers would far surpass mine, Lol. Yeah, I definitely bought the diesel Scout purely on impulse. Starting to think that Nissan diesel can't be saved though. Considering dropping a 4BT in it. (Been a dream of mine) The other 345 Scout has never failed me though. Only reliable vehicle I've had and its got 276K on a stock non-rebuilt engine and trans. I've been neglecting the poor thing, starting to look like a junkyard in my backyard.
"Rolling coal" is the byproduct of a improperly tuned diesel, and its destroying the diesel performance industry by the second. I have a 600HP 6.4 W/ Billet BW S366 non vgt single turbo and a few other things, you won't see one bit of black smoke coming out of the exhaust you know why? its properly tuned.. I don't mind if you are racing on a drag strip and or truck pull and have a huge competition setup which sometimes is next to impossible to keep it from smoking (or smoke down) no matter what you do. This is what I don't like, people going around on public streets and smoking out pedestrians and cars etc for no reason but to "have fun and joke around and be cool", this is whats causing the US EPA to tighten down diesel emissions restrictions even more causing diesel performance companies to loose business or even shut down. I love diesel performance and that soon can change if the EPA gets their ways, we might all have to switch to ecoboost's.
I agree with most everything you said. Also. that's an impressive setup. I feel my truck is very properly tuned, although I need more air. I can drive my truck with out a bit of smoke as well, but I still have to be conservative from the line. Until that turbo lights, she has a hard time moving without smoke. Granted I run a full tune daily driving, mainly because I get a 4 MPG increase running on a full fuel level. I have spent A LOT of time trying to fine tune for no smoke, but like you said, it can be next to impossible. I'd like to hear how you got the Powerstroke running so clean.
even an 50 year old car will be less polluting then a Prius think about it a 50 year old car will spend most of the year in a shed while a prius would be driven every day hence using more resources.
I find it surprising that no one has mentioned the possibility that this is an outgrowth of the (I'd say quite justifiable, even if it manifests as being a jerk) anger and resentment people feel toward the climate panic lobby.
